Creativity / Blockhead
« on: May 07, 2010, 08:11:39 PM »
I looked around and didn't see a quick topic to post this in, so decided to make one. I drew this during an IEEE event a month or so ago, just got a scanner today.

So post your own version of blockheads, I thought this looked like some kid version of a blockhead.

Off Topic / New laptop/netbook
« on: April 14, 2010, 04:49:54 PM »
My mom is currently using an old pc with 256 mb of ram, we think it's time to get a netbook. All she needs is something that can run office 2007 and maybe a few webpages at the same time. Even though that's a small requirment, she also wants to be able to keep the netbook for a long time (as she has done with her current computer). Does anyone have any suggestions around $450 or less? Let me rephrase that, max is $450. Personally I want to get her a computer with a dual core, but maybe that's overkill.
This computer looks nice:

It's actually better then my own laptop, but at least I know it'd be a good computer. From experience I can also say this would last her awhile, which I can't say about laptops with lower specs.

Oh, and the reason we want a netbook instead of a cheap desktop is because it needs to be portable. I think we can just connect the netbook to a monitor and use a usb mouse if she doesn't like its screen size/touchpad.

Modification Help / Brick Manipulation
« on: April 11, 2010, 10:58:33 PM »
Blockland has the advantage of working with thousands of bricks, yet we don't have any good way to work with them. My goal is to make some tools that will allow for easily working with groups of bricks, this is why I am coming here, to ask for ideas on the subject.

Right now I have a script object called the VirtualBrickList. It comes with several methods that can load bricks from save files or the current game, along with several things to do to them. In my opinion, the best method is one that allows you to align builds with other ones. So for instance, you can say "place this build on the north edge of this one."

Can you guys think of any other easy to use methods? This is intended to be used by add-on developers, but in theory should be simple enough for an event interface.

Off Topic / Touch pads (buying one)
« on: February 19, 2010, 07:45:43 PM »
I'm currently looking into buying a usb touch pad for my laptop. The two main reasons I want one are to take notes (that require drawings), do math homework and draw outlines for 2d sprites.

Here is the pad I am currently looking at: http://www.wacom.com/bamboo/bamboo_pen_touch.php

It's $99 and an alright size. My main reason for looking into this one is my dad's coworker uses this pad and a professor at my university also uses a pad from this company. This pad supports pen input and multitouch.

Does anyone have a better suggestion?

Off Topic / STS-130 Space Shuttle Mission
« on: February 08, 2010, 02:22:37 AM »
Space shuttle Endeavour is scheduled to launch in about 50 minutes. Current conditions are 'green' for launch, and they're optimistic it'll stay that way.

You can watch the launch at: http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html?param=public

Off Topic / Space Shuttle Landing (STS-127)
« on: July 15, 2009, 12:51:38 PM »
Space Shuttle Endeavour is scheduled to land tomorrow, Friday, at 10:48 CDT (GMT-6)
Once again you can see it at http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html?param=public

Since it's awhile since then I'll bump the topic an hour or so before, if I remember that is.

---------- Old post

Space Shuttle Endeavour docks with the station today at 12:55 pm CDT (GMT-6)! (1 hour and 20 minutes from now)

The shuttle and station are already within site of eachother, you can watch the approach live on NASA TV:
http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html?param=public

It might not be as exciting as a launch (to me it is) but I doubt a lot of you guys see spacecraft docking or when a shuttle crew enters the station for the first time. I'll post again at about 15 minutes before docking.

---------- Older post
You might have heard about this mission already due to weather postponing the past two launch attempts.

Basically the Endeavour crew will attach the last part of the Japanese "Kibo" module, an outside platform for experiments directly in the space environment.

Launch today is scheduled at 6:03 pm eastern (GMT-5).

Currently on Nasa tv you can see the launch pad is in the middle of some heavy rain.
Stream: http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html?param=public

Talk about the launch and if you feel like it, how NASA is a waste of money after the launch.

Updates:
-Hold has ended, T-3 hours and counting.
-Astronauts in the Astrovan heading towards the pad.
-Crew has arrived at the pad, exiting vehicle, will enter white room soon. (Looking at Shuttle right now)

Add-Ons / Auto-Jet
« on: August 08, 2008, 11:19:40 PM »
Auto-Jet allows the game to take control of your jets so you can float in the air yourself, useful for building tall buildings without making extra platforms. Just place the zip in your Add-Ons folder, restart Blockland and configure the controls in options.

Link Removed

Edit: This is the original auto-jet with several modifications such as quicker player finding, Solarflare's nicely modified version came after this.

AoT General / Port Town Enviroment Act
« on: May 15, 2006, 11:03:41 PM »
Ok, here is the plan, lets all plant fiber trees around port town, and keep on replacing them when they are ready to be harvested. This can help the community keep Port Town *customized* and welcoming for new people to age of time! Though this is useless, it can be fun if we do this right and kill people who don't replant trees after they kill them. Did I say kill? I meant argue violently.. Just an idea to be tossed out there, this could be cool if we all get this to work. (maybe badspot somehow help with trees that can't be destroyed until harvested?)

Edit: Fogive me if I should have thought this through more, it is a little late right now.
