Mapping Help / New Heightmap topic: Where do they go now?

Alright, I checked, doublechecked, rechecked...

What folder do heightmap PNGs go into? This setting seems to have changed.

They do NO LONGER go into Blockland/editor/heightscripts.

I can't get my 256x256 PNGs, which always worked, to show up in the "Load File" dialog.

Any help is appreciated.

General Discussion / Anybody playing on integrated graphics? I am!

Just wanted to share my success with very limited hardware- 15k bricks, minimal lag, running 1280x800x16 on GMA 950 (Intel 945 Express Integrated) with a C2D t5500 at 1.6Ghz and 2GB of RAM.

That means, most likely, those Atom boards can run Blockland well enough right out of the box.

Anybody else having success with integrated graphics? Please stay on topic, this is not the place to ask if you have a graphics card or not, or how to not lag.

Help / Minimum required for console server?

Just wondering, not so much hardware specs, but the software which is required. Alot of overhead can be freed by switching to Windows 2000, or even Windows 9x (Not that I would) or DOS (Which would be more likely than Win98).

I have been hosting a server now for a while, and this was a problem both with Pre-Retail Blockland and Retail:

After building, clearing, building, clearing, and so on, Blockland with a few thousand (5-ish) bricks eats up a full 811,696K RAM.

If I was to take the build, save it, and restart the server, and load the save, I know the rescources Blockland uses would be significantly less. What is one to do with a server which strives to maintain true 24/7 functionality?

Is it possible/on your to-do list to optimize whatever necessary code, or add ownership saving to the saving routine, and or add a small code snippet to allow optimization of an in-progress server?

I'd like to know if it's possible to make 2 tools...
1. A tool for Editor which can 'spray' or otherwise draw an area where Shape replications cannot exist.
2. A Blockhead weildable device which turns a small section of ground both invisable and passable, for making holes!

Either of these would help very much in my efforts for a fun server (albiet currently offline awaiting parts).

Help / Slow Dedicated networking/block-sending

Just a Q for Badspot, or anybody who is at least arm-deep in the code....

Is there any way to increase the rate at which my clients on my dedicated server receive bricks?
I have a persistence, say 70k bricks, and the bricks offscreen load before the onscreen ones, and at a rate of maybe 20-40bricks/second... Just an estimate, might be way off..... I go by what I see.

I'd just like to know, because I jsut souped up my internet, and noticed no speed boost for my clients!

I also have some numbers....
When I connect, over LAN, the connection never seems to go over 40k uploading. I have a 5MB upload cap!! LAN should be around 12.5MB!

What gives, in a nice way? :-D

1. How do I make all players spawn in "Quake" or "No Jets" player mode?

2. How do I disable spawn-bricks?

Mapping Help / Why is my grass texture all liney?

I got my own grass texture, and saved it as both a 256 and 512 sized PNG, and nomatter which I use, they look the same.... Lots of lines runing through the image. What gives?

Just a few more Q's....
Max map size?
I see the map as being 2048x2048 units....

Any way around the repeating terrain thing? What about just having no terrain after the map ends?
I believe that last one may have already been answered, but I just want to double check.

I want to make a very large "world" type map, and knowing the limits (Q1) and if I can have on-going ocean after terrain ends would help quite a bit.

There has to be some hack that can kill repeating terrain, even if it means NO terrain after the map ends.

Maybe convert terrain to an object?
