Starship Dropship Troopers
You lean up from your rack to the sensation of an unbearable feeling. As you lean up you feel heavier than normal and sick, probably some side effect from to a drug you were given. Adjacent to your rack sits a man with a grey stubble wearing an olive green jacket who is just tying the laces on his boots into a knot casually like it's another day. The man finishes the last knot to look up at you, then nods a bit and slides a plastic bucket over to you. He then says, "I was wondering whether or not you would be waking up. They hauled you in here from the freezer and said it would be less of a shock if you woke up in here than in there. Don't worry this isn't the first time and nor will it be the last time someone like you will wake up in this position. It's just the way things go for lucky "volunteers" like you and me, you'll get use to it".

Brief memories appear in your mind of you in hand cuffs being dragged out of your home or were you a graduate heading off to a university or academy of sorts, whatever happened escapes you as you begin to feel the weight of dog tags form around your neck and memories from basic training and infantry school slowly coming crawling their way back into your head. Meanwhile the man starts talking again with a slight eastern European or German accent, "Forgive me though for the slightly clichéd introduction, I've watched many movies and read many books my in my time. It helps brighten the mood up around here. Anyway, I'll bring you up to speed since you are now awake. You might not remember this or not, but our government has expanding across space for long time while trying to keep to ourselves. About twenty years ago or som if not more due to time dilation, observers had noticed many ship like entities arriving in our space, but they entered in and out of the fringes on our borders. Soon they probed deeper and attacked us at first contact. Personally I think they just wanted to expand and colonize without really anticipating to bump into us, but the issue is up for debate later since the matter at hand is a serious one since we have no way of communicating with these beings since they are more insect like and communicate different than you and I. Our government seems to agree that war is the only option until diplomacy can be made. Since the time you have slept several key worlds have fallen and millions of small colonies have been over taken and destroyed by these bugmen. He stops to take a breath. "This is a lot for you to take in, so I'll leave you be for now. Until then your papers will be arriving in and where you be serving shortly". The man waves as he gets up and walks out of the room.
TL;DR We're at war with aliens, as a lucky conscript you get to go out kill them for humanities sake.

A stack of legal work is dropped at your feet by some POG, mostly asking whether or not you are conscript or an officer who went through the fancy pampered academy school.

Basically two people decided to shoot at two LAPD officers, the officers weren't killed.

I am however mad because thanks to the media because of how they reported on Ferguson, now all these people are coming out of the wood work looking for an excuse to try and kill police officers.

Today April 1st marks the day I made an account to correct a horrible error that only a fool could make. It's bee a good six years of debating over whatever it is, taking part in a few clans like OC(I miss you Jaden, nairb, mario) NWB(I miss you CaPs, Lordy, Plasma, Ghoul, Dest, drak, solid) and dwelling in offtopic(best subforum in the world).

Not that some or most of you care, but now you know.

Drama / Forum Rants: Episode 1

So it has come to my attention that there are some things that need to addressed.

1. Things that are related to games should be posted in games and not offtopic. If you want to discuss your indie game try creativity or games.

2. If you need help with something, either post on a forum dedicated to helping people with that stuff, go to the actual tech support team, see a doctor/mechanic, or just post in a megathread dedicated to whatever you need help with. Please stop spamming these help threads in offtopic. They just pile up and stop using people to google something for you.

3. /support. If you going to enter a debate atleast contribute to an argument. Sure posting /support is the easiest and quickest way to show your support for something, but all you are doing to is contributing nothing. Either vote in a poll to show your support, or take part in an actual discussion.

4. Replying to unwanted bumped topics. This a been problem for a long time, if someone wants to bump a thread let them, if you don't want to see an old thread either lock it yourself or ignore it and don't post in it. Posting in bumped thread to call someone an idiot for bumping it only makes the thread stay bumped. Don't do it, it only makes things worse.

Since the DB community is generally more mature than steam users I thought that maybe Blockland might have a chance to get more players and support as well as alternate source of distrubtion if Blockland was put on Indie DB. Perhaps it might be something worth looking into?

Hello forums.

I have created this guide based on my observations over a period of six years. Humans have been on this earth for long as you know and have been arguing amongst each other since the invention of a spoken language. The whole point to arguing is to persuade the opposition or in some cases a judge/jury. A debate would be a discussion on a certain issue. Before we go further into the subject let's look at the types of people in that you will likely encounter in a heated debates. Also types of Arguing.

