Lee Sedol resigned, allowing Alphago victory.

For a long time it was widely regarded as impossible to create a truly competitive AI Go machine. Go, while it has essentially only 2 rules, has such great depth that it is very difficult for a non-human player (and still extremely difficult for a human player) to consistently choose moves well.
Lee Sedol is basically the best Go player there is.
The subsequent matches will be streamed on YouTube on the DeepMind channel:

The streams themselves are pretty dull for someone like myself who does not well understand the strategies of Go, but it was pretty funny to see the commentators get all worked up about it, and regardless of how silly that was, it was also completely valid. This is an unprecedented advance.

I dunno, I thought you guys might be interested.

I know I'm really stupid, but aren't the online resources notated ambiguously?
I kept on doing the later steps wrong somehow, and got really good at the first bit.

It was pretty far off, but myself and my sister and our bandmates all went there to play, and it was a blast for a while. On the way there, though, she was driving really aggressively and ended up skidding on the ice on our home road and doing a 180 before stopping. She was completely nonchalant about it.
I asked if it would be all right if I drove on the way home, and she said no. I didn't feel like staying at the place as late as she did, so I hitched a ride with my dad.
Turns out she got in a car accident pretty much as soon as she started driving back. Apparently she's fine, but the car is pretty much done for. I feel like I majorly majorly dodged a bullet here, but I feel kinda guilty because I did give her some flak. I also feel like I did everything I should have because I told my dad, and he texted her to be careful on the way back. There was major fog on the highway, and I'm almost certain that even if she made it out of the city area she would have wrecked her car on the highway.
So yeah I'm alive

Just a bit of a personal story, don't feel obligated at all to read it.

My dad, when I was little, managed a pretty successful company called Poly Roll. He made a lot of money, but he had stretched himself thin, and he felt like sometime he would just snap. He eventually gave it up and started a farm. The farm kept on taking more and more improvement before it would be sustainable; just more and more effort and more and more time. He was breaking his back over it. Eventually, he divorced my mom and kept trying, kept going. Recently, he's gotten a lot of work done and just ran into the wall of how much work a human being can do for the second time. It's getting to be too much time in the day that he has to spend and the money has basically run out. He doesn't know what he's going to do anymore, but he's selling off the animals and equipment.

I'm really broken up about this.

I know it's pathetic, but I'm going to have to hibernate for the next 11 months because I am having trouble stopping thinking about it at times.

Even the music is irrevocably stuck in my head: Song of the Lonely Mountain.

Discuss the movie, I guess.
It had the usual major and minor inaccuracies but it was absolutely perfect in a couple of places, as in down to the inch accurate to the original illustrations. The only character they really twisted was Thorin, who originally had no complaint about seeking refuge with the elves.
