Off Topic / I ship out to Navy basic training in 3 weeks. Any tips/tricks?

I'm shipping out on August 2nd to the training facility at Great Lakes, IL. I'm gonna be learnin' how to be a sailor and all, and I'm eventually going to be working as a nuclear machinist's mate (after 6 months of Nucler Power School and 6 months of Nuclear Prototype School).

Any guidance from those that have completed military training of some form or another? Or from those that know people that have? I'm generally rather confident in my skills and I'm not worrying all that much, but some extra tips/etc could potentially go a long way.

Off Topic / Chromebook (?)

Do any of you use a chromebook? I ask because I'm looking at Samsung's dedicated chromebook.

I wanted to know whether I'd be able to:
a) play FLAC files
b) output digital/bipass the internal DAC through a USB port
c) expand the size of the hard drive or use an external disk

Anyone have any ideas or alternatives within a very very cheap price range? This is meant to be a bare-bones source component for music, but it's gotta be portable.

Off Topic / Headphones (Crossfade LP's?)

So I'm looking for a new pair of headphones as my most recent pair (Razer Electras) has fallen to the land of dead drivers.

Just looking for a casual listening/gaming pair, I'm not looking for anything for "true audiophiles"

My price range is roughly between 100-130 dollars, and I'm leaning towards V-Moda's crossfade LP's. The reviews I've heard are great, aside from a design flaw that has been fixed, plus the need for some burn-in (which is pretty easy to do).



Your guys' recommendations would be great, and I'm completely willing to take input from the community here (within reason).

BACKSTORY: In the year 2159, an unknown alien race arrived on earth. They came in a small military fleet, believed to be the brunt of their military power. Humanity quickly quashed the threat, though the influx of new technology began to destabilize many governments. Thus, when the aliens returned in a much more powerful fleet, humanity was unprepared.

The entirety of the globe was annihilated, leaving only a few stragglers.

Though, one of the aliens from the first fleet (that had been a human test subject) awoke, in the middle of the now-collapsed Washington DC. This is where our story begins.

Off Topic / Just bought a pair of Razer Electras

So, Razer, the magnificent PC gaming hardware company recently released the Electras, and my Sennheiser HD 201's just broke. These are just music headphones but they come with two cables, one has a mic, one doesn't.

Just ordered them from Amazon, they'll be here in roughly a week.
