Games / Salt - WindWalker sailing... and stuff
« on: September 12, 2014, 07:40:52 PM »
I was perusing Steams Greenlight submissions, and came across this: Salt

I thought exactly what everyone else thought at first glance: It's another stuffty survival game. But after watching their Greenlight video, I noticed the sailing mechanics. After downloading their demo, and building a sail raft, I had a great time island hopping with it. Once I built a sail boat, I was blown away! It's all done with the mouse (sail & rudder), but I found myself rarely missing the good ol' WASD.

Although I've never played it, I've been told that the sailing is a lot like the sailing in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, hence the title. Although clearly an inspiration for the game, it's not directly aping it.

Don't take this as a survival game, it only has survival elements. Such as hunger only effecting regeneration rates, rather than draining health. Even when starving, health and stamina (slowly) regenerate. Take this as an adventure and exploration game.

There is a lot to craft in this game, what's in your crafting manual at spawn is only a 5th* of what you can actually craft. So, please, share your discoveries!I'd like to make this a megathread for such discoveries, so if any of you forum gurus have a better OP layout, either PM it to me, or create your own and I'll lock this one.

Oh, and Greenlight page!

Games / I made a gameplay vid of BOMB
« on: August 07, 2014, 03:57:25 PM »
Misleading title will mislead.

So I'm trying a go at making gameplay videos with my commentary. This is a video of the game BOMB, a game I recently discovered and fell in love with, so much that I decided to put my integrity on the line and see how loudly the harshly honest Blockland forumers will judge me for it... and I wouldn't want it any other way :)

PLEASE yell at me about my stuff choice of resolution. This is my first ever video on the tubes. I also have a stuff monitor.

Games / 4 Sid Meier's games for trade or sale!
« on: July 22, 2014, 10:55:52 PM »
So I bought the Humble Sid Meier Bundle a while ago, but it was mostly to get Railroads (check out my wishlist, and you'll see why). I've never been a fan of either his Civilisation or Ace Patrol games, so I've decided to finally put those up for (preferably) trade or sale.

I'll link my wishlist again so you can see what I want! I am open to suggestions, but my wishlist should give you a basic idea of what I want.

I'm open to money offers as well, but I know I won't get much for these games, so if there are no trades I like, they may as well go up for sale.

Thanks Blocklanders!

Games / Entropy - A Steamy Surprise!

Entropy: Open World. Close Combat

Seems to have come from out of nowhere on steams early-access 'bout 6 months ago. I was looking for an open-world MMO and found this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5VGtQTXRRI. Looks like Eve with fun combat, and so far that's what I've got.

Unfortunately, a majority of the time you're in the 2D map screen (especially if you're a trader like me), but this is subject to change.

So yeah, throw some IGN's my way and I'll add ya to the OP...

Games / Sub Rosa - Next version available for Pre-Order!
« on: March 22, 2014, 12:58:28 PM »
Sub Rosa

Quote from: Cryptic Sea
Sub Rosa is a multiplayer FPS about tense deals, double-crosses and car chases.

I'm gonna see if I can host this a megathread of sorts, now that Cryptic Sea (the developer) has secured a contract with Devolver Digital (a publisher).

Pre-Order it here
http://gdc.devolverdigital.com/#subrosa

Here's some mo links!
Cryptic Sea's twitter
Devolver Digitals twitter
Sub Rosa's twitter
Cryptic Sea's blog
Sub Rosa's Greenlight page - it's already been greenlit, but it's something to watch

Updates!
A lot of things have changed, from the avatars head shape to the way they hold and reload their guns. The best way to find out about this is to watch these videos off of Cryptic Sea's twitch:
http://www.twitch.tv/crypticsea

And if you're wondering what happened to the Cryptic Sea forums, I think they were shut down because someone released a development copy that leaked out from one of the Twitch streams. It's some sort of damage control, now that Sub Rosa has a price on it.

