Add-Ons / Simple RPChat
« on: December 29, 2017, 02:09:29 PM »

This is a feature from my work in progress LifeRP gamemode, but I thought it would be useful as a standalone add-on.

This is an RP chat system that is easier to use and doesn't require a bunch of commands just to use different chat modes.

Start your chat message with < to whisper.
End your chat message with ! to shout.

Change your rp name using /setname
You can provide a first, middle, and last name.

You can also set a nickname using /setnickname

The names you set will appear in chat, admins can control which ones by changing a pref. There are 5 possible options:
- Username (basically no rp name system)
- Nickname
- Firstname
- Firstname Middlename Lastname
- Firstname "Nickname" Middlename Lastname

After chatting, your name and message will appear in 3d space. People who can hear you will have a !!! indicator show up on them and will see your message in chat.

Talk in normal chat to talk into RPChat.
Talk in team chat to talk OOC.
This can be flipped by changing a pref, making normal chat ooc and team chat rpchat.

OOC chat is exactly like default unmodded chat, except you gain an additional (OOC) tag next to your message.

As with most chat mods, this will likely be very incompatible with other mods that change how chat works. Talking OOC should be a bit more compatible though.

This uses fake shapename code by Carbon Zypher, the script uses this for the text that appears in 3d space.

General Discussion / Thoughts on Crown's CityRPG?
« on: December 26, 2017, 08:48:47 AM »
I played it for a bit. I thought it would be somewhat of a big deal, crown hosting something else. But I couldn't really find any blockland forum topic about it. I wanted to discuss it a bit, and bring up some of my criticisms. I did a bit of this ingame already, though i was kind of talking to just myself and it was in an aggressive tone admittedly. I don't know if crown was planning on making a topic already, but here goes. I may lock this in the future if it's deemed unnecessary.

I wont express my opinions on the server in the OP here, because I don't want to make the posts lean towards one topic or another. I'll make a post later with my criticisms and opinions.

So, try playing a bit of it. Post about how you feel about the server, any opinions/criticisms, etc.

Add-Ons / [Server Script] Vehicle Brick Movement Flipping v2
« on: November 09, 2017, 01:22:09 PM »

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xx2vTvm4gNM

This is a server script that enables players to rotate vehicles they're driving by making use of their ghost brick movement controls.

Originally made as part of an upgrade to FASTKarts' flip feature, but I thought it was so cool that it deserved to be a standalone add-on.

You can control the force of the flipping with an RTB pref.

Faces, Decals, Prints / Gravestone Prints
« on: August 07, 2017, 03:36:19 AM »
I made some prints that work perfectly with More Gravestones, but they'll still work with any brick that uses 1x1 aspect ratio prints.

I made these pretty quickly to demonstrate the gravestone print bricks, but I'm sure they still have some use.

Add-Ons / More Gravestones v3
« on: August 07, 2017, 03:22:14 AM »
I've made an update for one of my old add-ons, More Gravestones!

This add-on adds 5 more variants of gravestones:
  • Gravestone No Cross
  • Gravestone Print new!
  • Gravestone Block
  • Gravestone Block No Cross
  • Gravestone Block Print new!

Style fits perfectly with the default gravestone brick, and any 1x1 print will work with the gravestone print bricks.

Suggestions & Requests / Classic new game gui concept
« on: July 20, 2017, 05:35:36 PM »
Last year, I made some concepts of a window-style new game gui. I thought I might as well show them off since I haven't been doing anything with them.

Classic style:

Nearly the same as v20's new game gui. Some gui element positional changes would need to be done since it's showing gamemodes and not maps.

Modern style:

This one is meant to replicate v21's gui, but in a window.

These were done with an image editing program, so I don't have any gui files to give away. Still, would be nice to see this concept be made. The server settings gui was made into a window by blockland glass, so the only thing that remains is the new game gui. It's really weird that the new game gui has this "metro" style while every other gui in the game uses windows. Personally I feel windows are easier to deal with, so hence these concepts. Feel free to discuss.

Add-Ons / Modified ModTer v2
« on: June 29, 2017, 01:06:05 PM »
Remember this? https://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=265681

No? ...okay :(

This is a remake of the original add-on. I had to remake it because I actually lost it and had no backups.

Features:
  • ModTer Bricks are now in an all new "ModTer" section in the brick selector. The baseplates section is no longer cluttered.
  • Prints applied to 4x ModTer bricks are now in correct proportions with larger ModTer bricks.

Improvements over original:
  • It is now its own add-on, you no longer need to replace the default modter add-ons. Activate it and you're good to go.
  • Now supports Siba's modter bricks. (only category changes, no uv changes yet)
  • Original 4x modter is now restored as "legacy" 4x modter. Use these to make signs and stuff.

Version 2:
  • Now fully customisable through RTB prefs! Pick and choose which fixes and changes you want.
  • Now includes Demians Inverted Modter Fix, without the need to replace default add-ons!

