Gallery / Subterranean Lair (WIP, Help Wanted?)

Hello. I've been working on a project for a while, off and on. The intent of this map on a server is... well, I don't even know. Could be just a hang out, or a map you just explore, or perhaps a vehicle to roleplay in. Anyone interested can PM me, or add me on Steam or Discord, or whatever. My IGN is now Nightrate, so look for that name when joining my server. I host sporadically.

Lore: It's a Caribbean island, with a modest hotel resort, relying on the natural beauties of the sea rather than fancy expensive facilities. Two sentry towers built during the golden age of piracy remain, and serve as historical ruins for the resort's purposes. Below the surface, a mysterious facility lies, relatively undisturbed. Whether benevolent in purpose or not, this underground lair houses cutting edge laboratories, attractive architecture, and a generally self-sufficient community of top scientists.

Off Topic / What Are Your Non-Video Game Hobbies?

I really hope there isn't an active thread like this that I'm missing

Pretty self-explanatory.

I currently have nothing else going on, and coming off of Christmas I have some money and free time, so I want to explore and figure out what else I want to do with my life.

Inactive hobbies:
-Rock collecting

I have a few ideas for hobbies that I haven't tried yet:
-Lapidary (stone cutting for jewelry)
-Piano
-Arduino/other DIY electronics

So discuss what you do with your free time below.

Edit: Damn I wasn't expecting much when I hit post. This is a quite interesting thread so far, keep it up.

Suggestions & Requests / Perfect Dark Weapons

I know we have tons of weapons, both modern and sci-fi, so this sort of request really shouldn't have much priority in the community; however, I believe Perfect Dark is fully deserving of the Blockland treatment.

Perfect Dark is a game eclipsed by GoldenEye, but I would say in about 95% of all cases, Perfect Dark is objectively the better game, but I digress. PD has a few features that haven't been mimicked very much by other games, the weapon design is one of them. Guns all have personality, they're each unique and uniquely powerful. The Falcon 2 is laser accurate, fires as fast as you can, and can be used to pistol whip on top of that. The Callisto NTG is an alien SMG which can either spray or fire high velocity rounds at a slower rate. Every weapon feels overpowered in its own way, and while not all of the alternate fire modes transfer to BL, many of them would, and they're integral to what makes that weapon tick. Also, some weapons may be dual wielded (not as many as in GoldenEye though, rifles aren't one armed).

Alt fires that would easily translate:

-Pistol whip (Falcon 2 and variants, DY357 and LX variant)
-Charge shot (Mauler)
-Different round types (Phoenix, Callisto NTG, Crossbow, Devastator, Laser,
-Detonate (Remote Mine)
-Underbarrel grenade launcher (Super Dragon)
-Deploy as proximity mine (Dragon)
-Magazine discharge (Cyclone)
-Proximity pinball/detonation (Grenade/N-bomb)
-Deploy as sentry gun (Laptop Gun)
-3 round burst (Magsec 9, Shotgun)
-Cloak (RC-P120)
-Grinder (Reaper)
-Targeted rocket (Rocket Launcher)
-Fly-by-wire (guided) rocket (Slayer)
-Lethal injection (Tranquilizer)
-Disarm (Unarmed)
-Throw (Knife)

Alt fires that wouldn't really translate
-Threat detector (K7 Avenger, Timed and Proximity Mines) [Would be weird in BL, might work but be buggy and/or incompatible with stuff]
-Crouch (Sniper Rifle) [Default BL function]
-Use scope (AR34) [Default zoom or right click zoom exist]
-Targeted lock-on (CMP-150, FarSight XR-20) [Cheaty, also unnecessary in a PC game where mouse look exists]

Only one full weapon wouldn't translate into BL which would be the psychosis gun, it could be a team switcher, but such a thing would be so cheaty it wouldn't be worth it.

Taking on this project is also a good excuse to port over GoldenEye weapons, as most of those are redone better or directly ported over to PD.

I know that some add-ons have alternate fire modes such as Gcat's grenade launcher from the dweapon pack, it uses clearghostbrick to swap which grenade type you load in. A similar system could emulate the alternate fire modes system of the game in question.

