Alright, I improved this song a lot and gave it a new name. Please tell me what you think. I'm open to feedback and I won't get all defensive as long as you have some good criticism for me. Thanks for listening and making it all worthwhile.

Games / Half-Life 2 Cinematic Mod
« on: August 10, 2009, 10:03:01 AM »
Makes HL2 look more up-to-date with high res textures, HD models, improved sounds, bloom, hdr, and an amazing cinematic soundtrack. The HD character models are in a separate package called the "v9 HD addon". This mod also ports everything to the superior orange box engine.

Mind blown?
Mind blown.

I just downloaded this last night. Highly recommended.

Optional HD package:

- FileFront doesn't host the V9 Base and I can't find any Americana mirrors. Just download from the GameArena mirror for now, or look for your own mirror. Do tell me if you find one.
- GameArena *disabled* the HD package for some reason (more likely no reason) and I can't find any Australiana mirrors. I've contacted them asking them to enable it and I will post the link as soon as it's available.
- 9.5 was never released as a standalone client. You must download the 9.0 base and the 9.5 patch.

"WTF! It's not on my games list!"
Because Steam forgets with stuff and messes it up, you need to launch it from the shortcut you should find in Start >> All Programs >> FAKEFACTORY CM9. The steam overlay will remain functional.

Off Topic / Finger Positioning
« on: August 08, 2009, 06:52:14 AM »
So I've been playing games with my fingers positioned like this for my whole life and I'm pretty sure it's "wrong". That is;

Middle finger on A,
index finger on W,
thumb on D

It works for me though, so I guess it doesn't matter. How do you position yours?

edit: haha, clearly my positioning is handicapped.

So my friend showed me this video and I thought it was hilarious, especially the way he talks. It's just a video of some guy called Chad Warden preaching about the PS3 or "PS Triple".

Games / The Sourcemod Thread
« on: June 23, 2009, 12:00:01 PM »
Intro
I've made a few threads showing you some of my favourite sourcemods. I want to show more without spamming threads left and right, so therefore I have created this directory to all the good ones. More will be added as I get more free time to spend on completing it. These mods require you to already own a game on the source engine.

Examples:
CSS
HL2
L4D
TF2
DoD:S

Sourcemods are free.
Note: Rather than absolutely rape you with screenshots, links will be provided to each mod's media galleries.

Teamplay

Pirates, Vikings & Knights
http://www.pvkii.com/
This game features an excellent melee system with 6 classes (so far) suited to different playing styles. While most deathmatch games have two teams, this has three which adds a bit of a twist to gameplay. The classes currently available are as follows:

Pirates
Skirmisher
Captain

Vikings
Huscarl
Berserker

Knights
Archer
Heavy Knight

The combat system is somewhat similar to Oblivion's, and the graphics are excellent.

Empires Mod
http://www.empiresmod.com/
This is arguably the most professional mod out there at the moment. This game is set in a semi-futuristic setting, where the world has been divided into two factions; the Northern Faction and the Brenodi Empire who are both at war for some reason (the website has an incredibly detailed plot I believe, if you care to read it). The maps are huge and gameplay is reminiscent of the Battlefield series. There's plenty of vehicles with hopes to implement aircraft in the future, and the infantry combat is quite fun. Now, the unique aspect of this game that distinguishes it from the rest of the mods is that each faction is controlled by one player who assumes the role of commander. The commander controls the team through an RTS style overview of the map. From there, the commander may develop bases by placing buildings and defensive auto-turrets for the team's engineers to construct as well as selecting and ordering units (teammates on the battlefield, who are playing it as an fps) to attack enemies or defend your buildings or strategic points. There are even technologies to research in order to improve vehicles. Ah, yes. That brings me to another cool feature of this mod; vehicle customization. Players may build vehicles at vehicle factories and select the weapons, amount and type of armor, and type of engine they want depending on what is available with the current technology. There's a lot of depth to this game and I'm sure there's a lot that I've missed, which is probably a good thing because this is already a huge chunk of text. Better add a tl;dr.

tl;dr Very cool FPSRTS.

Fistful of Frags
http://www.fistful-of-frags.com/

Fistful of Frags is a western shooter, not to be confused with the western/zombie mod "Shotgun Sunrise". It's got plenty of old-timey weapons including a couple of different revolvers (Can be dual wielded), a few rifles, shotguns, throwable knives and axes and even bows and deringers.

