Off Topic / AntiVirus Software
« on: September 27, 2016, 10:58:29 AM »
Hey guys,

So I'm looking into getting done AntiVirus software for my laptop.  It came with a free trial of some odd crap, but that expired.  Is there anything free and online I can use?  What are your recommendations?

Off Topic / Lancelot becomes Level 21
« on: August 30, 2016, 06:12:48 PM »
Today is the celebration of my day of birth.  I am turning 21, but I don't drink alcohol, so it isn't all that extraordinary.  Anyway, just wanted to thank the forums for being here for me to lurk on for 8+ years.. Can't wait for more good, weird times.  I love you guys <3

Also, I just got a great new laptop that I love dearly last week, so uh, I don't know, but if you have any spare games in your holster, I would be pretty stoked to take them off your hands.  I will also give you my first-barn.  Yes, you read that correctly.  I will give you the first barn that I build.  I'll just drop my Steam on here, even if you don't have anything to gift, I'd love to have more BL friends on there.

Steam: TheloveyTurtle

Much love <3

Off Topic / Recommended Laptops?

Hey team.

I haven't posted in quite a while, just been lurking about, but I am needing some help.  I figured that I've seen quite a few of you with a lot of technical prowess so.. no better place to come. besides like.. consumer reports idk

I am in need of a laptop.  I'll be going back to college after serving a religious mission for a couple years, and the laptop that I was using prior to that is no longer available.  Ideally I would like to not only get something that can run basic functions that I'll need for school, but also able to handle most games.  What do you people recommend, and why?  Links are also appreciated.

Thanks for the help!

Edit: From some research I've been doing, I've been looking at this.  What are your thoughts?

General Discussion / The Taking of Isar
« on: April 19, 2016, 06:09:31 PM »
Some of you may remember a neat little Blockland miniseries created by IcyGamma, "The Taking of Isar".  It was created back in early 2011.

OLD THREAD

Anyway, it has since been removed from Youtube.  I was thinking about watching it again..  I was wondering if anyone had it stashed away or knew of a place to watch it.

Thanks muchly.

Suggestions & Requests / Natural Fade to Music
« on: April 15, 2016, 04:31:09 PM »
Not sure if this is capable with the capabilities of the game.. but.. here goes.

There you are, casually walking along the street.  It is silent, with the exception of some brick-placing or hammering or.. who knows what.  All of the sudden, you pass an invisible threshold.. KABLAM!  Your ears/speakers are assaulted with some form of musical pish-posh!  It isn't natural.

What I am looking for is some way to have the musical slowly fade in, the closer you get to it.  It's like "oh, what is that music?" Then it slowly increases in volume as you move closer, or quieter as you move away.  The way that sound seems to work in, you know, real life.

Thoughts?  Is this even possible?

Simple game:  All you have to do is write down one or two words that come to your mind when looking at the above post.

Example:

Bot A: Moon
Bot B: Werewolf
Bot C: Vampire
Bot D: Blood

and so on..

Suggestions & Requests / Short Range Music Bricks
« on: April 29, 2014, 12:45:48 PM »
Something like the ones Chrono made a while ago, with a 1/2 range and a 1/4 range.  Also, it would be cool to have one with more of a horizontal range, like only 16x vertical but 64x or 48x across?  I don't know if that is possible, but it would be cool.

Forum Games / Roll to Dodge v6 - I updated omg
« on: September 11, 2013, 02:15:38 PM »
Roll to Dodge

Roll to Dodge is a fun game where you normally play with a group of (5) people.  Think Dungeons and Dragons in a sense. You will be placed in a certain scenario, and you (may) be given a certain objective. Now here's the catch, for nearly every action you make, a die will determine the outcome.

The numbers on the six sided die are marked as such...
1) Epic fail
2) Kinda fail
3) Kinda success
4) Success
5) Perfect success
6) Overshot

For example:

Todd wants to light a fire.

5 would have the fire burn perfectly, at a good size.

1, the fire would not light one single bit.

6, he lights it, but he burns his arm as it ignites too fast.

