Off Topic / I have 60 dollars to spend on steam
« on: August 26, 2016, 10:42:19 PM »
I've been looking for an open world shooter type game, kind of like Homefront: Revolution or The Division, but they both have awful reviews.  Any other suggestions?

2
we both like each other and really want this to work out because otherwise we will have to meet people and form new relationships which is something we both hate doing.  We have a crapton in common and are extremely compatible, the only thing is it's kind of awkward because we are such close friends and have been for a long time so it's just weird.  Any tips on getting past this weird phase?

Suggestions & Requests / Bricks that sunlight can pass through?
« on: May 02, 2016, 09:14:58 PM »
I'm planning a film project in the near future that involves an indoor scene and I was wondering if there is any way to make a brick that is not transparent but allows light through.  I'd rather just leave the sun set at exactly 12 o clock and set the colors right and let the light pass through the ceiling rather than use Blockland's broken lights system.  Tried turning raycasting off, that doesn't do anything.

Basically MS put in this law so that business owners can refuse to serve LGBT couples on a religious basis.  IMHO this has nothing to do with explicitly refusing to serve them entirely but this law serves to protect places like bakeries that don't want to bake a gay wedding cake.  That would be in a way participating in a homoloveual wedding, which if a business owner feels religiously convicted that they should not, they should have the right to refuse that type of thing.

What do you guys think?

Forum Games / Scrabble SLAM!
« on: April 07, 2016, 12:20:37 AM »
Basically in this game you change one letter at a time to come up with a new word.

Rules
1.  You must change to an actual word
2.  Change only one letter at a time
3.  You may not add or take away letters.  Keep it to four characters.

General Discussion / Workshop support, or some other service?
« on: March 26, 2016, 04:21:39 PM »
I'm not sure if this question has been asked before, but I'm going to ask it anyway.

One of the main points of Blockland is the level of possible customization.  Very rarely do you join servers that are running complete vanilla Blockland.  Add-ons are an integral part of the game, and while installation of add-ons is simple and easy, the hardest part is simply finding the right add-ons.  RTB used to have everything categorized, and really promoted creation of new add-ons because it was so easy to find what you wanted.  Here, we have everything clumped into one board, without any way to filter for a certain category, such as weapons, vehicles, environmental files, and so on.

One of the huge advantages of using Steam Workshop is that add-on installation is made so much easier.  Everything is broken down into categories, and all it takes to download one is a simple click of the 'subscribe' button, and voila the add-on is installed and will be automatically updated every time an update is released.  What we got instead was a rushed, anticlimactic steam release that left everyone confused as to what the whole point was in the first place.  It seems now that the Steam release was never intended to revitalize the game, but instead to be a dull selling point.  All the potential that comes with the game being on Steam is left untapped.

So what do you guys think?

EDIT:  Many users in this thread have brought up some really good points as to why workshop is bad.  So what are your opinions on a system like BL Glass, or some other add-on sorting system?

Off Topic / GTA V trainer help?
« on: January 29, 2016, 03:16:57 PM »
So if any of you play GTA V on pc you are probably aware that there are a number of trainers, or cheating tools available for single player.

Well, the best one I know of is menyoo.  I like it because it lets me modify the power and torque for the cars so that they can be insanely powerful and drift a lot.  well, for some reason it crashes my game about 2 minutes in. I've tried launching it in safe mode, but it doesnt help.  If anyone can help figure this out, or knows of another trainer that allows you to modify the power and torque of the cars, I would really appreciate it.

My vids probably suck right now because I'm inexperienced as balls.

Any advice on improving the quality of my content is greatly appreciated.  Also, I'm trying to gain a following so if you know anyone who might be interested in my kind of content, feel free to share it with them, I could use the extra views.

Off Topic / loving stupidass commerCIALS AGHGHH(rant)
« on: January 14, 2016, 11:38:24 PM »
you know whats pissin me off

you know whats grindin my gears, drivin me up the wall, rattling my hornets nest?

THIS. loving. COMMERCIAL.

ok Crest, you made a stupid unfunny pun. ha ha. what a stuffty attempt at using shock value to attract the attention of your viewer.  i loving get it, i can get a hot girlfriend and all i have to do is put on some loving gay ass teeth whitening strip, even if my nose looks like ayer's rock.  What kind of man whitens his teeth anyway?  only pussies do that.  regardless, whats worse is you cant even skip the damned thing.  NO CREST I DONT CARE TO SEE YOUR handicapped ASS LAME COMMERCIAL 5 VIDEOS IN A ROW.  id rather refresh the page 50 times just so i can get a different commercial than sit through 16 more seconds of this lame, uncaptivating, cigarettegy ass bullstuff.  dont marketing experts have better things to do than make lame, unintersting puns that only work the first time, and even when they do work they dont really effectively get the point across anyways?  i mean, i know they are trying their best to make an ad that people would be willing to sit through and watch as they are separated from the video they clicked.  i get that most ads on youtube are skipped, and only really captivating ones are watched often, but this stuff?  im a young adult from bassackwards redneckland watching videos about payday 2, no i dont care about teeth whitening. my demographic is one of the least interested in teeth whitening out of all the demographics. get your stuff together crest

tl:dr crests stuffty ads piss me off.

Off Topic / BLF Stats, and what they mean for our community
« on: January 08, 2016, 10:47:20 PM »
DISCLAIMER: Disregard the stat for January 2016.  Obviously the month isn't over yet and therefore it is incomplete.  Also for some reason excel didn't copy all the months (February, April, June, August, October, December).  If I had caught this before I had uploaded all the pictures then I wouldv'e corrected it.  Lesson learned, I guess.  Regardless, you can still identify trends.  Also, this is NOT a topic saying that "bloklan is dieing o nooo", so please don't take it as one.

All of the graphs on this page are representations of the stats that can be found in the chronological list at the bottom of this page.  I made this for the purpose of brown townysis and because I wanted to see if there were any trends and what they mean for us, the Blockland community.

As you can see we have had less and less in way of topic creation over the years.  After a peak in mid 2010, it seems that we went progressively down from there.  Strangely enough, the steam release didn't seem to reverse that trend, or even cause it to plateau off.  Could it mean that the community is dying?  Lets do some more brown townysis first.

The New Posts stat is pretty much the same as New Topics, no further explanation needed.

This one is kind of hard to tell because it seems to be pretty flat apart from January 2013 through March 2014.  Despite this, if you look closely, there is a small downward trend.  This clearly indicates a slowing growth rate.

The Most Online stat seems to be pretty flat, maybe a slight downward trend if you don't count the spikes in the middle.  A little disconcerting but not really enough to make a fuss about.

And now, despite the previous downward trends, Blockland seems to be getting more traffic than ever.  Could this mean that despite all the extra exposure we are getting, we are struggling to grow as a community?  At first glance, it certainly seems that way.  There have been topics in the past addressing the harshness of our community towards new players, or people only slightly different form us.  I don't think its quite like that, though.  I think that as a whole, our users are very respectful and are great to converse with.  I think its just a few bad apples that stir up problems and make the rest of us look bad.  What do you guys think?