As you get kills, find loot, complete objectives or participate in teamwork you will be awarded "notoriety" which are used to buy weapons, special ammo and perks for your loadout. Unlike games like CS:S, you do not have to buy weapons every time you die. You will always spawn with your selected loadout. Weapons can be deselected in the loadout GUI to use your notoriety on other weapons. Notoriety is reset at every map change.

Graphics and level design are great, gameplay is fun. Quite good stuff.

Zombie Survival

Zombie Panic: Source
http://www.zombiepanic.org/site/index.php
Official trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGf2UImghPk

I've spent a lot of time playing this one and I might go as far as to say it's my all-time favorite. The concept is simple; at the start of each round one player will be randomly selected (or opt in) as the "carrier"; an enhanced zombie that does more damage and has a little more health than standard zombies, as well as having a chance to infect survivors when it gets a hit in. Some maps require the survivors to complete objectives while other just require them to survive, and as each of them die they will become zombies. This makes each round become progressively harder as your former friends become your enemies.

Zombie Master
http://www.zombiemaster.org/

This is another great mod for zombie fans. The main difference here between ZPS and ZM is that ZM has computer controlled zombies. These are spawned and directed by one player, who takes the role of "Zombie Master". The Zombie Master has a RTS overview, similar to Empires Mod. Maps often have special traps which can be triggered by the ZM such as props that can topple over and injure survivors, electrical sparks from damaged wiring or even trains to take out survivors caught on the tracks in this one particular map. It's good fun and worth playing. The only problem is that once you die as a survivor, you're stuck in spec mode until the next round.

Zombie Mod: Source
http://zombiemodsource.info/

This is the newest of the zombie mods. I haven't played this one since the earliest stages but from what I've seen this looks to be quite promising. One of my favourite features in games is ironsights and ZM:S has just that. There's a few game modes, both player vs player based and player vs AI based so the variety is there. There were some weapon balancing issues that needed ironing out, but I think these are probably sorted by now. Maybe not the best mod out there yet but potentially awesome in future. I'll be watching this one closely.

[More to be added soon, do check back for updates.]

Games / Cowboys AND zombies? It's more likely than you think.
« on: June 21, 2009, 12:26:08 AM »
So I stumbled across this sourcemod called "Shotgun Sunrise". It's a co-operative western shooter with AI-controlled zombies. The game takes place in a single huge map of the town "Shotgun", and you drive around with your friends in a truck capping zombies and completing objectives.

Anyway, I tried it with Solar earlier today and I found that while some aspects lack polish it's a really fun co-op experience.

The game actually needs a minimum of two players to complete, so make sure you have a friend download it with you if you are going to try it.

Edit:
Download link: http://www.moddb.com/mods/shotgun-sunrise/downloads

hao2install:
1. Extract the downloaded rar onto your desktop
2. Drag the Shotgun Sunrise folder into sourcemod folder (default C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\sourcemod)
3. Restart Steam.
4. Profit.
might be able to just extract SS into sourcemod folder and just restart steam from there

Games / Pirates, Vikings and Knights II - A free mod for HL2.
« on: June 07, 2009, 01:33:31 PM »
http://www.pvkii.com/

This is one of my favorite source mods. Features some of the best melee combat I've played.
Try it out, it's like a 460mb download.

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWwr0r_q_-U

It's quite profesh. The animations are great, as are the models. They even went to the trouble for doing facial animations for the taunts. What I also love about the game is the maps.
I should probably warn you though, the game is not incredibly active because it's not very well publicized at the moment. It's not a huge problem though, there's always a few people playing. I never have trouble finding a server with like 6 people. Some of you may be familiar with the popular mod Age of Chivalry, which is a medieval warfare mod. I've only played it briefly, but I think that pvk is more fun imo. Anyway, give me a try. I'm Cruncheez on steam if you want to play.

Currently, there are two classes for each faction. More are planned, but I'm not sure if they will ever get around to it.

Pirates
Skirmisher
Captain

Vikings
Huscarl
Berserker

Knights
Archer
Heavy Knight

Screenshots!

Do tell me what you think. I'm trying to grow its community a bit, because this mod deserves to be played more.  :cookieMonster:

I was loving around on Iceblue's server when this dude who I have never seen before or talked to started PMing me over RTB. I knew what he wanted and decided to play along for your entertainment. So, without further ado -

Note - I am 15/male. Lol.
