Off Topic / Am getting good computer, are these parts decent?
« on: October 08, 2016, 12:59:55 AM »
I wanna get a new computer but I also want to know if the parts I picked work well together.
I'm not looking at getting anything better than I have already unless it's cheaper or reasonably close in price.

Game Modes / Nerf Deathmatch
« on: October 06, 2016, 09:44:57 PM »

Nerf Deathmatch
I originally wanted to do testing and create more content for this game-mode, but due to a long hiatus of development, I've decided to go ahead and release it as-is before it sits any longer.

Features
  • Uses the Nerf Maverick*
  • Uses Cliff-side House by Ladle.
  • All brick-packs necessary are included inside the .zip file. There should be no need to download any.
  • The gamemode doubles as a client addon which gives the player fancy sounds including an edited version of Port's footstep mod, damage sounds, and ambience. It's not needed, but will work on your server as well as any other servers you join using this gamemode. The decision to make all fancy sounds client-sided was made to keep download times low.
  • All players are 0.7 scaled.
* The Nerf Maverick is a heavily modified version from the actual add-on. For example, the darts will whistle when fired, until they hit an object (they'll play a tap sound when they stick to a wall). There's slight recoil and more animations, as well as edited sounds.

Outdated Showcase
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiO1hUuIRu4
This video lacks some features added since it was posted. It does showcase the edited footstep mod, ambience, new sounds, and some parts of the map. And.. more, I guess.

If you run into any big issues, please let me know so I can push a quick fix out. I may update this later on, as there are some things I'd like to add, eventually (proper environment settings, for example). If you have ideas, do let me know.

It's the fact that the video is suggested under "comedy" despite being put under the "Entertainment" category.

Off Topic / Windows 10 - Sound JUST SLIGHTLY quieter than normal
« on: September 05, 2016, 02:47:12 PM »
I'm someone who likes to sit at a solid 100% volume all the time, however, I've noticed (both times) that I've switched to Windows 10 from Windows 7, 100% is no longer actually 100%.
I pay extremely close attention to audio and volume is actually pretty important, so I'm noticeably bothered by this. I've googled around and the only issues I've seen people get fixes for is having no audio, or the audio is extremely quiet. That's not my problem, it's just.. slightly quieter than normal. Some things are just as loud as they should be, though, which is odd. I'm thinking Windows 10 has some sort of audio drivers that I don't want but I don't want to go fiddling with that until I know that's the issue.

So, techs of the BLF, does anybody know how I can go about fixing this, or where I can go to find an answer for this?

Gallery / Forest

A fortwars server located in a deep forest, where players need to use the resources around them to build up a base.

BETA-TESTING
^ Back to the top of this post. ^

Beta testing for the Forest game-mode will initiate very soon, once core functions of the game-mode are finished in a way I'm content with. Once I decide that beta-testing is appropriate, a download link will be given for the client add-on, as well as a cache file that you may replace with your own in order to skip download times. You may expect a fair amount of features listed below to be included within the beta, but please be warned that it's highly likely you're going to run into an issue. Since I'm, well, new to coding and all, of course.
There will be no limits to the beta-test period, so anybody is allowed to join in.
The only features that are left to finish off before I may start beta-testing are the money printers, the ability to teleport to friends, and store bricks.
tl;dr
Beta-testing is expected to start soon, within the next couple of days. A download will be given for the client file and a cache file, anybody is allowed in. Expect bugs.

FEATURES
^ Back to the top of this post. ^

The Forest game-mode strives to be similar to game-modes such as fortwars. One of the core features of this game-mode is the fact that the player has to build bases in order to keep themselves safe from other players, if the others they encounter happen to be hostile.
Current features for this game-mode include:

    RESOURCES
    • Cut down trees with an axe item.
    • Building costs resources, which can be gained by cutting down trees.
      • Bigger bricks cost more resources.
      • You'll get resources back if you decide to undo a brick or hammer it.
    • Cutting down a tree fully adds to your score.

    MONEY
    • You can spend money on items, or money printers.
    • There are multiple money printers; the more expensive, the better they are.
    • Weapons vary in price. Price balancing is planned to happen over the beta-test period.

    WEAPONS
    • You're only allowed to spawn weapons on two select weapon spawns. One works for walls, and one for floors.
    • When you spawn a weapon, the only way to grab it is to click it. From there, it'll open up a window asking if you'd like to purchase it.
    • The weapon-pack is modified from HK. Neat icons have been added and multiple weapons have been added that were previously commented out.

    THE MAP
    • The map is a gigantic forest, surrounded by invisible static shapes. This is generated by PTG.
    • The map saves chunks, so you'll see your build even if the server resets.
    • Every single tree is able to be cut down. Every. Single. Tree. Level the whole forest!
    • If you have the client add-on, you'll hear the appropriate ambience. Being underwater will play some special soundeffects to you as well, seen in the video.
I'm pretty sure I went into detail with the wrong features, or didn't include some, so keep that in mind.