3, it burns but proves to not be reliable and the fire will die out soon.

I'm sure you can get what the rest of the numbers represent.

Rules!
Only 5 people may play at a time.
-This is based on a first come first served basis
-If you did not make it in time, I can still add you to the waiting list
-I would like to keep this game moving at a good pace, so you will have 2 days max to take your turn or you will be removed from the game and the first person on the waiting list will take your spot
-If you have a legitimate excuse for an absence, then your spot will be frozen until you come back.

This game will use the declare system. You declare your move, then when everyone's move has been declared, they are all taken, the die is rolled, and results are decided.
-I will not post results of the actions until everyone has taken their turn

-Other minor actions may be used with your major action (look around, talk, ect)
-Observing your surrounding will not be effected by the die
-Talking to players will not be effected by the die

You may kill or be killed by players or your actions
-Be weary of what you do, if you attempt to kill another player early in the game and fail, the results can have devastating results
-Attempting to do something stupid can lead to a very funny death
-You can pretty much do anything you want, but the more insane thing you do, the more chance of death of you have.  For example: "Pick some berries" has little to no chance of death, whereas "Learn to fly" has a higher risk factor, since it has a better gain if you win.

Certain events can affect your next roll
-If you do something with perfect success there may be a chance your roll, or everyone's roll, can be increased by +X amount, or be predetermined
-The same can be applied if you have an epic failure, only your roll will have -X amount
-If a certain action affects a body part, then any action requiring that body part will be affected (Tim's arms are broken, -3 to any action used by his arms)
-The same can have positive attributes

PLAYERS:
1. childofdarkness016
2. Darkmario765
3. Ben Watts
4. Gojira
5. masterockets

WAITLIST:
1. Tomcat
2. Deoxys and One Noob

This is my 3824th post, which may not seem like a big deal, but is, because that number is also my BL ID.  I don't post very often, considering I've been here for over 4 years, so this is a cool moment for me.

I just wanted to thank all of you out there for being such a great and interesting forum to be a part of.  I look forward to many more years with you all, and seeing all the great things that come from the forum.

Forum Games / The Game - Reborn [Round 1 begins]
« on: July 08, 2012, 12:06:32 AM »
thanks to tetris
you dont have to read all this stuff below but its kind of helpful, so read it you lazy punks

Summary
When RedGajin was a little kid, he and some kids used to play this game they came up with themselves called The Game. The gist was that you chose characters and fought in random arenas, scenarios, duels, or anything you could think of. There was no theme, there was no aim to the game, there was no story, we went with it as we went along. You could upgrade the characters which the "gamemaker" or whatever you wanted to call him, would come up with, along with what you would be doing. No limit to what your character could be either, you can have a laser shooting robot in the same room as a sword-wielding knight, it didn't matter. Only 8 players will be playing, as its hard to fit more then that into the game.

Gameplay

This is Roll-to-Dodge, which is when you state an action, I roll a 6 sided dice which chooses how successful you are. Success rate is:
1-2: Very nice
3-4: Objective may have been completed, but not with desired results
5-6: Objective is probably not completed and you receive some kind of penalty

And if your move is something idiotic, that will affect your success too.

First off, you start with one character, which you will choose from the list below. That character will start off weak, and as you do more battles you level up. When I played it, you started out with fists or knives, but I don't know if I want to do that.

Once you choose your character, you are put into an arena, a mission (ex: d-day mission or something), or you duel against another player or AI. There are also boss battles which instantly level you up.

After each round, you get upgrade points.  You can spend these on various stuff.  Details are further down the page.

Arenas are themed to who you are fighting, if you are fighting pirates it might be a ship with sharks in the water. Duels are always random maps, and boss battles are enemy-themed as well. Missions have their own maps, obviously. Players can be fighting players controlled by me, or each other. Sometimes you will get to choose what arena you would like, but most the time it will be chosen by mua. You will also lose some matches, so don't complain about that.

