Off Topic / Life, the universe, and beyond
« on: February 11, 2017, 03:43:39 PM »
Everyday while I'm doing some random activity, I remember that we're all just living on a giant sphere, floating in an unexplored universe that's expanding by the second. We have no clue why we are really here, and not one of us really actually knows the reason or has a means of finding that reason. We all settle for ideas, theories, and myths that half heartedly answer these questions, then purposefully push it all to the back of our minds because it is too much to even start thinking about. We divide ourselves up and try to establish superiority but not one of us has a real answer to it. It's just a matter of the loudest voice gets to be the leader. The dude with the biggest stick wins and we listen to whoever is holding it. All the thoughts, emotions, memories that you have EVER had are all fit neat and tightly in a ~1200 cubic centimeter organ called the brain. The complexities of the activities we do are all a series of reactions in this brain and throughout the body, but in the end that's all they are, reactions. Does anyone else ever think of this, or has everyone just settled on not wanting to know?

What are your ideas on the big questions of life forums? Are we here for a reason? Do we have souls? Or are we all just here as some kind of forgeted up science experiment?

It seems that the more we know, the more lost we become.

Off Topic / What's the problem with political correctness?
« on: August 08, 2015, 04:40:37 PM »
A big thing I see today is frustration over how politically correct the USA is. I feel that if this country were the opposite, people would be at each others throats. Another thing is, I see that many groups who want this country to be less politically correct get pissed off when someone insults them and does the same to them. Maybe it's our history of racism and discrimination? The mash up of many cultures here? Do you guys think we should strive to eliminate political correctness? If so, why?

Oh snap two Israeli soldiers killed. In retaliation Israel has fired rockets into southern Lebanon and a UN peacekeeper was killed. This could be the start of a long and bloody war like the one in 2006.

Off Topic / What do you guys think of my friends rapping?
« on: January 02, 2015, 09:10:47 PM »
One of my best friends is pretty good at rapping and hes trying to come up. His freestyles are nuts, he spits all the time for me. What do you guys think of him? The recordings kind of turned out stuffty on the second one, but yeah these are his remixes. He writes the bars. I'm just wondering what people outside our friend group would think about him.

Off Topic / Need some help answering questions for a job.
« on: December 25, 2014, 03:47:08 PM »
I applied for a job as a "bike ambassador" at my college and I got these questions sent to me:

Quote
Submit a bicycle statement that details your personal interest in cycling and/or you interest in bicycle planning/education from a professional standpoint.
How many hours/week would you prefer to work?
What is your expected graduation date?
Why do you want to work for Bicycle Programs as a Bike Ambassador?
Please provide your schedule of availability from 6:30 AM to 9:30 PM for the Spring 2015 Semester.
Please provide your schedule of available from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM for January 5, 2015 through January 11, 2015.

I don't get what exactly they want for a "bicycle statement." This is what I came up with:

I am mostly interested in the wellness aspect of personal cycling. I believe bikers generally lead healthier lifestyles than drivers and walkers, and are more willing to participate in exercise as well. I believe this aspect is what should be touted as the primary incentive of biking on top of the faster transportation times, low financial costs, and the much smaller strain on the environment as well. I think that with this viewpoint, the student body outlook of biking on campus can shift to a more positive one, as awareness on safety, convenience, and general leisure is made available to all who want to know.

Does anyone think that this is what they are looking for, or do they want a long ass page elaborating more? I've never had an employer ask for something like this. Thanks for the help.

General Discussion / Projectile Survival Returns
« on: November 28, 2014, 06:07:34 PM »
Projectile Survival is a fun thing that I built where I shoot projectiles in an enclosed arena at you while you attempt to dodge said instruments of death. Last one alive wins! The server is really basic right now, and I am planning on adding more projectiles, music, things to do, admins, etc. based on how the server does. Hopefully it will be a fun thing we can all enjoy. The server is a sort of weird city theme.                                          :nes:

So I was reading this article: http://www.vox.com/2014/10/8/6918485/the-overt-islamophobia-on-american-tv-news-is-out-of-control and thought that I could do something about Islamophobia in America. It seems that a popular argument is that not enough Muslims are coming out to condemn the actions of groups such as CIA and should be apologizing for their actions. According to a recent poll by the Arab American Institute, the "approval rating" of Muslims is the lowest of all groups in America:

http://b.3cdn.net/aai/3e05a493869e6b44b0_76m6iyjon.pdf (direct link to study)

I won't apologize because I think it is ridiculous to say sorry for the actions of the extremists who I and most Muslims feel no relation to, but I think that I can at least show some people that we aren't just sitting at home and not giving a crap about this subject.

Many Muslims say that we should do nothing at all since it just conveys the message that we have something to do with what is going on in the Middle East, as shown in this article.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/06/muslims-condemn-CIA-debate_n_5927772.html?cps=gravity

Everyday I hear discriminatory remarks on my college campus towards Arabs and Muslims, and I don't think getting angry at them will help my cause at all. Instead, I would rather try and see if I can make a student activist group named something such as "Muslims against CIA" or "Muslims against terrorism." I want to see if I can get some people to join and a professor to sponsor and represent the group. I want to get the message out that we Muslims hate CIA more than any other group of people. Believe me, I say this with all my heart.

Also, I am not looking for a religious debate please, this is just something personal to me that I feel has more to do with basic humanity rather than religion. Let me know what you guys think of my idea. I also need some inspiration as to what this group would be doing exactly, besides protests and fundraising for refugees of all religions in the Middle East. Thanks.

Projectile Survival
The stuff of legends

edit: Worked some more on the server and it's looking pretty good so far. Added the capability to be the controller as well. Whoever survives last now will get to control the projectiles. Also server music controlled through voting.

Big thanks to DragonoidSlayer for helping me build and design the server!

So I was watching the Arabic youtube and came across this video. Beware it might be kind of graphic/unsettling to some people. Also it's very loud, lower the volume.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2Hmn-VMc2k

Anyway, it's this kid brought into a hospital after he was presumed dead. His family members come in behind him. The medical personnel uncover him and what looks like his brothers start shouting "he was alive just a little bit ago!"

The frustrated guy in the black tank top then starts shouting at him to "wake up!" over and over again. Not a few seconds later, the boys eyes open after being closed and he slightly moves. I just thought it was crazy how his family must have felt. I hope the boy lived, since he looked extremely pale and yellow.
