I know this probably goes on the gaming megathread or some megathread i don't know about but get on my loving level but this is just a really quick offer-and-lock thread. Anyway, I just spun the "sign up for a video card offer and win 2 games based on your age choice and game genre" wheel and won Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider. I don't know if TR refers to the first or second or what, but I'm not interested.

Off Topic / Need some help deciding on a choice for a gaming computer.

Hey guys, I decided to consult my favorite e-lego simulator forum for help with a probably EXTREMELY major decision regarding my computer. First, a bit of backstory. Some of you might remember a few years back I was talking about getting an alienware laptop, and I decided to do so.

It was terrible, and it broke. The end.

Now, my choice is, I can either get a custom built with parts listed at the end; it fits in my budget of $1,500 HOWEVER this will be my first custom built and I don't know where to start, and I am EXTREMELY concerned about my first time connecting to the internet due to the mad dash I'll have to make to antivirus software and other stuff so my computer doesn't get forgeted up. I am also concerned about the lifespan of it and if the investment will be worth it or not; it might just break during shipping or assembly. No local companies will assemble it for me, so I'm on my own.

My other option is to go to a local Best Buy and buy an Acer and customize it, I can get AROUND the same power as my custom built, although slightly less, for the same price and a warranty; plus, if I buy any parts from the store they'll upgrade it for me without risk of me loving it up. All that is great, but it's still slightly less powerful, I don't know if there will be any GOOD parts to buy an upgrade with from best buy, or if they even sell them, and I have low faith in gaming computer brands, although I have the same faith in my ability to assemble my custom built.

So what do you all suggest? I'm welcome for other brand suggestions, my preferences are a high-end gaming desktop with windows 7 and $1,500 or under, with or without mouse/keyboard/monitor included.

i'm only getting this so i can play call of pripyat with the misery mod so there is no reason for it to be this powerful but forget you this is america

Uh.. yeah. If anyone cares, I'm going to do borderlands from the very start to the very end of the base game. I'll be doing it all night and next morning; I won't be taking any "breaks" as in, ending the game with intent of stopping the challenge. If I fail, I'll try again.

instead of my bitching at everyone and asking for games, I will say; You are all awesome. Albiet, the community isn't the nicest, I still enjoy the blf every time i post every 3 months.

that said, I need ideas on what to get. I've already expended my first gift ($50) and my second is 3 things under 20 each. No, sorry, I won't get you a game... not yet.

So uh. I was on my computer doing things related to steam (on that note it wont even work right on my second laptop) and suddenly i notice my keyboard starts changing colors on it's own. I brush it off, thinking it's nothing major. Then... I hear something in the center of the laptop sizzling. I shut my computer off, open it up, look, and decide to just leave it alone for a day. now, when i booted it up, it sizzled and started popping and letting off smoke. now it won't boot at all.

So.. on that note, I need a good gaming laptop that is better than a brick. Under 2k/pre-built.

I've looked myself, and I'm thinking about an asus, but, I'd like you GUIS opinions since you all major in computer technology.

Yes, I know alienware is bad and it was a mistake. I'm not waiting 3 months for it to be repaired and happen again, and I can't get a refund.

Games / Penumbra series.

Oh, and stuff:

Frictional games, a horror game making company, which you may know from amnesia, made a series of games, these are their boxart..s? In order of creation.



The penumbra series started as a swedish students' project, the Penumbra tech demo. Showing off physics that were next-gen at the time (still are) For example, to open a door, you push forward on the mouse. Too hard, and it'll slam into the wall and fly back closed. Also with dynamic lighting, next-gen graphics, and.. Reasonable AI.. Well, the tec's was horrible.

It was so well received, he went to work on overture, at home, with a cast of 2 voice actors. Yet, he still made an amazing game. The general gameplay of it boils down to the fact that you're freezing cold, tired, and not some mini-tank. Combat is clunky and you'll need to use cheap tactics. Intended, this was to encourage stealth, showing off the AI. For example; If you toss something, something comes to the sound. look at an enemy while hiding, and you'll start to panic, breathing heavily and you vision blurring. Amongst other things, this generally made a great game, even for the budget.