Suggestions & Requests / More Boats

There's an overwhelming number of cars and other land vehicles, and planes and other sky vehicles, but only a scarce few watercraft. There is only one by default, and the only boats I can find are old and/or don't work. I feel as though water is half useless without something to drive through it, the most you can do is row or swim between islands in a tropical sort of build.

A good place to start and look for inspiration would be GTA's boats.


Also slightly off-topic. GSF's aircraft carrier came with a no-mount script. I'm wondering if there is, or if it's possible to make, a standalone version. This could lead to larger vehicles where the passengers do not need to sit being made, though I recall this concept being very buggy, so...

Help / Server Unjoinable By Everybody Except Me

I've tried hosting a listen server through Steam, and I've tried hosting a dedicated server through a standalone BL install. I can join my own dedicated server, but nobody else can. The message given to other people when trying to join is that the connection timed out. My ping in the server list is also ---. I really don't know what the issue is, as a few months ago I've hosted with the same configuration and the server was reachable. I've attached the log from my final dedicated attempt tonight.

Help / Server not showing up

I've tried everything I can think of but I'm still not seeing my server on the list. I've tried several port configurations, hosting through steam and nonsteam versions, and nothing seems to work. I'm trying to host a listen server, which I've done on the same router in the past. I don't know what to do.

General Discussion / Working on a project, lacking direction

After like a year or something, I'm back. It's been a super long time since I've been around, so I may be a little out of the loop. I've changed my in-game name to Nightrate as it's my new username everywhere.

So I played around with PTG and ended up with a terrain that I really liked, so I built a dock on one of the beaches.





I don't know what kind of server to make, nor where to go from here. This could be a traditional fantasy setting, a pirate island, a resort, or tons of other things. I would also need help building additional structures, and possibly finding add-ons I missed depending on the server type, so feel free to join if you want to help.

General Discussion / General has failed me.

I recently saw all of the buzz for Adjustable Plate, so I decided to give it a try. The GUI was simple yet powerful, and I liked the idea immensely. So, just as a goof, I set lighting and reflective lighting to black. It was just as I expected, not worth playing in unless in an enclosed space. So later on, I hosted on Skylands for my friend. When I planted a brick to grab a weapon and play with events for a minute, as my habit, the brick was black, which is normal because my color was set to black. Then I noticed that my wrench was black, then it dawned on me: the lighting was forgeted up. In ANOTHER map, a map which I have had no trouble with in the past and have never edited had no lighting. The skybox was intact, particles were still colorful, but bricks were black, glow and lights didn't work (because reflective lighting was off, which it shouldn't have been anyway because I was on a different map). After playing with my graphical settings and restarting Blockland a few times, I failed. So I just deleted AdjP, which fixed all the problems aforementioned. My buddy Owen (who I mentioned before, not by name though) was able to see everything just fine, I didn't go on any other servers, so I don't know if it just broke everything for me, or everything for me on my server.

tl;dr Adjustable Plate forgeted up lighting for me until I deleted it.

Games / Trouble with Garry's Mod and Left 4 Dead 2

In L4D2, common infected when exposed to extra light (flashlight/muzzle flash) they glow yellow and white (sometimes they don't, so, I have no loving clue). I've also noticed that water textures either glow white or disappear completely when extra light hit's them. In Garry's Mod, a lot of times, models (and even viewmodels, something that L4D2 spared...) are completely black, Kleiner has patches of black on white for example. This really pisses me off that this would happen to two of my favorite games (this happened after I installed them, if I confused anyone). I hope someone else has gone through this and has a fix.

Help / Unlimited Mining Stopped Working

Hello, forums, I have been having many issues with Unlimited Mining lately. When I first got it, I used it in a few servers and everything worked perfectly, then one of my admins came along and we decided to mine to the very bottom of the dig space. When we were done playing around I cleared all bricks with /sagmode nuke and ended the dig to refresh the map. Now I try it, and when I start the dig, it loads the initial spawn room, three times, and doesn't load any mine-ables. Half of the time it doesn't even give me the pickaxe. I have everything needed to play, and I am wondering if I am missing anything. Please help me to play again. Thanks in advance.
