I made a topic about this earlier, and I literally don't know what to do anymore. It has ruined my gaming life completely. #FirstWorldProblems

So far I have:

Turned off Enhance pointer precision
Turned on Enhance pointer precision
Set maximum pre-rendered frames in the Nvidia control panel to 1 (application specific to the game)
Put the sensitivity to 6/11
Tried Cyborg's own registry fix (multiple times, I read the instructions very carefully)
Tried CPL's fix (same as above)
Tried Cheese's fix (even though it's not even made for Windows 7)
Tried MarkC fix (multiple times, I read the instructions very carefully)
Tried installing the official driver
Tried installing the official software
...and virtually all the different combinations of above methods. Infact I've probably missed a few that I can't remember.

Mouse acceleration does not persist on the desktop, and interestingly neither does it in Blockland. But in all other games (Rome total war I, DEFCON, OpenSpades, Ace of spades classic, Gmod, CS 1.6, etc.) there is a constant, horrible acceleration which feels like moving a table spoon through a tub of honey.

I mean it's really dense. I have literally no idea where it can be coming from, but it obviously isn't due to the game since they all act this way (again, apart from Blockland.) I don't understand how it can be due to the mouse, since the mouse acceleration is not active in the desktop but is in games.

Games that feature a Raw input option slightly reduce the problem but is still unplayable. CS 1.6 doesn't work for stuff either, even with all the startup flags that should make it take raw input and sort out any acceleration-related shenanigans.

And the great thing is, I had none of these problems in Windows XP. So much for upgrading.

Any suggestions that aren't what I've already mentioned would be highly appreciated as I'm beginning to scratch the bottom of the barrel googling for new solutions.

Specs:
Rat 7 mouse
Windows 7 64 bit
A semi-decent computer

EDIT: Could it be because I'm launching 32 bit games and using the 64 bit fix and drivers?

Off Topic / HDD power saving dormant function bullstuff
« on: June 25, 2014, 02:21:51 PM »
I'm running win7 and my 2TB hdd after ~20 mins keeps on completely turning off and disappearing off the face of the machine until I reboot. Seriously, what the forget. Im certain its due to some power saving bullstuff that wont forget off, and if anyone knows, I'd really appreciate if they told me how to disable it forever and turn my HDD on from being dormant.

Games / Mouse acceleration
« on: June 12, 2014, 04:28:08 PM »
Its everywhere in virtually all my games, even though its been disabled in all the places from which it could be coming. I've tried:
- So-called "CPL Mouse fix", apparently changes a registry key to 'completely' disable M. acceleration (could be a virus for all I know but is quite popular amongst gaming forums)
- disabling it from the windows mouse options
- disabling in all games which have the option

I'm using a RAT 7, any help appreciated. Mouse acceleration persists with or without the mouse drivers.

Basically, stuff like CS 1.6 are fine, but others (Rome total war I and OpenSpades to mention a few) are not. The mouse acceleration kicks in only during games, not when I'm on the desktop.

Any help appreciated

Forum Games / The adventures of Tom
« on: February 09, 2014, 07:00:06 PM »
I really wanted to have a go at a no-bullstuff super simplistic adventure type of thing

You can pretty much get him to do anything provided that the drawing will be within forum rules and my artistic skills.
First come first serve, regarding what the character will do.

Here is Tom.

There is a carpenters' square in front of him, which is laying on a wooden table. The table seems to be carefully balanced on two legs. You wonder how the carpenters' square hasn't slid off of the table.

Off Topic / Annoying partition names in Ubuntu
« on: January 03, 2014, 08:22:00 PM »
basically I created an ext4 partition and decided to mount it.

That mount-name (for lack of a better word) is pretty ridiculous and I was wondering whether it be possible to change it and how.

Another image:

I am in the process of building the linux kernel from source files only, just for an interesting challenge if anyone is wondering what all this is about.

Suggestions & Requests / Counter Strike bomb gamemode
« on: December 30, 2013, 06:46:56 AM »
Yes, this isn't very original but I think it'll be pretty fun with all the different maps that the community has already built.

Stuff like the airport, or perhaps someone builds a remake of Dust_2. Plus we don't have to use the same guns, although they would probably have to be balanced.

For anyone who doesn't know the bomb gamemode:

a team of terrorists must plant a bomb in one of two specified locations. Another team of counter-Terrorists is sent out to 'counter' them. If the bomb explodes then the terrorists win, even if they are all already dead.
If the terrorists die before they plant the bomb then CT's win.
If the CT's defuse the bomb then the CT's win.
Defuse kits can be used to defuse the bomb in 5 seconds rather than in 10.

Money is issued out to each team at the start of a round, the amount depending on their current standing in the game (i.e. if you lost last round then you get less than the team that won), and the money is spent on different weapons and equipment like HE grenades and said defuse kits.
Each person in the team has their own individual pool of money.