If your looking for a great server, hop on 4 Stacks (when it's up), it's a commonly popular server.

General Discussion / Need some help with starting a build
« on: March 13, 2014, 12:53:23 PM »
So I've decided to get off my arse and finally build something decent in this game. I feel I've built enough houses, businesses, and drug labs in city rp's to understand the most basic mechanics of building and eventing to start this project.

The project is to build some of the major buildings from the Manhattan map of the PC version of Crimson Skies. Mainly anything that was considered a Danger Zone in the races, being:

1. The Zeppelin Dock (where the Arcadia and freighter zeppelins get shot down at)
2. The Police and Taxi towers
3. The two towers connected by that big glass archway (over the elevated highway near the center of the map)
4. And at least one of the towers with beams and cranes on top

What I need help with:
Reference Materials
If you know what game I'm talking about then you should know how old of a game this is (released in 2000). Getting it to run on my Win 7 comp is hard enough, even without this loving ASUS v-card. I've Googled it in many ways, yet it either leads me to the "Wings Over Manhattan" book or the old boardgame map. So if have this game running or at least know where I can get these references, please tell me.

Bricks
As much as I would like to stick to the default bricks, I'm open to using packs if you have any you can suggest(with links, preferably). The game is set in 1937, so the art style will be Art Deco on top of Victorian towers. Some constructive input would be nice as well.

Any and all help will be gladly appreciated. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to get CS working again!

EDIT Found some videos on YouTube;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIbujYd8n5I&list=PLF464A004839F02F5
-@3:46 the building arising in the foreground spitting out Cabbie with NY on the side is 2 (the Police tower)
-@4:21 the building next to it is the Taxi tower (I intend to include the building it's connected to via walkway)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8mBDu_KDVs&list=PLF464A004839F02F5
-@1:43 the buildings in front of him that he flies under is 3
-@2:04 the big glass hangar that the Arcadia is slipping under from is 1

To get an idea of 4, just watch more of the videos.

Games / BOMB - Shoot to Thrill
« on: March 08, 2014, 02:03:33 PM »
If you can even vaguely remember Crimson Skies (preferably the PC version), then this is the game for you!

BOMB is made by some French indies called La Moustache Studio. I've played the game and the gameplay (flying physics and mechanics) instantly reminds me of Crimson Skies! Even the main character in the story might as well be Nathan Zachary (or maybe an even more cartoonish version of him).

It also has multiplayer DM and TDM gamemodes (more coming). It only has 4 planes and 3 maps to choose from, but they're adding more as they continue to finish the game.

If you don't like Desura you can vote for it on Greenlight and wait.
Shoot to Thrill = Shoot to Start (it didn't make sense to me at first, but now I know)

Quote from: La Moustache developer blog
Great job, Microsoft! I congratulate you to design a pad, who wants to be a standard, and modify its name along with your hardware versions. Please note that it is not even a name like ““XBOX 360 For Windows (Controller) rev2″, no, it’s just the completely inverted name. Go forget yourself!

Games / Help me remember this game
« on: December 21, 2013, 11:34:15 AM »
A while ago I was surfing some abandonware site (can't remember which one) and I came across this futuristic-looking game that had flying cars in it, inspired by The Fifth Element and Blade Runner. It wasn't based or built on either of those games. It had a limited choice of vehicles, and the plot of the story had something to do with bounty hunting. It was made back in the late 90's and was 3D. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? A link would be fine, too.

It is not Beam Breakers

Help / Add-Ons folder for Steam version
« on: December 18, 2013, 03:05:57 PM »
Where does the Add-Ons folder go when I download the game from Steam? I tried searching for this (through the forums) and couldn't come up with anything, so please help.

Usually when there's a game I bought that turns up on Steam I find it more convenient to just transfer the key to Tteam and redownload it (after uninstalling the non-steam version first). This worked well for BL, but now I have my old Add-Ons folder, and have no idea where it went.
