Off Topic / Anyone here play hockey?
« on: January 02, 2017, 09:29:41 PM »
I got a chance skate around with a stick and puck for a while last week and it was incredibly fun. Was wondering if anyone here plays hockey? I'd like to get into it a bit, not really sure where to start tho.

<--- This is me on the ice.

Off Topic / Snapchat introduced their Spectacles today...
« on: November 11, 2016, 08:41:30 PM »

They're glasses that record stuff and save it to your Snapchat Memories. Only place youy could get them was at this kiosk somewhere that was selling them for $130. They're going for many, many times that on Ebay because of they're exclusitivity. IDK, they're kinda cool but not worth $130 IMO. I probably wouldn't wear them.

Off Topic / Does this short-story concept suck?
« on: November 10, 2016, 09:51:35 AM »
So it opens to a scene of a two characters fighting. They exchange some words, take some swings at each other, and then one of them trips. It cuts to the next seen, where the same thing happens again, this time with subtle differences, but this time they go farther than did, then one of the obviously says the wrong word. Then it cuts again to the same scene, repeating what already happened, but again with subtle differences. They get even farther than the last two scenes. This time, one of them delivers the fatal blow. Then it cuts to the directors, saying "Cut, that's a wrap! Good work guys." The point is that it wouldn't be obvious that it's a movie shoot until the end where the director talks.

I feel like it's a cool plot twist, but I feel like it might be a boring story. Thoughts?

This is for a writing project for school, has to be around 1200 words.

I'm taking it for the third time on October 22. I've already scored a 27 and a 26.  I've been doing some studying lately. I did a practice test and got a 31, and I still have some time to improve that...

Anyone else taking it soon?

Off Topic / Just got contacts but they don't feel quite right...
« on: October 08, 2016, 11:13:09 PM »
When I was at the fitting, they went in and felt fine. I took them home, wore them for several hour and was fine. The next day, I got home from work and tried to wear them, but it felt obvious that something was in my eye and there was a every faint burning sensation. So I took them out. Today, same thing.

Both times when I tried to clean them, I kept noticing very small particles of something coming off the contacts (like tiny hairs or something), so I'm thinking I just wasn't cleaning them enough? Idk, is this normal for new contact wearers? I don't want to damage my eyes.

Off Topic / Miami Marlin's Ace Jose Fernandez Killed in Boating Accident

This dude was the quite the pitcher. Only 24 years old, two time All-Star, 2013 NL Rookie of the Year. Sad to see him go so soon. Many think he had a good shot at the Baseball Hall-of-Fame someday.

Rest in peace.

I wouldn't normally do this, but I'm really torn here.

Ok, so I have a job. I make 9/hour, and currently working between 13-15 hours a week. I have around $2.5k in the bank, and I want to get a car eventually. This means I'm bringing in around $440 a month, with maybe $40/per month spent on food.

Thing is, I have a host of other things I want too, and I can't decide if some of them are worth it.
  • I would like to get a decent acoustic electric guitar, and I'm thinking no more than around $300 for that. I can do that.
  • But I also want to upgrade my phone, and I wanna get something really good, so I'm thinking $400 at most.
  • There's a pair of shoes I would like to get, and my boss got me a $10 Target gift card for my birthday, but that would still be around $30 out of pocket.
  • And I would like to get some nice speakers for my computer setup, so maybe $50?
  • Lastly my church is doing a youth trip up to Wisconsin at the end of the year, and that's going to be $250, but I think I can convince my parents to help pay for part, so maybe like $150?

All of this comes out to around $930, and of course it wouldn't all be spent at once.

I'm just having a hard time deciding if at this point in my life (senior looking to go to college out of state next fall working part time) if these things are worth it.... On one had, what's the point of having money if you never spend it. On the other, I do need to plan for the future and save, and all this adds up to quite the  decent sum of money. Thoughts?

Off Topic / I took the order of a MLB pitcher today at work.
« on: September 02, 2016, 05:55:29 PM »
/blogland

So as some of you may or may not remember, I work at Chick Fil A. Today I was outside taking orders in drive-thru when Saint Louis Cardinal's pitcher Michael Wacha pulls up. There were like 5 of us out there and I got lucky, I got to take his order. I ask for names cause I gotta input that info, so I asked and he said Michael. After that it clicked and I realized who he was. I asked "Michael Wacha?" and he nodded.

So yeah that was the coolest thing that's happened to me at work. /endblogland

YEAH I'M 17 BOY AND IT'S ACTUALLY NOT AT ALL EXCITING.

So, don't buy me any games on my wishlist, cause I'll probably only play them for like an hour. BUT I DO HAVE ONE REQUEST. Could someone get me American Truck Simulator if you're feeling generous? Cause I will play the HECK out of that game.

I cleared my friend's list (NOTHING PERSONAL AGAINST ANYONE) and I work until 4 central time so I'll have to add you later but yeah. So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Off Topic / Question about dual-monitor gaming.
« on: June 28, 2016, 04:38:05 PM »
So, I've got two monitors in a vertical setup. I want to play games on the main monitor (lower one) and have the second one just extend my view up. I could use AMD settings to trick games into thinking that there's just one monitor, but then it shifts the whole game off center. Anyone know of anyway to just extend it without shifting the view?

Off Topic / I got a new bike, and it's awesome.
« on: June 18, 2016, 09:24:11 PM »

This is the highest end bike I've ever had. Uses an On One frame, the previous owner built it up from the ground I believe. Dude obviously knew bikes pretty well. He converted it from the a single speed to a 2x8 16 speed configuration, and it's only had a round 30 miles since then. Listed on craigslist today, my dad noticed it, and several hours and $300 later it's sitting in my basement.

Total upgrade from my last bike, which was OK. But this one is sooo much lighter and with the slimmer wheels (and different gear ratios) it's a breeze to ride.

This is my old bike.

If you wanna skip the first part it starts around 2:35 in, but the whole thing is worth listening to IMO.

Louis continues to press the question after Donald doesn't answer. It was amazing. Listen to it.

Games / Worth waiting for Summer sale for American Truck Simulator?
« on: June 07, 2016, 01:44:26 PM »
It's normally $20, but 20% ATM has it at $16. Would a fairly new yet popular game like that go a lot lower during steam sales?

Any suggestions? Budget is fairly loose, but definitely no more than $150, and I would prefer a little less than that.

I plan to use them for a wide variety of music listening and some gaming, so a fairly balanced audio is preferred. Also, for me, comfort and build quality is very important, and I'm willing to sacrifice on the sound for those a little bit.

So yeah, any suggestions? I still have a little time, but I don't really know where to start.