    Gallery / robbing a store
    « on: August 18, 2016, 11:58:24 AM »
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO1uYTdvkgA

Unfortunately the ambience this time isn't in-game, but I'm happy to say that everything that happens in the video is entirely done through script and is being developed for a very large game-mode. Extremely easy to set up, too.

I haven't been progressing on this as I wished I had because of panic attacks and such, but I think I'm doing a little better now.
Here's a list of changes and things that'll be added soon.

    • Stores are now two triggers, one in front of the door and one behind the door. This is better than a baseplate because it works with pre-built buildings, and buildings with odd grids.
    • Stores now detect when there's multiple people inside of them so it won't shut the door on people when a single person leaves it. This was bad because the doors have no events.
    • Stores regen money after being robbed, at $100 every few seconds or so. At $1000, the door will re-open and the store will become rob-able, but the cash will keep growing. It caps at $5000.
    • Something I'm looking to add is the possibility of making it so stores only give robbers $10 per cash drop if the amount of police on the server isn't equal to the amount of criminals.

    Police Baton
    • This was technically already done, but wasn't shown, so..
    • The baton is a cop-only weapon and cannot be thrown out of your inventory.
    • It will do 25 damage every time you hit a robber that's done something to warrant them being "wanted" (orange name, caused by things like robbing stores).
    • If a robber is under 25hp, their name will become yellow. If you hit them under this state, they will disappear in a poof of smoke similar to when a body disappears ingame, just with a different, comical sound.
    • The robber will respawn inside of a jail and cannot Self Delete while inside of it. A timer will pop up and tell them how long they have. The time is always the same, and is customizable inside the Slayer menu. I'm thinking of keeping it at a minute.

    Add-Ons / [PLAYER] Cinematic
    « on: August 07, 2016, 06:52:49 AM »
    Cinematic Player (v1.1)

Much less cinematic, however, does put some new stuff on the table.
    Sprinting, and some dramatic stuff..
That being the music that plays just for you when you're about to die (GASP)

    • Uses the same sprinting code as Boom's Dogfight player with a few modifications.
    • If you sprint and use up all of your energy, you will not be able to sprint until the bar is full again.
    • You cant sprint with an item out. This is to fix conflictions with items that use right-click.
    • Delayed jump and lowered jump height.
    • Going 25hp or below causes you to enter a "danger state" that plays dramatic music until you've healed yourself.
    • Danger state also causes your screen to turn red, with the border fading in and out rapidly. The screen also progressively shakes more, the longer you bleed out.
    • You will slowly bleed out until you're finally dead in "danger state," this can only be stopped by healing above 25hp.
    • PREVIEW VIDEO

Boom for the sprint script. The rest is on me. Some help by Conan, though. This is basically baby's first addon.
Are you pro at coding and have any ideas on how to improve the script? I probably made some mistakes here and there, or things I didn't think about that can break the mod. If there's any improvements I can make, anything I can cut, etc. just tell me.  Especially since this was made in a few hours.

    Gallery / [VIDEO] New Playertype
    « on: August 07, 2016, 02:49:47 AM »
    https://youtu.be/Zv2lMhxXWL4

    Features:
    • Can sprint, but has limited energy to do so.
    • If you sprint and waste all your energy, you cannot sprint until the energy bar refills completely.
    • Jumping costs a fraction of your energy, and jumping while sprinting costs a larger fraction.
    • Sprinting is disabled when you take an item out to prevent issues with reloading and sprinting.. or anything else that may use right-click.
    • When you lose 75HP, sound ques come on and your screen will start to shake.
    • The less HP you have, the more your screen will shake.
    • You cannot run while in 'danger state' (above effects).
    • Everything returns to normal when you go back above 25hp.

This will be released when I clean up the code, add a couple features if any, and fix a couple minor issues.
( a possible feature will be that you'll slowly bleedout unless you find a way to heal yourself. if you heal yourself, but you're still under 25hp, effects will go away but your screen will still shake just a tiny bit. maybe. dunno. )

    EDIT:
    Released.

    Add-Ons / [ITEM PACK] Medical
    « on: August 06, 2016, 08:34:13 PM »
    Medical (v1)

A collection of things that keep you alive!
The pack includes some gauze, a pill bottle, and a medpack.

    • This pack uses two items and code from the pill bottle and medpack items already released. Credit to Iban and Bushido.
    • Why release it then? So people have a consistent pack of medical items that they can use on their server in a single .zip file.
    • The third item uses the same code as the medpack but with modified numbers.
    • As always, there's fancy sounds that go with them. The medpack and gauze play a sound during the entire time you're using them, that will stop if you abort the process.
    • Standalone: Pill bottle | Medpack

    Gauze
    Potential healing: 25hp
    Healing time: 2.4 seconds
Click and hold down to use this item. It takes 2.4 seconds to complete, and when you do complete it, you're rewarded with 25 health.

directly off of iban and bushido's items
    Pills
    Potential healing: 50hp
    Healing time: Instant
Click to use this item. You'll pop the pills immediately and get 50 health, however it degrades by 1 health over time.

directly off of iban and bushido's items
    Medpack
    Potential healing: All health
    Healing time: 3.4 seconds
Click and hold down to use this item. It takes 3.4 seconds to complete, and when you do complete it, you're given full health, no matter the playertype.

