Games / S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Survarium: What are your Thoughts?
« on: May 17, 2012, 07:14:11 PM »

Some of you may know about that open-world post-apoc first person shooter action/horror/RPG. No, not Fallout. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a game similar to Fallout, although it takes place in Chernobyl in the Ukraine, simply called "the Zone" because of a fictional second explosion that caused mutation in plants and animals. It is an ideal setting as the developer, GSC Game World, is Ukrainian-based. There are three games in the series: Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky (a prequel, and considered the worst game of the series), and, most recently, Call of Pripyat. The thing about the Zone is that it is a living world. Things happen independently of player actions. If you get called for a mission to take down a tower of hostiles, you might wait for a bit until a swarm of mutants come and do your job for you. If you have to defend a tower, the attack will start no matter if you are there or not. If you make it during the attack you might have to fight your way to your allies and help the defense, or you might make it there extremely quickly and scout the area for strategic locations to use to your advantage. There were also roaming bandits and military. You can often hear screams and gunshots in the distance. If you make it there later you might find a pile of dead bodies with their ammo taken, the attackers having left.

Unfortunately, it has been confirmed that GSC was closed and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 canceled.

Fortunately, the GSC team made Vostok Studios and is now working on a new game called Survarium.

This game is a bit different from S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. First, it is a free to play  MMO. There was a lot of groaning about this: even though S.T.A.L.K.E.R. had multiplayer the isolation provided a great atmosphere and a f2p MMO implies a bunch of starfishs running around looking for quests and going frequently out of character, ruining the immersion. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. also had quests, but they were more of an excuse to get out and explore and get paid while doing it, for example finding an artifact then selling it to Barkeep or Beard, as much else consisted of looting broken down buildings for food and supplies. If it's anything like DayZ, though, it might work. There is also another interesting feature. You can apparently explore the entire world. This is in a different S.T.A.L.K.E.R. situation. This time nature has gotten its revenge on humanity... expect more vines and mutated wildlife as you try to survive. All in all, it's an interesting concept. As for technology, they have made a new engine (perhaps an updated X-Ray Engine) called the Vostok Engine. Say what you think about it below.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution was a great game. But it shouldn't have been a Deus Ex game. Because the entire storyline makes NO SENSE ever since HR was released.

To clear some things up: HR is the prequel to the first game. But it's not immediately before like some people think oddly enough. HR is set in 2027. Deus Ex is set in 2052, a good 25 years later. Invisible War is set in 2072, 50 years after HR and 20 years after Deus Ex.

First thing: the flying-laser-ultra-jet-with-plasma-trails. It's apparently called a VTOL.

Nice and futuristic, huh? That's how Sarif Industries top security gets around.

But in Deus Ex, as part of an elite military branch called UNATCO, soldiers get around in this thing:

But you are a special agent, so you get this one:

So bioengineering security guards get more high-tech vehicles than a well-funded government organization that fights terrorists 25 years after the VTOL was used.

It seems technology devolved. But 50 years after the VTOL was created? Oh they must use something different by then. Nope:

WHAT HAPPENED. Well, besides economic collapse and all that, but still, they used helicopters up to 50 years after a near-spaceship was created for PERSONAL USE.

Next up: Bob Page, the Vampire.

25 years earlier:

He aged about three years in 25. And to fully support the vampire theory, he has red eyes, a secret lair, lives underground, and makes his henchmen dress in black.

Ending scene.

Imagine this.

After the ending fight.

You are shown into a room.

It has four buttons.

THE ENDING YOU GET IS BASED ON THE BUTTON YOU PRESSED. Not your actions in the game. But whatever button you felt like pressing. Plus the endings had the same basics as in Deus Ex.

SPOILERS
       HR Ending                                Deus Ex Ending
Side with Illuminati = Join Illuminati in a Shadow Government
Side with Darrow =  Technological Dark Age
Kill Self (Screw It) =  Merge with Helios to Give People the Choice

Then they added the Sarif ending which was basically a reskinned Helios ending.

End conspiracy web for Deus Ex with HR plotline added: Hugh Darrow is the internet, the world is too close to the sun, and JC Denton is the world's biggest voting booth.