Modification Help / Top-Down Dungeon Gamemode Concept
« on: March 06, 2017, 06:16:28 AM »
This is something I put together as a "proof of concept." It makes use of the unused setWorldSpaceMovement function and the 2DCamera events.

You don't need to download any add-ons, this is plug and play/standalone.
http://piber20.com/d/bl/GameMode_Dungeon_Concept.zip

I plan to expand this idea into a mixture of Pit of 100 Trials, Zelda, and The Binding of Isaac.

How does the gameplay feel? Do you think I can pull this off in a better way? Has something like this ever been done with Blockland? Anything else come to your mind? Feel free to give some ideas/suggestions/criticism, or use this as a base for your own top-down gamemode, I don't mind.

Add-Ons / Modified Grapple Rope and Puller Rope
« on: February 13, 2017, 06:46:09 AM »
These were featured in my DeathMatch GameMode.

Modified Grapple Rope
This is an updated version of the classic grapple rope that has some neat additions:

- Fixed console errors.
- Rope has been "nerfed" to prevent hanging/stalling. It slowly increases in length over time.
- Raycasts are now used, resulting in instant grapples over great distances.

"Veteran" grapple rope users may need to adjust a bit, but I feel the benefits greatly outweigh the cons.

Video of grapple rope in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GF72UsznN4s

Download: http://piber20.com/d/bl/e/Tool_GrappleRope.zip

Puller Rope
This is a small edit of the Grapple Rope that "pulls" players by making the rope shorter over time. It can be used alongside the Grapple Rope without any conflicts.

Help / Invalid packet GameBase::unpackUpdate() when it rains/snows
« on: January 31, 2017, 06:59:26 PM »
My dedicated server has a gamemode with a map rotator that is very similar to SpeedKart, environment changes included. Right when the environment is about to change to one with rain or snow, I get disconnected with this error.

Invalid packet GameBase::unpackUpdate()

This part of the console.log seems to be important:
Code: [Select]
NetConnection::ghostReadPacket - object failed to register!
Connection error: Invalid packet GameBase::unpackUpdate().
Issuing Disconnect packet.

I don't know why this is happening or how to fix it. It's annoying because it effectively blocks me from my server when there is precipitation.

Nobody else in the server is being kicked out from this, and I've cleared the cache in my client install multiple times and have even started from a fresh install, so I am very confused.

Game Modes / FASTKarts v10
« on: December 17, 2016, 02:38:15 PM »
The FASTKarts gamemode is more than just your standard everyday speedkart edit, a lot more than adding /boombox was done here. Many features have been ported from my DeathMatch gamemode to this, and this took lots of effort to get working nicely by all parties involved.

Full credits can be viewed ingame with the /fkCredits command. There's a lot of integrated add-ons and code files.
I wasn't the one who did the karts. I made the bulk of the gamemode's code.

Features
Type /help into the ingame chat and it will provide you with a list of commands to help you use these features.

Improved physics and handling
The karts now require a level of skill to control, and each kart has different stats making some karts faster but harder to use. The normal SpeedKart is recommended for first time players, to adjust to the new handling. Physics breakouts are rare, and you will almost never get launched into nothingness.

The engine sounds and horns can also be disabled, along with some other neat settings which really makes the karts more open to hosts.
See this topic for the discussion of the overhauled karts: https://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=305430.0

Superkarts merged
The superkarts have been merged into the gamemode, and adjusted to work alongside the speedkarts as if they were just more variants. Even the plane and jetski got some attention, though they look quite silly.

You can enable or disable any kart from being picked.

If you so wish, you can completely reverse these kart changes and force the gamemode to load the default SpeedKarts instead. In that case they load directly from the speedkart gamemode's files, so your clients would have shorter load times too.

Flipping
There is a /flip command that literally flips your vehicle over, which is very useful if you got your kart upsidedown somehow. Pressing your brick planting key will also spam this command, effectively allowing you to do some sik trix.

Expanded Track Features
Features have been ported over from my DeathMatch gamemode. You can vote to change the track, you can disable track map rotation or even make it rotate randomly instead of in order. There is also a new event that lets you select any speedkart without needing to have a crazy spawn area. You can also color your kart with your paint can. Tracks can also have laps, by use of typing a number into the winRace event, this also brings you a new input event called onWinRace, which will be called for every brick once the race has been won.

Helpful bottom print
A bottom print has been added which displays the round, the track, the time, and your lap.

Random rounds - Must enable it
Each round can have different gameplay styles. The "normal" round gives you a set of novelty items that do nothing. The "rocket" round however turns the round into a game of deathkart, allowing your players to fire rockets at each other. The "bouncy" is a nice escape from normal gameplay, allowing your players to break the maps (all in good fun) as a fast bouncy playertype. This is not recommended for "serious" servers though.

Zonebricks
My own overhauled flavor of zonebricks have been integrated into the gamemode, allowing for more complex mechanics in your tracks. This also enables tracks to have an actual working finish line, instead of requiring the player to leave their kart.