Glossary:
You/Your Group
Pretty self explanatory.

The opposition
These are the people that that have different beliefs than you or your group and are trying to persuade you that they right.

The Pacifists
These guys are useless and do nothing. Their goals are to stop a debate from starting  while throwing a tarp over the issue and hope people to talk about it. Example: Someone who tell the Bronies and the Anti Bronies to shut up

Observers/Bystanders
These guys watch the debates that go on, sometimes they judge who had the better argument. Example: A jury

A Judge
Like the jury he or she will listen to both sides and weigh the facts and how both sides acted to decide who wins. Sometimes they have their own agenda and see both sides as flawed. example: Badspot/Admins

The Antagonizer/Troll
This type of character only seeks to start an argument for entertainment. example: Kaiiu

Quitter
Usually found on the opposition side. They give up the fight because they are either outmatched or know they can't win. They will usually reply with "I done with this thread.", "I'm going to a place where this stuff doesn't happen." example: ToothedDear, SirBricksAlot

The three basics: PEL
Pathos: Pathos is one of the most common forms of appealing as it involves emotion. The Media outlets like CNN love pathos(see the Travon Martin case). Basically you are trying to make the biggest sob story possible. example: "Look at these poor baby sea turtles on the brink of extinction as a result of big business dumping waste in the ocean."

Ethos: Probably one of the most rare forms of appealing as it involves ethics and nagging about everyday stuff. Ethos also involves talking about peoples character. Example: "It is unethical to wear a clown suit at a funeral.", "It is rude to talk with your mouth full", "It is unprofessional to slouch while you type."

Logos: Those who use logos tend use to logic and reason. Most of their argument is based around percentages, charts, numbers, history, and some times common sense. Using logos can be difficult since you need sources to back up your claim, sometimes your information comes from biased or skewed sources, sometimes it's fake and you loose legitimacy. examples: "Every year 30% of all forests are cut down.", "Every thirty minutes someone goes missing in the city of Chicago."

Other types of arguing
Strawman: Strawman is where you take something from the oppositions argument and blow it out of proportion. It is very common in political debates. For example a pro gun group will argue more for the right to self defense and that there should be more vigilantism since the police are unreliable. A leftist might say "But what if that guy who was mugging you was just pranking you, now that he is dead his son wont have a father and his wife will inherit his debts".

Buyer's Remorse: Buyer's remorse is when someone buys something that they don't like, but they try to justify there purchase as much as possible. Kind of like that ox brown townogy that will be made later. For example someone buys an xbox one and isn't satisfied, his best friend has been bugging him with xbox bashing memes for weeks and how the ps4 was better. Rather than admit to his friend about how he probably should have got a ps4(or PC) he will try to say how great something is when it really isn't. Probably the root of most fanboy arguments. Other examples: SimCity 5 fanboys

How to handle an argument

In order to argue you must have the following before you can start.

Knowledge of the subject
You must also have to know what the about oppositions argument to try and counter it
A calm attitude
You have to be civil
Proper language communication skills
Sources and information to back what you are saying
Always assume the opposition will never give in and will keep fighting

Human's are like Ox's, they are stubborn, don't like being told what to do, and they are hard to move(persuade); but there are many ways to move an ox.

Often most arguments are the from the result of an antagonizer or troll to get people to yell at each other. The best way to stop an argument is to take a deep breath and not reply or look at that post that makes you want to state your opinion. Basically not playing is the only way to win. If an argument does break out just let the thread run it's curse until people stop posting and it ends up on page 15.

Now for a different scenario. You like Vanilla ice cream, your friend likes mint. You say mint is superior, but your friend disagrees. Soon you too a fighting over what flavor is better so you have a third friend who likes both flavors judge your argument. You have many options here. You can belittle your opponent by responding to anything he says, you can keep arguing until one of you gives up like how most debates go. If you can't convince the opposition, you can try to convince
your judge that you are better man, just make sure to use any combination of PEL. Alternatively you can try showing the opposition the error of their ways or come to the realization that fighting over flavors is stupid to begin with.

Now things to take into consideration when you have a third party judge both sides is that you want to be civil, which means avoid getting angry, you want to avoid the use of slang, avoid the use of big words. They might sound nice and make you look smarter, but at the same time you will end up making yourself look a pretentious jerk. Also acting childishly by resorting to name calling and cursing you will probably lose support and people might listen to the other side. By being more mature and calm you make your self look the good guy.

