Suggestions & Requests / Blockland mod market system?
« on: March 03, 2013, 08:29:02 PM »
I'm sure this has been suggested before, but why not create an enviornment to allow us to buy/sell mods to the game (Obviously make it so we couldn't just share the mod files...)? I know that I would be willing to shell out some cash for a great mod, and it would surely spawn more great mods that we can only dream about right now. Badspot could even make more cash, by charging some percent for each mod sold. I think that if any mod right now deserving of making cash, it would be RTB.

On a side note, can we charge people to join our servers? If so, more people should create awsome servers so that I can give them my cash to pay to play :D.

Just to put this in a general plan.

1. Addons that were sold would not be pirated, becuase the mods would be using a key system like Blocklands
2. Remember that only Addons that are high quaility will be sold, because no one would pay for the lower quality ones.
3. Just because you see that people right now are creating free addons, doesn't mean that there isn't potential for amazing thigns to be made.
4. At most, people who sell addons probley would charge 1 - 5$.
5. Yes, its free to make software. No, its not generaly free to make quality software.
6. If all software was free, we would have less quality and less software.
7. Money is a good motivater.
8. Money means people can use developing addons for blockland as a job, meaning they can make more money, spend more time developing (Meaning more profecciency), and create cool things :D.
9. More cool stuff means our community will grow larger, and more active members will be on.

Games / Red Alert, A Path Beyond
« on: March 02, 2013, 10:21:28 PM »
Some of you may have heard of this game before, but its a free to play FPS. The game is set in the Cold War Era, and is based off of the Red Alert series. Like Red Alert, your whole object is to destroy the enemy base. In order to accomplish your goals, you can purchase tanks, Infantry upgrades, and attack Heli's, all with "Credits" that you earn each game. There arn't many that play it (at most maybe 15 - 18 will be on the server at one time), but the game is really fun and has something most FPS games have today, a sense of fulfillment when the enemy is crushed.

Do note, the best time to play is probably on Friday nights and around 5:00 P.M. California's time zone (Pacific maybe...?) on week days.

So lets pretend like investors sunk money into Blockland, to devolop Blockland 2. Now Eric has a team of developers able to work on Blockland, and his own office.

What features, updates, and all around awsomeness would you enjoy?

Please keep all ideas realistic =]

Modification Help / Messing with chat
« on: November 03, 2012, 12:18:38 AM »

If I set %client to my self, and %target to any other client, and set %msg to any text, I can see the message.
If I set %client to any other client besides my self, and %target to any other client besides my self, and set %msg to any text, %client can not view the message. Any idea why? Once again, any help would be appreciated.

Code: [Select]

function ChatTest(%client, %target, %msg)
{
if(clientgroup.ismember(%client))
{
if(clientgroup.ismember(%target))
{
%all = '';
%pre = %target.prefix;
%suf = %target.suffix;
%name = %target.name;
%color = "<color:FFFFFF>";

commandtoclient(%client, 'chatmessage', %target, '', '', %all, %pre, %name, %suf, %msg, %color, %team.name);
commandtoclient(%target, 'chatmessage', %target, '', '', %all, %pre, %name, %suf, %msg, %color, %team.name);

}
}
}

This topic is meant for debating issues. Practicing debate improves our skills in both the topic we debate, and or abilities to think quickly. In my opinion, debating should be encouraged and practiced among us  more often. Debating, however, needs to be respectfull. Calling some one an idiot for their views doesn't help promote your views, and it makes you seem like a jerk. Poor word choices, such as poor English skills, swearing, childish words (plz), etc. wont help your point ether. Great politicians (even though I may not agree with all/some of them) , such as Barrack Obama, Bill Clintion, George W. Bush, and Ronald Reagan, can and could debate with out using poor word choices. They use words that made them sound inteligent, even if you consider them to be below the average IQ level.

Avoid generalization and labeling! For example, although its true that a large part of the African American community is Democratic, not all blacks are Democratic. Another example is that just because some one is a Republican, doesn't mean they don't believe in Global Warming. The list of examples could go on and on. Try to debate your personal beliefs, and not those of the political party you associate with.

Statistics are your friend! If you believe strongly about an issue, use statistics to help support them. Did you know that 80% of all statistics are made up? Use reliable websites, and post their links, so that your statistic wont be among the 80% false ones. Whats more convincing, saying that 1 out of every 156 soldiers died in the Vietnam war, or saying "There was a large ratio of soldiers who died in the Vietnam war". I'll take the statistic any day!

Try to follow the guidelines that I have posted to avoid causing the topic to become out of hand. The topic is meant for debating, not seeing who can insult and harm each other the most, which is counter productive to all of us!

Not sure how to get started with debating?

If you support a topic, question why you support it. Why do you beleive that America is the way it is? Why do you think that I'm a really cool guy? If you don't question your believes before you post something, you may regret it.

Ask older friends, parents, siblings, etc. for their views on the topic. When ever I'm debating some one online, and I don't want to sound like a moron, I'll ask my parents for tips. Our parents often have more brains then we do! Don't hesitate to ask!

Look to history as a guideline, if your ever stuck. For example, some say that communism doesn't work because it failed in countries like the USSR, while others might say that they were just failed attempts due to poor leadership.

