The ammo shop system!

Each class of gun has a assigned type of ammo. making for 10 different classes of ammo.

But how do i pay for that crap you ask?
Well simple! You post me cash in the mail!
Nah, just messing with ya :P

Every time a player is killed, a random prize will be selected. This could be either in the form of cash, or as ammo. This is the split proportionally between anyone who does damage to them.
The player is then able to make use of this ammo to get more ammo, or sell the ammo on the marketplace for cash.
For convenience it is possible to auto sell ammo drops, of which you are not using in your current load out.
There is also a free gun if you run out of cash, although using the pistols it is very easy to accumulate funding.
You are also able to tryout guns with 99,999 units of ammo in the testing ground for free

The marketplace's value for each ammo will reflect the levels of demand and supply for the type of ammo. This allows players to treat it like a 'stock market' and trade within it to turn a profit.
It also means that you might actually have to change your play style to accommodate for prices of ammo rising for a particular type.
This allows for a more balanced game, as the stronger guns in the game require more tactical use / A luxury as they have a lower drop rate, hence demand is more likely to outstrip supply pushing prices up

What?
The server originated a few years back, in an attempt to utilise a terrain generator in a 'hunger games' style where objects would be spawned across the map.
However, the terrain generator maps lacked enjoyment when played compared to a player created map. Because of this the game was scrapped.
However, once a player made map was made available to me I used the existing foundations and combined it with the fundamentals of the established randomiser game modes to create a little twist to previous servers.

Features:
  • Over 900 Player and Item  possible spawn locations
  • Items Scatted Across the map for players to use
  • Jeeps
  • Achievements and unlockable Titles (Currently adding to this. Suggestions encouraged)
  • Player Trackers - A delayed tracker of the user will appear in the sky. This allows use of stealth, whilst avoiding stagnation.
  • Dedicated EU Server
  • Map Rotation

Regarding Achievements & Titles, if you have any you would like to see in-game. I will happily implement any good ones.

I am also entertaining the idea of moderator applications, so if you are interested in been a server moderator, you can post in this thread with the following format:

So I've been messing around teaching myself other programming languages and ended up making a id database in the progress.
Seeing as there isn't (as far as ime aware) another public available one i thought I would put this up for you guys.

Website itself isn't much to behold, but ime no expert with css/etc so meh.

As of writing, it has 9455 id's. But if you want to help out collect data there is a link to a mod at the bottom of the website.

Please make me aware of any issues/possible improvements so i can hopefully fix them :)







Edit regarding data- some of the especially for older users is from, previous servers I have hosted and some from rtb's list, and as such may be dated (sorry).  So if anyone loads the mod up on there server it is helpful
I may implement it listing the result as 'unreliable' if the data is over a month old.

There is also a tool to use this in game, so if I work out gui's I could make a in game lookup if wanted?

Regarding name history I will go about trying to implement it tonight.

Server is running on linux via wine (May be the cause, but was working before the latest revision)
Have tried reloading the missions/ forcing auth to no avail

So, me any Meggey decided to test quite how many bricks we could get to.
Don't have an in game screenshot as it crashed at around 1.4 mill. But i have the next best thing. (it underlined because my iPad thought it was a phone number :S)

Weapon Shop System!

So, tired of having to go round every brick and setting up a VCE system?
Or simply don't know how to make a shop like you see in other server?

Well help is at hand!

now all you need to set up your weapon system is one command, just look at the brick and type /SetWeaponPrice X

Job done, the rest is done for you!


Features:
  • One command setup
  • Puts those useless minigame points to good use!
  • Snazzy text over the weapon to let you know how much it costs
  • Snazzy prompts for purchaseing
  • RTB prefs to enable/disable
  • Works when saved/loaded
  • No need to put silly covers over the weapons! The system has the ability to block users from simply walking over the item and picking it up (If enabled)
  • weapons ownership, and prices are saved so you don't need to worry about loosing data when you reload the server or if it crashes
  • interchangeable modes; Save ownership, one time
  • Now disabile multiple pickups of one item in the same loadout




List o' Commands:

/SetWeaponPrice [Amount] - Sets the price of the weapon you are looking at and sets up the event system needed - SA ONLY
/MakeWeaponShopBrick - Just sets up the events required for the brick
/RemoveWeaponShopItem - Removes the weapon from the system
/GetPrice checks the price of the item if you are blind and somehow can't read :D


/UpdateAllBrickPrices -If something goes wrong and weapon prices don't appear above items type this and it will re-apply it to all the items SA ONLY
/EnableWeaponShop - Enables the entire system if you don't want to use RTB prefs - updates brick prices - SA ONLY
/DisableWeaponShop - Disables the entire system if you don't want to use RTB prefs - updates brick prices - SA ONLY
/EnableWeaponPickup - Allows people to walk over items and pick them up even if they are shop items, off by default. Also a RTB Pref - SA ONLY
/DisableWeaponPickup - Disabled the ability to walk over items and pick them up even if are shop items, off by default. Also a RTB Pref - SA ONLY
/ToggleWeaponShopMultiplePickup - Toggles if players can pick up more than one of the same item - SA ONLY
/ToggleWeaponShopSystemMode - Changes the saving method between saving ownership, and one time buying