Games / Does anyone know what this game is?
« on: April 10, 2012, 06:47:47 PM »
I remembered playing a game at a friend's house an extremely long time ago (we're talking years here) and it was very fun. I thought I'd check it out some time but I can't remember what it was called. I do remember that it was a pixellated top-down zombie game where you control a horde and turn other people into zombies. I don't know anything other than this and the design in one of the levels. You started with a few zombies in some jail cells (I think the police locked them in) and you have to get out with a variety of different ways. The only ones I remember are that you could zombify a guard standing outside of a cell or you could detonate one of the zombies which opens all the cells. Also there were angry people with clubs standing outside.

Games / Garry's Mod 13 Beta: Expect Keys Soon
« on: March 26, 2012, 01:24:05 AM »
Garry posted on his Twitter yesterday that there would be no keys this weekend but to expect them next weekend, so keep your eyes open. Of course this is not certain, he may run into issues updating it or he may decide to piss off the community. Last update was March 16th and two days later they were out, so you have get them quickly. I just realized while writing this that I'll be away in Seattle next weekend. Oh well, next time I guess. Anyway, probably keys on the account site next weekend, that's all the details he has released.

Off Topic / One more day.
« on: November 10, 2011, 08:01:21 PM »
Don't make negative posts unless you know what this is taken from.

One more day to the eleventh
We will slice it in the bud.
I will join these little fanboys,
They will wet themselves with CoD.

One day more!

Watch 'em run amuck
Catch 'em as they fall.
Always change your luck when there's a free-for-all.
Here a little glitch
There a little bug.
Most of them are gamers so they won't miss much!

One day to a new beginning
Raise the flag of Skyrim high.
Every man is Dohvakiin.
Every man is Dohvakiin.
There's a new world for the winning.
There's a new world to be won.
Do you hear the people sing?

I was really bored after coming from school today.

Games / Tribes: Ascend
« on: July 24, 2011, 02:02:02 PM »

The perfect compliment for the fact that I'm having trouble with finding a digital purchase to Tribes: Vengeance.

Tribes: Ascend is the 5th game in the Tribes series. It seems to be focusing only on multi-player, but will probably have single-player training as well. Judging by the trailers, it will improve animations and graphics as well as the expected effects. The entire series has included jetpacks.  And it's FREE! It has not come out yet, but I will attempt to upload development and videos to this thread.

UPDATE: Ascend will feature ragdoll physics judging by the trailer.

Games / Tribes: Vengeance- Help Please
« on: July 23, 2011, 05:46:49 PM »
This seemed like the best place to ask this on these forums. Is there a way to buy and download Tribes: Vengeance? Everywhere I can find is either piracy or doesn't carry it anymore. I'm asking here because I can't find an answer anywhere else.

Modification Help / How do you Make an Event Projectile out of Weapons
« on: April 03, 2011, 01:37:01 AM »
I have the Mini-Nuke for the event projectile, but I just want the projectile to avoid noobs trolling the server and misusing the weapon. How do you extract just the projectile and have it be event-compatible?

Games / Scientifically Proven Game Theories [Taking Suggestions]
« on: March 20, 2011, 03:18:24 PM »
This was actually on Urban Dictionary, I'll try proving any other theories.
#1:

"The Cake is a lie: To have a Cake you need time and money. Therefore: money + time = Cake

According to smart people, time is money.

Therefore: 2time = Cake

According to other smart people, time goes on forever.

This indicating: time = infinity

Therefore: 2infinity = Cake

Because no person has achieved infinity, let alone 2infinity. The Cake is not possible.
The Cake is a lie!"

you can reduce that equation to 2t=C or 2i=C.

Sorry for image heavy.
Well, there was a topic put in add-ons that supposedly changes desktop to the default BL screenies. Not only does he say you cannot use it on mac, but there is a way to do the EXACT SAME THING on mac without downloading any software for it.
Step 1:
Go to System Preferences (the light switch with the apple logo next to it).

Step 2:
Go to desktop and screensaver.

Step 3:
Click choose file. A menu should come up.

Step 4:
Choose Blockland folder, then choose screenshots but don't open it. BL will be located in the file you have it in (e.g. desktop, applications, etc., default is desktop).

This menu should come up:

Step 5:
Enable "change picture" and set to every five seconds.

EDIT: Did I mention it updates with every new screenshot you take?
