Off Topic / classic forum theme restoration/site customization?

Heya, not sure if this goes here or in general/help/requests etc but i was wondering if a full classic theme restoration existed
I do have swollow's forum overhaul thing, and apparently master matthew had made something of a pretty faithful classic theme restoration later in that thread but it had an old injector/exploit in it? basically, i'm just wondering if there's a safe restoration theme out there yet for the original layout/look (https://i.imgur.com/ZY1v0JJ.png) with the original category bars, buttons, icons, etc. like what matthew had done

also i'm curious about getting into theme modding/creating themes myself (particularly stuff like changing up the color patterns of sites or its images) myself because honestly, i'm totally clueless about it all (though i do have some pretty light experience with working with HTML/basic site building stuff so im not sure if that helps any) so i'd appreciate any kind of starter tips/pointers

Help / extremely weird issue concerning event addon 'event_bricktext' (cant activate)

heya, alright, first off, i'm really not sure what would cover this glitch. i can't tell if it's a server-sided issue, an issue that has to do with my own client, or even if it may have to do with any kind of hardware/software of mine. essentially, this concerns Event_BrickText (which me and my friends have gotten from http://orbs.daprogs.com/rtb/forum.returntoblockland.com/dlm/viewFilec9cd.html?id=3811 )

now, this came to my attention pretty recently since a friend of mine (friend #1) sent me an older (maybe around a year old at this point? a little less? not sure) BL save file of a pretty decently sized build over discord. at a time when it was still being used, the save contained bricktext events which were sort of vital for information on the build (locations, names, etc), so i went ahead and downloaded the addon from where i downloaded it before (see link above). i should note that bricktext was never an issue for me and worked pretty well overall. i loaded the build up, it loaded pretty much as it usually would. (1000+ or so non-essential bricks not loading, but that was a pretty small number considering how the save in total was around ~100k bricks)

i went ahead and checked around the save while in singleplayer, clicking on bricks that i distinctly remember eventing at the time to check if anything was still there, and found nothing. i checked their event lines, no events whatsoever were transferred over from the save. i just assumed it was either a weird bug over the transfer of the save, or it was saved without events. i went ahead and made my own bricktext events just to make sure everything was working, and it was. text would show up over bricks i clicked, like normal, and i chalked up them missing to the save being saved without events.

sometime later, i decide to test if my friends can connect to me, and one (friend #2) was able to. i loaded in the save, flew around, and i decided to start working with the save again, like re-adding the bricktexts. i replaced the first one that i thought of, tried clicking it, nothing. i'm not sure what the problem was at this point and i'm still not sure, so i asked friend #2 to come over and click the brick, he did, and it showed up. i was pretty confused at this point, i started making more bricktext events, (mostly 'onactivate > self > bricktext > [text]' kind of stuff) and none of them would activate when i clicked on them, but would all activate when friend #2 clicked on them. at this point, i still didnt really mind it, so i disconnected.

skip to a while later, friend #3 decided to host, friend #2 and me went on to join and i offered to load in the save since we were a part of it and contributed to it when it was still in use. the save loaded in after a while, still with no events which i expected. i tried setting up bricktext events again, the event lines would be made just fine, but again, i couldn't click them whatsoever. i was thinking it might have been a server issue of some kind, but friend #3, who was the host, clicked the bricks with the events and it worked just fine, and it was the same with friend #2.

also, around this point i was asking friend #1 for help about it and was wondering about the save he sent me having no events, but according to him, the save is just fine and has the proper events that it did before on his end.

to keep the rest a little short, no matter what i did, i was not able to use bricktext events whatsoever. i deleted my blockland cache and the addon itself, tried installing it via BL glass, i uninstalled blockland completely (i deleted all my saves, screenshots, add ons, etc) and reinstalled it, deleted the cache on that new installation when it didnt work, reinstalled again, yet no matter what i did it just didn't work. everyone was still able to click and activate the bricktexts just fine, but not me, for some reason it just wouldn't register that i was activating the event. we even tried changing the activation process, from onactivate to onplayertouch and onprojectilehit, nothing worked for me. but whenever my friends touched or shot these bricks with bricktext events assigned to those kinds of activations, it worked fine for them and the text showed up.

so, really, i'm pretty much clueless as to what this could be. i'm beginning to think it might have something to do with my mouse, maybe? but at the same time that doesn't seem to make sense, the game itself registers my clicking, normal events like self > fakekill or client > chatmessage work just fine, as do many other of the default events, but bricktext and 'bricktextscroll' just doesn't work whatsoever for me, so if anybody has any idea or any possible solutions, i'm more than happy to hear them

the military is reporting that they have president mugabe's wife detained as well but i'm also hearing about conflicting reports that his wife may have fled to namibia so im not too sure about anything going on at this point myself

EA has announced that it’s shutting down Visceral Games, the studio best known for developing the Dead Space series of games and Battlefield Hardline. Visceral was in the middle of work on an upcoming Star Wars title, which EA says will live on in some form, with EA Worldwide Studios and EA Vancouver taking over development.