(Probably) every level someone will draw out stuffty maps so you can get a general feel, however I wont be doing art for everything

Leveling/Upgrades

Every round fought you are closer to upgrading, which can give you abilities, weapons, upgraded weapons, or a new character slot. When you reach level 5, you can have a second character who starts at level 1. Upgrade themes are as follows. When you choose to spend a point on a WEAPON, PERK, ITEM, or ARMOR, you do NOT choose what you get, I choose for you. This is what makes the game more interesting and easier to handle.

Ability Points - Every level up, youget a certain amount of ability points, these can be put towards a new ability (perk) or upgrading one, a new weapon or upgrading one, or armor or upgrading your current armor. When you want a new thing for any section and you are maxed out, you must swap out an old thing for it.

Weapon - Ability points can be put toward weapons, which cost one point. This allows your character to get new weapons that correspond to their theme (a Navy SEAL would get a smg or something). Or, you can upgrade your current weapon to be better, when you decide on this, it could be any upgrade ranging from damage to speed. YOU ONLY GET 3 WEAPONS AT A TIME,

Perks - Each character is unique, and when you get a new perk, its also unique. These also cost 1 point. Perks can be anything, maybe you get a soldier to fight alongside you, maybe you get a shield bearer, maybe its a catapult, maybe it is a short period of rage time. Whatever it is, its pretty badass. You can upgrade a current perk to be better (there is a limit, mind you, after a very large amount of upgrade points are spent.  If you spend a ton on one, it can be a pretty crazy perk) or get a new one. YOU ONLY GET 5 PERKS AT A TIME.

For Perks, if your player wants to achieve and action that I don't state he can do and doesn't seem like something anyone can do easily, he CANT do it, its NOT possible. You cannot grab an enemies weapon and rip it out of their hands unless thats your perk. You cannot break a weapon unless thats your perk. Only one perk can be used per turn. You cannot do some fancy martial arts move unless its stated somewhere that you can.

Armor/Items - This gives you new items and armor such as NVG's, armor plating, kevlar, helmets, all that good stuff. Items can't be upgraded as much, but are still useful. They both cost 1 point. ARMOR VARIES DEPENDING ON PLAYER, ITEMS ARE LIMITED AT 2.

Character Slot - This takes up all 3 points and allows you to get a new character to use. New characters start at 2/3 your current level, you automatically get a new character at level 5, but he starts at 1. You can only have 3 characters and cannot swap out.

How to Apply

Fill out this fancy, and short, form below!

Name -
Character (please choose from list below) -
Color (this is just for mapping purposes) -

Characters (this will be updated periodically)

All characters are unique and have their own upgrades, weapons, perks, items and armor. When you choose a new character, it doesn't have to be in theme with the others. Some characters say "Tier 2 or 3", this means they can't be picked as a primary character. Tiers are based on character slots. When you choose a character, expect weapons that correspond to their theme. No rocket launchers for your ninja.

                              History

Started in August of 2011, We began this project with not a lot of planning.  We worked on it off and on, but eventually we really got a feel for it and it began to take shape.  It went dormant for about a month, until a week ago when I declared that we would be finishing this project by today.  It took some work, but we managed to pull it together.

--Special thanks to Phantom Knight and Phillip for really taking charge of the project this week, your service does not go unnoticed.

Dungeons and Dragons RP
possible logo is possible.. later

This is NOT exactly like DnD; it is just based on it.

This will be very similar to a 'Roll to Dodge' except I will be using a D20 and you will be able to level up and train various skills.  You will work as a team to the stuff that comes up in the campaign.  I will be the 'Dungeon Master' or DM.    I will be the one to come up with the story and control the AI.  I will check this multiple times every day, so it will not go and die in a few days.

We will allow 5 people in the party.  WE ARE FULL AT THE CURRENT TIME  I reserve the right to remove anyone who does not take the game semi-seriously.  I like joking around, but please stick to the story and don't be a detriment.

Rolling: A natural 20 is known as a critical success, and it will make something go insanely well.  A natural 1 will result in a critical failure where something goes terrible wrong.  The closer you are to 20, the better the outcome.  There will be no 'overshot'.  Higher is better.