Cooler deaths - Individual parts can be disabled
Server_PGDie has been merged with the 007 death sounds bringing you some cooler death effects which should make deaths more entertaining.

Achievements - Can be disabled
An achievements system has been integrated into the gamemode, providing challenges for your players. The achievements will work without any client mod.

Music support - Must enable it
The gamemode includes commands that lets you play music from your player. You don't need to edit the gamemode to load music, you can actually load music from your custom gamemode!

Everything else you need is integrated into the gamemode's code files, except for the default add-ons, which you should have already.

Ingame, you can set the gamemode up to load more addons, and the NewDuplicator will be automatically detected and loaded as well.

Check out these standalone versions of stuff found in this gamemode:

You must have at least 1 track, otherwise you're going to be racing in an endless ocean which does not change ever, which is not fun. See below for a whole bunch of maps.

Add-Ons / Bypass Vehicle Color Trust
« on: December 11, 2016, 08:58:46 PM »
Server script that lets you color any vehicle with your spray can without needing trust. Made for speedkart edits, though works without being in one.

If you're using this in a speedkart gamemode, be sure to enable the paint can and perhaps add an item to the spawn inventory so the players can stop holding the paint can when they're done.

Only works with WheeledVehicle and FlyingVehicle classes.

Add-Ons / Choose Vehicle Event v2
« on: December 10, 2016, 03:52:18 PM »

Displays the wrench vehicle spawn menu to the player and lets them choose what vehicle to spawn. Choosing NONE will despawn the vehicle.

The event features a drop down menu which lets you choose if you want to restrict the event to only allowing speedkarts. If the player picks other vehicles, it will be ignored. Meant to be used with modified speedkart gamemodes with modified maps.

Based on code from Script_SetMusic, which is similar to /boombox and /stereo.

Add-Ons / Event_setWorldSpaceMovement
« on: December 09, 2016, 02:58:40 PM »

Your forward movement key moves you north, your backward movement key moves you south, left strafe = west, right strafe = east.

It was a default function that was left completely unused until now as far as I know. Movement speeds have also been "fixed" so moving south for example wouldn't be slower than moving north.

Use it with set2DCamera.

You should also use it with a playertype that restricts players from looking up or down, like the Top Down Player.

Add-Ons / Chat Emotes Restored v9
« on: December 04, 2016, 10:52:24 PM »
Original Topic (and add-on) by Port

This is a fix and overhaul of the server version of Chat Emotes by Port to work with v21 and be more user friendly.

Firstly, a hacky way to force clients to download the emotes were introduced (and confirmed to work by Mr.Jmorra79 in testing), as decalData is no longer a thing in v21. I've made dummy particles that (shouldn't) show up in the emitter selector. Their only purpose is to force the downloads.
This means everyone who downloads textures will be able to see the emotes.

Second, I've changed the syntaxing. Instead of the weird [](/whatever), you now type :whatever:.
You can type :cookieMonster: with the Blockland Forums pack and it'll work.
Code: [Select]
:cookieMonster:
Thirdly, the way emotes are added to servers have been overhauled. They are now packaged and added to your Add-Ons folder like add-ons.

Lastly, there are now server commands that displays lists of emotes. Type /listEmotes into chat to get started.

This project was started when Original asked me about emote packs. He helped to test in the early stages. (it wasn't going so well)

Emote Packs
These are packs of emotes ready to be used. Place them into your add-ons folder like you would any add-on. Note: They are activated automatically, they do not show up in the custom game gui's add-on list.

(more will be added to this list as I become aware of them and links are given)

In addition to all that, you can use any glass icons and RTB icons as emotes, as long as you have them. Everything inside:
System_BlocklandGlass/image/icon
and inside:
System_ReturnToBlockland/images/icons
is now a usable chat emote. Other players will however also need them to see them.
To use these emotes, you type :glass[imagename]: or :rtb[imagename]:

If you don't want to download RTB or Glass, here are packs of icons from those system add-ons that you must unzip directly into your add-ons folder:
The glass icons may be out of date, and I strongly recommend installing Glass' icons yourself from the most recent Glass version if you very desparately do not want Blockland Glass itself.

At the very least, you can use some blockland default CI and UI as chat emotes.

WARNING: To bypass <bitmap:filepath> stuff being removed from default chat, I had to edit blockland's source code, and not parent. There may be some really bad incompatabilities with other mods that mess with chat. Any suggestions on how to make this mod more compatable are welcome, as well as links to mods that are known to be incompatable.
HOWEVER, this "rebuilt" chat only appears if an emote is used. The mod lets normal chat take over if it detects no emotes, or a link, being sent in the chat message.

Creating Emote Packs
Grab your favorite .png images, preferably some small ones, and shove them into a .zip folder.
Create a description.txt with anything in it. The server mod will not see it as an emote pack otherwise.
Name the emote pack something like "ChatEmotes_My_Cool_Emote_Pack" and you should be good.