During my bordem of hitting the random article button on wikipedia, i stumbled across this strange project of microsoft



"The iLoo (short for internet loo) was a cancelled Microsoft project to develop a Wi-Fi Internet-enabled portable toilet. The iLoo, which was to debut at British summer festivals, was described as being a portable toilet with wireless broadband Internet, an adjustable plasma screen, a membrane wireless keyboard, a six-channel speaker system, and toilet paper embossed with popular web site addressess. The iLoo was also to have an extra screen and keyboard on the outside, and was to be guarded. It was intended as the next in a series of successful initiatives by MSN UK which sought to introduce the internet in unusual locations, including MSN Street, MSN Park Bench and MSN Deckchair.

So, as a large amount of builds start; i was bored.. and started building massive speakers, and randomly got the inspiration to make little city scapes out of them, that was dull so i decided to build some massive one :P That and i wanted to see how loud i could get this to play http://youtu.be/t3T79LM0KTM :P

Not a huge serious build but thought it was quite nice ;D and thought i'de share it, rate if you want.

Now that v20 is out you may be wondering a few things about it:

Blockland now runs off a launcher application, this allows bad spot to release small updates and patched without any hassle.

"How do i keep my key binds/prefs"

Just copy over your 'Config' folder to the new block land folder, which my default is stored in the Documents folder. this will copy over all your saved avatars and key binds, options etc.



"But i don't want it in documents, hoa2move?"

If you want to run block land off a memory stick, or just hate the documents folder its quite simple to move

On windows, open the shortcut prefernced and add to the target -profilePath "Location" for example C:\Program Files\BlocklandLauncher.exe -profilePath "D:\games\Blockland"

On a mac, go to terminal and type/copy in  /Applications/BlocklandLauncher.app/Contents/MacOS/BlocklandLauncher -profilePath "Location"

For example:  /Applications/BlocklandLauncher.app/Contents/MacOS/BlocklandLauncher -profilePath "/Foobar/Blockland"



"I moved location now ime getting errors"

Some people have reported that after moving folder block land still goes to the document folder to write the console.log and the cache.db, this will most likely be patched soon.



"How can i run a dedicated server"

Like in changing the folder location on windows, append to the target -dedicated and it will launch as a dedicated.
The default map can be set via -map MAPNAME

For example: C:\Program Files\BlocklandLauncher.exe -dedicated -map skylands

On mac, you will need to open terminal and put in "/Applications/BlocklandLauncher.app/Contents/MacOS/BlocklandLauncher -dedicated" without the quotes, again the default map can be set via  -map MAPNAME

When exiting the server box, a bug can occur to still leave a copy of block land running, to halt it go to the apple logo in the top left of the screen, than click "Force Quit" and select block land, this will make sure the server has ended.



"I keep getting a Squlite error / Blockland won't work"

Ok, there can be many factor causing this; as with any updates in games.

The most common cause is that your computer won't let block land read its own files, make sure that the folder block land is contained in has "Read/Write" permissions. to change this go to the folders properties and On windows: Disable read only (Don't have huge amount of info for windows as i don't use it )
On mac: at the bottom under "Sharing and permissions" make sure you have read/write permissions, if problem still continues try enabled read/write for all users.

Or additionally you can try installing the new revision of the launcher http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=172945.0

It could be down to a add-on you have installed, try loading block land on a fresh install.

If your still having issues take 2 steps,
A. check the help section for posts regarding you issue, chances are another user has a similar issue and somebody has posted a solution.

Once you are sure somebody else hasn't posted the issue, make a topic. (Although be sure as people hate repeated topics saying the same thing over and over)



"I can't use custom Textures / UI"

At the moment the new block land doesn't support these, as it replaces the files every time you load. although bad spot has said a update to support these may be out soon.



"I can't find where to install my add ons!"

By default they are stored in
Windows: My documents
Mac: Documents

Just install them in the usual fashion, if you don't know how check out THIS post

What is it with people who just randomly keep spamming irc chat messages, i mean what does anybody gain from copy pasting 90 lines of text... (i didn't put them all into the image as it'd take up the whole page with one image :S)

So i got back from school and find this guy has randomly spammed me 90 lines of text, and when i try to ask why he spams again than decides ignoring me solves the issue... i mean what is with some people nowadays

Off Topic / After some new headphones, ideas?

So, as my good old skull candies are starting to fall apart ime looking to buy and upgrade to  some new headphones in the near future, although ime not quite sure what to get.

After something with: Good bass, great sound quality, durable, in ear (can't stand those huge headsets).

mainly listen to Drum & Bass and Classical (Great combo i know :D)

probably more inclined to get something at the higher end as i love a bit of good audio.

was considering some Beat Tour's as i heard they were pretty good. Any suggestions / alternatives?