According to EA executive vice president Patrick Söderlund, Visceral’s take on the Star Wars title would have been a “story-based, linear adventure game,” which the company has decided needed to be shifted toward a “broader experience.”

if you don't know, kocayine was a youtube user that uploaded tons of old serb/balkan war songs, including the 'remove kebab' song, plus went through the effort of adding translations/subtitles to them. after years of operation youtube ended up deciding to shut down his channel completely and wipe all of his videos off the face of youtube, now people are trying to dig up as much as they can to put it back up

on the brighter side, if this is kocayine, he had everything archived with google and should be reuploading sometime soon, but for now the original channel is pretty much nonexistent at this point

in quick summary if you don't have the time/want to read the quoted sections above, 28 coptic christians (meaning of the coptic orthodox church of alexandria) were killed in an ambush during a bus ride to the st. samuel monastery, many of the casualties reportedly children. as for the act itself, the attackers made use of three vehicles and automatic weaponry to carry out the attack. i don't normally do these kinds of news topics but this one was pretty forgeted and i didn't see any other topics up about it

i'll try to make this quick but i hope someone here knows what i'm talking about

there was this gaming mouse commercial that got posted here a long while back and it features some kid sitting at a computer with the mouse playing something like call of duty, then suddenly there's all these special effects and the mouse transforms into a pistol (and i think some weird cgi armor starts forming over him but that may be false memory) and that's about all i can remember. it had those generic eXtReMe effects and was really over-the-top with them and i'm surprised i can't find anything about this commercial considering how far it went with it. then again, i may just be describing over half of the gaming mouse commercials out there, i don't know, i never watched/seen any others

Cleveland police announced a $50,000 reward has been posted by Crimestoppers Monday for information leading to the capture of the man suspected of killing a random passerby and posting the gruesome footage on Facebook Sunday.

Police have issued a nationwide search for Steve Stephens, 37, and asked residents of Pennsylvania, New York, Indiana, and Michigan to be on alert.

Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams said officers searched dozens of locations for Stephens with no success. The department is working with federal, state and other local agencies to find him.

“As far as we know right now, we don’t know where he’s at," Williams said at a Monday morning news conference. "The last location we had him at was the homicide.”

on easter sunday, a man by the name 'steve stephens' ended up snapping following some type of relationship dispute and started streaming on facebook about how he was going to begin killing random people because of some woman named 'joy lane'. he started ranting about having nothing to lose, then ended the stream. he also made another video, which is linked below, but i'm not sure about their chronological order. following his stream, he began recording again, this time in a car, got out and walked up to a random elderly black man walking down the sidewalk and started telling him to say joy lane, then said "she's why this is happening to you", shooting him in the head then returning to his car

Pennsylvania State Police said that they had received a tip-off from workers at the fast food chain shortly after 11:00 on Tuesday.

The suspect's white Ford Fusion car had been spotted in the car park of the McDonald's in the city of Erie, near a local police headquarters.

Stephens ordered a 20-piece McNuggets meal and a large order of fries, but employees held his fries while they alerted police.

Henry Sayers, the restaurant's manager, told the New York Times: "He just took his nuggets and said: 'I have to go', and he drove off."

State police pursued him for less than two miles before executing a tactic that involves ramming the rear of a vehicle to make it lose control.

The most expensive part of doing business in outer space is getting there. The private space flight company SpaceX thinks it can change all that, and Thursday's successful reuse of a rocket was a big test of its business model.

SpaceX launched a communications satellite from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida using a rocket stage that had already been to space and back. SpaceX is betting that this kind of recycling will lower its costs and revolutionize space flight.

The rocket landed vertically on a barge in the Atlantic Ocean a few minutes after the launch.

After more than two years of landing its rockets after launch, SpaceX finally sent one of its used Falcon 9s back into space. The rocket took off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, this evening, sending a communications satellite into orbit, and then landed on one of SpaceX’s drone ships floating in the Atlantic Ocean. It was round two for this particular rocket, which already launched and landed during a mission in April of last year. But the Falcon 9’s relaunch marks the first time an orbital rocket has launched to space for a second time.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk appeared on the company’s live stream shortly after the landing and spoke about the accomplishment. “It means you can fly and refly an orbital class booster, which is the most expensive part of the rocket. This is going to be, ultimately, a huge revolution in spaceflight,” he said.

