Help / Game crashes when I attempt to load bricks
« on: February 27, 2012, 10:55:34 AM »
I haven't played in a few months and I got on today to revisit the last build I was working on when I last played. I can create a game, but when I load the bricks, I get a "Blockland.exe encountered a problem and needs to close" error a few seconds into ghosting.

I tried several different maps, and it's the same every time.

General Discussion / So far Blocklands smorgasbord of DM's suck
« on: September 26, 2011, 09:56:19 PM »

Maybe they're just not to my taste, but I've noticed recurring patterns in all of the TDMs and DMs I have joined.

They're flashy... lots of blocks, colors, and eye candy... yet really lacking interaction.

Why is this? Has the BL community really accepted that TDM's should this be boring and uneventful? Every TDM I join, it's *walking... walking... walking... oh look, an enemy! Oh wait, that's just a tree... walking walking walking.. an enemy! **In combat for 5 seconds** Walking again... walking... walking*. Really?!

For god sakes... the funnest TDM I've played so far had a 2 minute heli flight to the enemy. What the hell?!

If anyone knows of any TDMs that break away from this... PM me. I'm really getting bored. I would create my own, but it seems even with my best efforts, the community hates my builds.

General Discussion / Blockinlicks Desert Deathmatch
« on: September 26, 2011, 03:10:37 AM »
Server
"Desert DM [Beta]" - No pass

Specs
-Desert
-7005 blocks
-Available weapons: Sword [Default], Steel Long Sword, Spear, Steel Hatchet, Bow

Basic description
-Plenty of cover, including complete buildings, destroyed buildings, partial walls etc.
-Smaller arena of 3 complete buildings and 3 destroyed buildings with some open spaces around.
-Each building has more than one strategic access point, discouraging campers.
-One larger 3 tier building in a corner.
-Setting wise, each building is made up of many small blocks. That being said, the buildings are almost entirely destructible, however, the only destructive weapon is the spear.

Criticism

After hosting the server for a bit, I have received some criticism.

Let me just say that, yes, I am new. My build may seem noob because it is, but I do believe that some of your criticism isn't fair. If your criticism is just "Your arena looks like crap", I just assume your trolling. If you really want to criticize my work, then tell me how I can go about improving on my design. I'll listen to that.

Some say that-

My arena is too small

Well, my inspiration for this arena DID NOT come from your contemporary Blockland build. It came from some of my most favorite oldschool games such as 007 Goldeneye [N64], Doom64, Turok [N64], Diablo, Diablo II, and such. Hell, even Platform Racing 3 has had a lot of influence on how I want my DM/s to play.

That being said, my DM isn't designed to be large like most others. It's designed for constant combat.

The problem I seem to be having with most DMs on BL is that there is more walking around and talking than action. The first one I ever tried, there was a two minute helicopter ride before you ever saw an enemy. That's really boring imho.

Well, my DM isn't like that... as soon as you spawn, you gotta hit the ground running and go kill some blockheads!

My arena is too plain and simple

...and that's the way I want it. My arena may be simple to the eye, but to a strategist, it's all you need for some good skilled fun.

Most DMs on BL seem to be over-glorified and flashy, yet lacking what is truly fun... combat. My DM focuses almost purely on combat.

My weapons are too limited

If I put anything else but medieval weapons in it, it wouldn't be much of a Desert Deathmatch would it? Besides, if you like ranged combat, then get good with the spear and bow... if you can't do that, then go play another DM.

My arena is visually unappealing

Your point exactly? Who cares? I play a DM for combat and strategy, not eye candy. If you want eye candy, go join a RP or Freebuild.

General Discussion / Questions about Pvp/Deatmatch/Dueling etc.
« on: September 25, 2011, 05:41:53 PM »

Hi, I am relatively new to Blockland. I used to play the Demo for hours on end until I broke down recently and finally bought the full version. I have RTB and know how to use it. I also Know how to install addons outside of RTB. I have only ever joined one game online.

That being said, You have a general idea of what I know.

Now to the questions.

Generally; how do people go about PvP?
I read some threads to see if I could learn a few things and I did, but it's still not eloquent enough to feel like I know what to do.

A client to interact?
I read something about needing to download a "client" to be able to interact. I'm not sure what this means. Is it an add-on or is the client something totally different? You can't actually "damage" players without this client?

Boundaries?
I also read that you can create boundaries to keep players "inside the build". Is there a special way to go about this or is it just "disable jetpack and build high walls"?

How to deal with trolls?
What precautions should I take to ensure that people don't intentionally sabotage and troll my dueling game? For instance; making sure that there is more than one spawn location discourages spawn kills. Information like that would save me a lot of rebuilding time.

If I wanted to host a PvP game, how should I go about it?
I've read things about dueling, slayer, and other things, but I'm not really sure how to go about it or what to choose. Do I download one of these mods [IE: Slayer] and use it and it will do the rest or what?

Caution- Boring speech below this line
_____________________________ _______

When I played the demo for hours on end, I had the most fun building fortresses, dueling grounds, and such. It was such a bummer though because I urged to actually have some people to duel against on these builds. Even with only 150 blocks [Even less when I played years ago] I still managed to have fun building these.

Now I actually have the opportunity to put these "arena's" to use, so any help at all is much appreciated.

General Discussion / Missing blocks or are they just available online?
« on: September 24, 2011, 08:44:04 PM »
When I joined an online game for the first time, I noticed A LOT of new blocks that I didn't have offline. I figured maybe it was a patch update after getting online, but when I played offline again, they weren't there.

Are they blocks that you can only use when you're online? Or can people download their own special blocks and the players' game that I had joined just had a lot of them?

I'd really like to know how to get them.