Thank you for reading, I will try to add more onto this. Criticism, suggestions, and corrections are always welcome. Now discuss.

Off Topic / Machines Megathread - Don't forget the motor oil

Quote
A machine is a tool that consists of one or more parts, and uses energy to achieve a particular goal. Machines are usually powered by mechanical, chemical, thermal, or electrical means, and are frequently motorized. Historically, a powered tool also required moving parts to classify as a machine; however, the advent of electronics technology has led to the development of powered tools without moving parts that are considered machines.

Now discuss vehicles, robots, trains, and stuff like these beauty's.

Games / Wargame Megathread - RED DRAGON TEASER OUT
« on: January 09, 2013, 06:41:21 PM »
What is Wargame?
Wargame is a real time tactics/real time strategy game that focuses on unit combat, tactics, and using the terrain to your advantage. The game takes place during the cold war where you either side with the forces of NATO or the forces of the Warsaw PACT. You have a wide variety of Infantry, troop carriers, helicopters, planes, tanks, artillery, fast attack vehicles, and tank destroyers to fight your battles. Unlike other rts where you play as a certain faction or country, Wargame allows you to make your own armies that fit your style. You can play as the United States, or you can play as an army that uses American Infantry, German tanks, French airplanes, and British artillery. You have the freedom to pretty much tailor the army that fits your needs. You also have a wide variety of technology. So you can use old tanks from the 1960s, or new modern tanks from the 1980s or a mix of both. The possibilities to what you can make are endless. Be careful though, you have limited troops and each unit you take comes with a unique price tag. You have also have fuel, ammo, and health to worry about.

The Factions
NATO: This faction is composed of western democracies that fall under the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. NATO armies follow their own guideslines based on their own countries needs instead of following a standardized pattern.
List of countries ingame:
  • United States: This country is one the major super powers in game that can stand on its own. American units are well balanced, but they aren't the masters of everything. Most of their tanks are long ranged and have firing systems, making them expensive. Appears in: EE, ALB, RD
  • France: This country focuses on using light units, hit and run tactics, and ambushes. Appears in: EE, ALB, RD
  • United Kingdom: This country focuses on slow heavy armor and light mobile transports. Appears in: EE, ALB, RD
  • West Germany: This country has their own locally built weapons, vehicles, and heavily armed Infantry. Appears in: EE, ALB, RD
  • Canada: This country relies on Robust infantry, anti-tank equipment, older tanks, fast transports, and defensive tactics. Appears in: ALB, RD
  • Norway: Like the Canadians, Norway uses formidable infantry. Their forces are skilled in close quarters combat and tasked with slowing down offenses so that they can buy time for other NATO forces. Appears in ALB, RD
  • Denmark: This country relies mostly on militia infantry and armored recon vehicles. Appears in ALB, RD
  • Sweden: Technically this a neutral country, but leans more toward NATO. The Swedish army has a scarcity of infantry, gas guzzling tanks, and a strong airforce. Appears in ALB, RD
  • ANZACS: The “Bad Boys of the Empire” no longer need prove their status as elite troops in the field of infantry combat. Specialists in counter-insurgency, they track, locate and destroy enemy infantry in melee combat, or use a plethora of anti-personnel devices from napalm to a range of modified vehicles to lend the infantry more firepower. Alas, their insularity and expertise in jungle warfare has resulted in a marked weakness in anti-tank combat. Appears in RD
  • Japan: The Japanese self-defense force (JSDF) is a self-defense force which is demonstrated by its philosophy, which favors limited and clinical counter-offensives over deep entry. Comprised largely of Japanese hardware, the focus is more on equipping vehicles with extremely high-precision optics rather than heavy armor. In the ‘90s however, Japan brought itself up to date with MBTs (main battle tanks) and IFVs (infantry fighting vehicles) from its Western allies. Appears in RD
  • South Korea: In an official state of war since 1950, South Korea is a nation armed to the teeth. It has a solid infantry force, particularly marines, and relies more on extensive formations than on significant technical advantages to defeat its enemy in the north. South Korea only began developing a high-tech military industry in the mid ‘80s, producing “home-grown” vehicles to rival those of their American allies. Appears in RD

PACT: The is the treaty of friendship of Slavic peoples, was created in response to NATO. All PACT armies rely on standardized equipment, however each country is unique to a degree.