This evening’s mission was a critical milestone for SpaceX, which has been working to make its rockets partially reusable since as early as 2011. Up until now, practically all orbital rockets have been expendable, so they’re basically thrown away once they launch into space. That means an entirely new rocket — which can cost tens to hundreds of millions of dollars to make — has to be built for each mission to orbit. SpaceX’s strategy has been to land its rockets after launch in an effort to fly them again and again. That way the company can partially save on manufacturing costs for each mission.

in summary, based spaceX launched a rocket into space and then landed it onto a boat in the middle of the ocean. today, they took the same rocket, launched it into space a second time with a payload, and and then landed it successfully again, bringing us even closer if not straight to reusable space flight. in turn, this could also cut the cost of flying our stuff into space greatly, which is pretty cool

i've never done one of these and probably shouldn't (especially since it seems like these types of threads come up at least once every week) but i always miss my forum birthday so this probably isn't too obnoxious

it's just a bit odd to take in, i guess? i joined when i was 10 (and it really shows in my older posts) and went through a forgetton of embarassing moments and being affiliated with some groups i'd rather not have today. i've been friends with some people who are probably now long forgotten or are still here but have long forgotten me, and i've seen a lotta stuff here change over the years, yaya the usual stuff you see in these topics

but really as repetitive as this sounds by now, it's neat to watch the people here and their personalities change up a bit each year, though i've seen some people never actually change, or just straight-up disappear for whatever reason, which brings up a bit of a more morbid question that's stuck around in my head lately;

how many people here do you think have actually died, but we just didn't know/brushed it off as them 'leaving'? i know i've seen a fair share of threads where some people of interest simply stop posting and the main consensus is they silently left, which i'm sure many of them have, but what's the possibility that something else happened to them? i guess there's no real way to definitely tell unless there's someone else on the forums who's fairly close to them and their personal life, which i'd imagine there's very few of those types of relationships here. and what about those that suddenly go silent, but aren't that known around here for questions to be raised, and have nobody close to them with a presence here? what if it was, let's say for this moment someone like me? would there be any real 'notice', any real inquiry, or would i be passed off as another silent leave, eventually forgotten, left to be offline for the rest of our time here? maybe i'm looking too far into it, or making it more complicated than it is, but it's just something that's gotten my interest

either way, these 6 years have been one hell of a ride, for the better or the worse, and i've come to like being a part of a community that's large enough to be active daily, but small enough to the point where you're familiar with the people here, almost 'at home', i guess? good or bad, i've enjoyed my time here, albeit i haven't really gave that much back to the community more than what i've done with other people's own contributions

maybe this whole post is just nonsensical rambling, but thank u if you do read through this or just click on the topic

Off Topic / monitor won't come out of sleep mode

so this is an issue that's stuck around with me for a while now

i'll say now I mostly shut off my computer when I'm not using unless I'm installing something, which I was this time around

sometimes there's this issue with sleep/hibernation mode on my computer where it's impossible for the monitor to come back on from sleep/hibernation mode. basically, the screen is stuck black and the power button shines only yellow. however, ive mostly been able to 'fix' this by just restarting the computer with a press of the power or the reset button and then the computer works normally

today, I woke up and my monitor was doing it again after a while of not actually doing it, so I tried shaking my mouse around, pressing a few buttons, the usual. it didn't come on, as predicted, so I pressed the 'reset' button on my comp. oddly enough, the reset button didn't work so I instead used the power button. the monitor still didn't come out of sleep mode, and nothing I've tried has fixed it since, unplugging/replugging the monitor, pressing keys, etc. but pressing the buttons on the underside of the monitor does shake the monitor 'awake' for a quick moment before going immediately back to sleep

mid-post update - so I did something where I unplugged it, pressed one of the buttons on the underside, and quickly re-plugged it to see if I'm still getting stuff like notifications/status/etc and I am, and I got a familiar message, apparently there's no signal for either DVA or VGI. the monitor didn't stay on long enough for me to get to the final results since the monitor went back to sleep mode, but I'm willing to bet that's the issue. the problem is when I last had this issue, I just had to check over the plugins and make sure they were actually in and everything, but this doesn't seem to be the case

also I'm afraid I don't actually know the monitor name and everything, I just know it's hp brand