If your not entirely sure why you support a topic, just throw out your beliefs and see what happens! That's what I would do, at least! (Maybe that's why I wouldn't make a good politician =p)

What is it?

Example:
Lets say I bought two Bl_ID's. My forum profile would have an option (or some where else) that would say: "Show other blockland IDS". It would show the BL_ID for the username Gartanium, and the username for my other BL_ID.

Advantages: Banning people on your server. No secret alts. No more "Hi I'm new to blockland forums (but really an alt)".

Disadvantages: Would people really buy more CD Keys if they were linked to other acounts?

Implossible: Is it really realistic?

My View: I think it would be a good idea. (Thats why I posted it.) Obviously BadSpot would make less money though (Which isn't a good thing for him.)

Modification Help / Chat Channels
« on: August 15, 2012, 12:44:03 PM »
I'm making a chat channel script, and I was wondering if how I set it up is a good way.

I created a script object called chatchannelmod.
I set chatchannelmod.chatchannellis t = new simgroup(chatchannels){}; with nothing special.
I then created a function for creating new script objects of the class chatchannel and added them to the simgroup chatchannelmod.chatchannellis t.
Each channel has an array of scriptobjects, called users, which hold values of the users ID and users Name, and a bool like variable to see if the player should send messages to the channel(if they can't send messages to the channel, they can still receive them if they are a member of the channel).

I created functions to remove players from the array, add players, get the count of the array, etc.
If a user is removed from the array, here is an example of what happens: Array Length: 5. Element 3 is needed to be removed. If element 5 is not null, set element 3 equal to element 5. Set element 5 to null.

When ever a message is sent, its sent to each chat channel. If a client is a member of the channel, it sends them the message.

Sorry if I'm not very clear on what I'm doing. If anyone wants to look at the code, I'll post it here.
Some of my problems are:

1. that chatchannelmod.delete(); doesn't delete the script object chatchannelmod, but deletes all the channels in the sim group chatchannellist.
2. is there a way to delete a variable attached to a script object... like my user array off of a channel sooo... channel.channeluser[%i].delete(); so that the variable is wiped completly.
3. I feel like I made this to complicated lol.

General Discussion / Sim City [server]
« on: June 20, 2012, 04:46:49 PM »
I am starting a server that I will keep up regularly called Sim City. It will be running a few scripts, but I want most of the game to be role play (not as in pretend your some character). The city will have some neat ideas to it, such as a city council that will vote on who gets building permits/ laws for the city/ etc. The city will start out with a simple plastic mining system. You will need plastic to build, eat, and make items. I want the game to have an economy, so I will try and make the game need taxes, the player need items that they themselves can't make but other players can, etc.

For me, I want this to be a learning process in scripting. I can do simple stuff, but I understand the concepts. I also want to enjoy my summer, and create a great server for others to enjoy.

Features of the server that will be implemented as time goes on, and if the server gains popularity.
1. A government system where players can elect leaders, create a government, or force others to be subject to them
2. A building system where players need a permit to build, if its written in the law.
3. A simple way to enforce the laws. (need ideas, I don't want it to be like city RP)
4. A simple economy system
5. A resource system, where plastic is needed for everything (food, building, creating items, currency)
6. No vehicles
7. No magical jobs that give magical money
8. An education/learning system.
               Early on:
              -If a player mines 10 plastic, they will gain experience and mine it just a little bit faster
              -If a player builds things, he gets experience and needs less plastic and energy to make things
              Later:
              -Government creates a school
                         a. School teaches players how to make doors/ use simple events/ dig/ etc.
9. A food system where food is required to build
10. A way for players to sell their builds ( Might be a little to complex for me to script at the moment)

Right now I'm setting up the map. I have thrown together a few scripts for the game to use so far, but I haven't made to much progress. I want to get a good player base for the city council, and I want to set up the map for the city. Feel free to come by and help =).

This is what I have so far. I haven't done to much yet besides creating the empty city council building, and a bus stop.

Current government: Dictatorship
Leader: Gartanium
(First government, overturned when 12 active citizens are on and start a vote)

Laws of Sim City so far:
1. Citizenship is required to build
2. A permit is also required to build

Features:
1. Plastic required to build.

Modification Help / Economy RP
« on: May 16, 2012, 07:20:18 PM »
I'm currently making a simple economy game. I'm posting this topic to get some ideas for my mining system. I want players to have to mine bricks, like in the trench mod, in order to build. I want my mining system to be practical with an economy. So how should I do this? Should I make it so its like RedGuys mining game? Should ore spawn randomly around in slate and players mine it? Any ideas?

Games / Red alert, A path beyond
« on: May 01, 2012, 02:28:31 PM »
If you have ever heard of red alert, renegade, or any c&c game, this game is right for you. Its a first person shooter based off of Red Alert. The best part is that its free, its a low level game, and its awsome. It only took me about half an hour to download.
The games old so there is not that many players but its still pretty neat. Like Red Alert, each team has a base. Players can build tanks, purchase infantry equipment, and nuke each other just like in renegade. I don't think we can post links here but just google "Red Alert, a Path Beyond".