Then, black plague. Keeping the physics, as all games did, you started out in an even weaker state, with no weapons. With even BETTER AI, and more nerve-racking hiding moments, improved physics, and great (but confusing) story, it was a hit. Again. A few things were added, new enemies, and more dynamic gameplay elements, like.. When you get hurt, you limp. When you're nearly dead, you can hardly run, or hear anything over your heartbeat.

Requiem, is just a puzzle game. it ties up a few loose ends in the story.

If you get these games, get them on steam. each are 8 dollars and the black plague gold edition comes with bp and requiem.

These games are the best horror games made in my opinion.

Sorry for the lack of details; I've been wanting to make this thread for awhile, and I'm tired.

Oh, and please don't post blatant spoilers. If you must, warn about them.

Oh yeah, and screenshots. The general game is grainy and dark. (1 shot from each game)

Tried my best to hide any bloody-ish stuff or most of it. Can just a zombie dog with blood on it be a bannable thing?

Off Topic / Blackbox thing popping up when my games crash, virus? Help?

So, i was playing penumbra black plague tutorial, and I finish it, then the game flashes out and a program pops up, named "BLACKBOX", half of it was in caps. It was saying penumbra caused an exception, and had button options like "GO TO WEBSITE" "DOWNLOAD FIXER" and such. Moreso, it's obvious it isn't a frictional games application, frict is made by a foreigners, but they don't have as terrible sentence structure/whatever as that bb app. e.g.: "you application might problem" from the popup.

I've run S+S&D and MBAM, but nothing was detected. Help?

As i'm sure atleast a few here heard, tons of tornadoes in the south US decided to go "forget YOU" and kill some 200+ in several southern states.

Most of northern Louisiana is without power, thanks to power cords tangled in trees and such. My city, stonewall, is still without power.

A few tornadoes went through fryston or however it's spelt. Straight through my best friend's street, and the news reported 3 dead in that city, no names. i haven't been able to get in contact with him. as extremely morbid it is, maybe he got lucky and escaped, and the other family got killed or something.. Then again, that's not even -that- lucky, there's still deaths.

My whole neighborhood is destroyed, well, most of it. aside from my house.

i'm at a hampton inn until saturday, hopefully we'll have power then..

Um.. So..

I guess, what can I go to take my mind off this? :I Not fap, family. Not game, my mouse usb plug got bent apart in my suitcase.. There's a pool, but it's late..

Music / Dangerous business since 1797 by the legion of doom loop thing.

So, i wanted to make an add-on, but i couldn't really.. Do anything, actually. Not much else to say, it's about a few seconds of a loop from TLOD's mash-up song, Dangerous business since 1797. Also, I would've looped something longer but it would be larger. I tried to stay as close to 100kb as possible. Oh, and.. The file will only be up for 7 days, I was rushed and i couldn't take the time to register anything. i'll use mediafire or something better later.

I suggest just listening to this with a client music player, it's not that great for a first, or good for a build.

I KNOW "BUSINESS" IS WRONG IN THE DL, I WAS RUSHED.

If it's a bit quiet, sorry. The normal volume actually temporarily broke my headsets, it's not that its.. loud, it's just got odd static type noise, in ALL of TLOD's songs. I tried to tone it down enough so the static noise isn't too bad.

Uh.. yeah. Here's a rundown of what the stuff is. I got ups ground shipping, so expect the review monday.

Biofuel: Caffeinated popcorn

Case o' bawls: 10 glass bottles of bawls soda.

Crackheads: 10 boxes of white and dark chocolate coated expresso beans

Gamer grub pizza: A trail mix of sorts, meant to be poured into your mouth, no crumbs, no grease.

Blood energy potion: Free energy drink I got with code: FREEBLOOD (You need to have $50 worth of stuff)

Love energy potion: Another energy potion by harcos, I reviewed the first 2 already. It's supposed to be strawberry flavored. I doubt that, for example; HP energy potion by harcos was meant to taste like cinnamon apple. It tasted like nail polish and made me throw up.

USB cooler thing: Single can mini desktop fridge.

USB squid: 4 port usb hub.

I don't think I'll review the squid, it's just a hub.