Iban and Bushido for 90% of everything. The code is entirely done by them, and the modeling for the pills and medpack are by them. Sounds by me, gauze model by Conan.
Are you pro at coding and have any ideas on how to improve the script? I may have made a mistake in the difficult copypasting process. If there's any improvements I can make, anything I can cut, etc. just tell me.

Gallery / [VIDEO] Monster Survival Concept
    « on: July 23, 2016, 02:00:13 AM »
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjmbk6eorcw
This is a concept video for a server I may or may not continue to develop, especially where the reaction I get from this topic can change how I feel about the project. All sounds are in-game.
Build credits go to Kobewarrior. ( https://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=294459.msg9032211#msg9032211 )

If I were to continue on, the game-mode would follow suit of the video, atmosphere-wise. Survivors will be able to pick their own loadouts which may affect health and speed. One user is picked to be a monster, similar to renderman I suppose, who is supposed to kill all survivors before getting taken out themselves.
This would be similar to The Hidden: Source.

    Add-Ons / [ITEM PACK] Drinks
    « on: July 22, 2016, 04:21:00 AM »
    Drinks (v1)

A collection of three nice refreshments!
The pack includes a can of soda, 2-liter soda bottle, and a canteen.

    • When equipped, you'll have to click a single time to "open" the drink unless it's a soda can that's already been opened.
    • You can hold down your mouse button, or individually click to drink the soda.
    • Each drink has a specific amount of uses, indicated by colored lines that come up as a centerprint on your screen.
    • Each drink heals 10HP for every time you drink it.

    Soda Can
    Drinks: 5
You only have to open this can once. Every other time you take it out, or if you drop it, it will remain opened.

    2-liter Soda Bottle
    Drinks: 10
Makes a neat fizzy sound on the very first time it's opened. Regardless it closing when you put it away or drop it, it will not fizz when you or anyone else re-opens.

    Canteen
    Drinks: 7
Really nothing special about this one. Closes like the 2-liter but doesn't have any special fizzing noises.

Conan for the models and most of the coding, Arekan for slight coding edits/fixes and sounds.
Are you pro at coding and have any ideas on how to improve the script? While Conan did play a major part in coding, it was mostly him showing me how to do things while I blindly pasted around and tried my best to follow along. I probably forgeted up something that he did somewhere and it looks ugly. I don't know. If you see something that could use a bit of fixing, tell me! :D

Games / Jalopy - "Driving simulator with a difference!"
    « on: April 27, 2016, 07:13:20 PM »

copy-pasted from the steam store page
    Quote
Navigate miles and miles of tyre changing, fuel burning, carburettor busting, mud clattering terrain, through night and day, rain and shine. Adapt to whatever the procedurally generated world of Jalopy can throw at you.

Upgrade, maintain and care for your Laika 601 Deluxe motor vehicle. Keep close attention to everything from the state of your tyres, the condition of your engine and even the space in your trunk. Repair each aspect of your scrappy little car and install unique upgrades to deal with the changing world. Everything from cargo weight to the condition of your carburettor will determine how your car performs on the open road.

The rise of capitalism brings an economical conundrum. Scavenge for scraps to make a small return of investment, or become a baron of the open road and smuggle contraband under the eyes of border patrols to make a sizable profit.

Developer Greg Pryjmachuk worked on the Formula 1 franchise from 2009 through to 2014. In late 2014, Greg began work on this new driving simulation featuring the fictional Laika 601 Deluxe car; reminiscent of the East German “Trabbie”, it will need much love and care to keep it going on this memorable road trip!

In my own experience, Jalopy is a neat little game where you're going on a roadtrip with your uncle. You have to maintain a not-so-perfect car on the way there that, as far as I can tell, often breaks down. You can purchase upgrades for the car, and trust me, there's already TONS to choose from- for every component listed above. Three fourths of each object's upgrades also change how it looks. There's also other things that you can put on your car, or buy for your car to repair parts. While it is early access, I've had enough fun that I recommend it to some of the people on the forums who enjoy these types of games.

    Off Topic / My school's getting a little pushy. . .
    « on: April 23, 2016, 10:03:35 PM »
In order to use any Google app on my phone (my school constantly uses Google Drive, and Google Docs, so it's easier if I just have all of the apps on my phone so I can work on stuff or view stuff if I need), I need to install a security profile on my phone. This was new as of Friday, when I tried to use an app, it blocked access and said I needed to.
Welp, I read into what the security profile actually does, and..

    :l
I can still use the website version, which is harder to use, but still, the forget?