Money is earned on kills depending on the weapons used.

If you're unsure about something, then just go wiki it.
But seriously it'd be pretty cool to see this get done.

Off Topic / Dead CMOS battery and invalid security certificates
« on: November 07, 2013, 02:43:49 PM »
Basically my CMOS battery is dead and every time i try to load up a page a security error comes up on Firefox.

I can't get hold of a new battery at the moment, so is there any way to have Mozilla not shout at me and make it stop pointing out that it isn't 2004 before I try to load up any webpage?

I tried the whole Browser.ssl = 0 thing in about:config and it didn't work.

Off Topic / Problems with R.A.T. 7 mouse
« on: October 31, 2013, 04:29:32 AM »
So I leveled up today to 15, and got a Raspberry Pi and a R.A.T. 7.

The mouse works perfectly in games, and really is a precision piece of tech (compared to my £10 wireless combo from Novatach), However when I move my mouse on the desktop it's really disappointing and crappy.

Basically, when I move the mouse to the left then the cursor moves to the left. However, moving it to the right makes it go right AND upwards, in a diagonal line, even though I'm carefully watching my hand movement and it's perfectly parallel to the edge of my desk! Repeating this movement yields the same results. Pretty much same on the vertical axis.

I'm using Windows XP 32 bit, and I know I ought to upgrade by now, but the problem seems to have something to do with how the OS manages the mouse, because as I said before it works perfectly on games, but as soon as I tab out into the desktop or use the default windows mouse it turns into an unusable stuffstorm.

Yes, I have all the latest drivers and also the software.

Any help would be appreciated.

Off Topic / Debian doesn't recognize partition as boot disk
« on: October 18, 2013, 01:54:01 PM »
basically I'm trying to install Debian on a really loving annoying machine; an IBM x20 model 2662.

I've tried everything to get it to load from removable media, and so has my dad (and he doesn't shovel coal for a living either), and nothing works. Basically what he did many years ago when he first acquired the laptop was stick Ubuntu 10.04 onto it, but that was really pushing it with the laptop's max RAM of ~300 MB. I decided to try and put Debian on it using the same method that he did; make a 700MB partition on the HDD and "burn" the ISO of the OS there.

After using Unetbootin to stick a copy of the latest stable version of debian onto the partition, the installer loads and all, however after I try to load installer components from 'CD', it keeps looking for a real, physical CD, which the IBM does not have (and yes I have tried hooking up like 3 different DVD drives to it via USB with the installer disk in them and to no avail). I also tried specifying which 'CD drive' to mount, and after trying all the variations of /dev/sd**, I'm about to give up.

I know there are competent Linux experts here, So I'll just keep posting my questions on this forum.

TL;DR installing Debian from HDD partition don't work

Off Topic / Ubuntu dual boot - grub menu won't show
« on: October 09, 2013, 06:28:55 PM »
Basically today I installed Ubuntu 12.04 alongside windows now that I have a 2TB HDD. However, upon installing and restarting the grub menu did not show. What did though, was checkdisk. After the disk was checked and nothing broken was found, it proceeded the booting of windows. I tried several times, and the grub menu still did not show. I don't know if this is relevant, but when I rebooted the machine after installation I had a modified boot.ini file to have multiple windows boot options, one of them having a /3G flag. So I can't boot into ubuntu. Help!

Off Topic / Windows xp to windows 7 64
« on: October 06, 2013, 01:35:03 PM »
I know I literally made a topic a second ago but anyway..

I'm still stuck on windows XP, and its really dragging me down since my new computer.

I have 8 gigs of ram, 3 cores, and a pretty good GPU for the price. I want to play games like Digital Combat Simulator, however the minimum requirements are 6 gigs, meaning that DCS only sees 2.92 gigs and does not load the 3d world when I click on something like "instant flight" because of lack of RAM. Not to mention that all the other games suffer to due to the operating system handling the hardware inefficiently.

Can I upgrade for free to windows 7 64 (at least home basic), or is there a price to pay?

Also, is it possible to buy auth keys for windows 7 ultimate, because ideally that is what I need right now if the above can't be done.

Off Topic / CSS and CS:GO mouse sensitivity are different
« on: September 26, 2013, 05:23:07 PM »
When I practice, I usually join a DM server. However, they all have the same damn problem; people spawn in random locations, meaning that pretty much all of my deaths are caused by spawning right infront of someones crosshair. Are there any TDM gamemodes where the terrorists spawn in the terrorist side, and the CT's spawn in their starting location?

I've been playing lots of counter-strike source, and want to have the same mouse sensitivity in GO. However when i set it to my value of 1.2, it just doesn't feel the same. Pretty sure it's slightly higher. Is there a calculator anywhere which converts the CSS sensitivity to CS:GO sensitivity? Or is it just my mouse?