The following traits will be used:

Strength
Dexterity
Wisdom
Constitution
Intelligence
Charisma

You start out with 10 points to add any of the above traits.  If you have a 2 in Strength, then a climb check you I would roll a D20 and add the +2 from your strength.  You gain more points as you level up.

Use this as your player sheet:

Quote
(Player Name) - (Level) - (Race) - (Class)

Health: (current health)/(base health:to get your base health, multiply your constitution by 4 and then add 4)
Strength:
Dexterity:
Wisdom:
Constitution:
Intelligence:

Gold:

Armor Level: (not everyone can wear every armor type, you will start out with cloth armor, zero armor points)

Special Abilities/Feats: (These will be granted at certain levels depending on your class/race.  You start out with none.)

Status: (You may post this, but I may change it depending on the outcome of the roll)

Inventory: (start out with minimal crap)

Please also include a short back-story so I can develop the campaign.

Depending on the type and quality of the items you have, you may also get additions to rolls.  If you have an enchanted elvish long sword then you will receive a large bonus to attack rolls with that weapon.  You may buy weapons and items at various shops that you will find, but the rare items you will find/receive in your travels.  I will post a stores inventory once you come to it.  Different stores carry different items.  Enchanted weapons will come with a unique ability that varies on the item.

Battling:  I will roll first to see if you beat their armor level, and if you did, then you can roll for damage.  The amount rolled for damage will depend on the weapon.

Level 0 Spells - You can use Level 0 spells as often as you choose.
Detect Poison: Detects poison in one creature or small object.
Detect Magic: Detects spells and magic items within 60 ft.
Dancing Lights: Creates torches or other lights.
Ghost Sound: Figment sounds.
Touch of Fatigue: Touch attack fatigues target.
Mage Hand: 5-pound telekinesis.
Message: Whispered conversation at distance.
Prestidigitation: Performs minor tricks.
Acid Splash: Orb deals 1d3 acid damage.

Level 1 Spells - You have (5 x Level) Spell Points (SP) to use on Level 1 Spells
Shield: Invisible disc gives +4 to AC, blocks magic missiles.
Grease: Makes 10-ft. square or one object slippery.
Comprehend Languages: You understand all spoken and written languages.
True Strike: +20 on your next attack roll.
Magic Missile: 1d4+1 damage; +1 missile per two levels above 1st (max 5).
Disguise Self: Changes your appearance.
Animate Rope: Makes a rope move at your command.
Erase: Mundane or magical writing vanishes.
Feather Fall: Objects or creatures fall slowly.
Jump: Subject gets bonus on Jump checks.

Spell list will be updated once the mages level up.

Current Picture:

None yet

What just happened:  On the road to Gatlin.  We have just encountered a dead man lying by a dead horse.  They have people in the treeline ready to ambush the ambushers.  If they even get ambushed at all.

Ugly logo is temporary.

Furling's Forum - more information

Info:
In the process of being made by Furling/Cubelands.  This mod spawns a pet for you.  You can feed it and keep your pet healthy. You can place your pet in a pen so it won't bother you, and you can even disable when you are too busy to deal with it.  There will be many pets to choose from, and you can customize their colors.  Your pet will stay about ten studs away from you at all times, so that it doesn't get in your way while working.  There will be various commands to make your dog do certain things, but if you don't want to memorize commands, there will also be a convenient GUI so that it can be user-friendly.

What makes this special?
Once it is complete, anyone will be able to see your pet, regardless of if they have the mod or not.  It will work on anyone's server, even if they haven't downloaded the mod.

Off Topic / PC vs Mac - Support!
« on: October 05, 2011, 11:22:52 PM »
I am in a debate with my friend about Macs and PCs.  He thinks Macs are better, whilst I take the PC side for obvious reasons.

I need help.  Post any Anti-Mac argument that will help the cause.

Specifically, if you can find a PC with 96 GB of RAM and the ability to support 12 processors I would really appreciate it.  (He has a Mac with those specs and I need to find a PC that costs less with the same specs.)

Do not post anything negative without a supporting argument.  This is not anti Steve Jobs.  He was a great figure in the digital age, and he will be missed.