List of countries ingame:
  • Soviet Union: This country can stand on its own, has heavy tank formations with terrible optics, helicopter gunships, and heavy guns. However like the US, Soviet units are expensive. Appears in EE, ALB, RD
  • East Germany: This country fights exclusively with downgraded soviet technology, fierce infantry, and tasked with guarding the Iron Curtain. Their forces have many recon units. Appears in EE, ALB, RD
  • Poland: This country has strong infantry specialists and fast transports. Appears in EE, ALB, RD
  • Czechoslovakia: This country has the most home built weapons, fast infantry transports, and powerful artillery. Appears in EE, ALB, RD
  • China: The Sino-Soviet split forced the Chinese army to develop its own military industry which had previously depended on Soviet hardware. Oscillating between Western technology and local production, by the ‘90s the Chinese army was barely inferior to its Western and Soviet counterparts in many areas. Appears in RD
  • North Korea: The North Korean army still depends on its vast forces, one of the largest in the world, to compensate for the technological gap between its South Korean and American adversaries. However, it played on the rivalry between the Chinese and the Soviets and acquired substantial military resources from both camps to make up for most of its weaknesses. The North Korean army therefore comprises an extraordinary mix of vehicles straight out of WWII and modern prototypes from its communist neighbors. Appears in RD

I need some small riflemen and an officer dude with a sword and pistol that is the size of a 1x1 brick and a horse mounted soldier that is eithier the size of a 1x2 or 1x3. They can be useful for representing soldiers in mini empires.

Also please nothing too modern, make them look like they are from the civil war era if you can.

Games / Hearts Of Iron III
« on: October 19, 2012, 03:57:44 PM »

What is Hearts of Iron 3 you ask? Hearts of Iron 3 is a grand strategy game made by Paradox  Interactive. The game takes place before, during, after World War 2. The goal of the game is up to you, however objectives can be set by faction leaders. Throughout the game you will be reasearching technology, upgrading units, creating armies, building navies, and bombing stuff with your planes. You will have the ability to use diplomatic actions, sabotage nations with spies, govern your nation politically, and fight one many theatres. Did I mention you can play as any country on the map? The game can support up to 32 players and gameplay is in realtime so you don't have to wait for anyone.

Factions

The Allies
The Allies support the ideas of freedom and democracy and protect the ideas freeworld. Countries who are members of the Allies are protected by a universal mutual assistance treaty. If any member of the Allies is attacked, all members consider it an attack upon all of them and are automatically considered at war with the attacker or the attacking faction.  Allied faction countries require more consumer goods during peacetime, but less during wartime.

The Axis
The Axis are aggressive and tend support conquest of the smaller nations to grow. Axis members have the ability to declare “limited war” upon another country. They may attack another country without inviting their faction members to join them, which allows them to keep the territory for themselves and not share in the victory spoils. If the country gets into trouble, they may still issue a Call to Arms, which invites their faction allies to join and help them. Axis countries also have fewer restrictions on when they can declare war, and get a bonus when fighting in enemy-owned provinces which are claimed by the Axis country.

Comintern
The Comintern are a group of nations who support Communism and Socialism. Because Comintern countries are so closely joined ideologically, they pool their resources for the common good and are able to trade resources with other  Comintern members without using money. Comintern faction spies also get a bonus to their effectiveness.

Neutral
You have the option to not join a side and do your own thing.

Gameplay
Gameplay is slow at first, but once the year 1939 hits the action starts to come. The game is loosly tied with actual historical events so you see things like the Spanish civil war, the Finish-Soviet Winter War, and the Pearl Harbor attacks. Like an Rts you will be commanding units, instead you will be commanding regiments, brigades, corps, and army groups, and armies. Control units yourself or have ai command them through an HQ. Play against people or AI.

Media

Where to Buy it?
On steam ofcourse. It is $10.00 on steam.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/25890/

Are there DLC's?
Yes there is. Each dlc adds new content to the game and actually improves gameplay. All DLC's are avaible on steam. It should be noted that once you install a dlc on steam that it impossible to disable it, so if you have a friend who has vanilla and you have a DLC like For the Motherland it will not be able to play with him. (If you guys know how to disable expansions and DLC's that would be great.)

Is this a game I can pick up and play and be good at?
Depends on how familiar you are with Paradox's games. I would say there is learning curve to it and it will take a few days to get gameplay down and understanding of how the gameworks. Don't worry though there is a nice community around to help you.

Games / Arma Megathread
« on: September 10, 2011, 03:58:59 PM »
Arma is a military simulator that emphasizes Team work, Coordination, communication, and command. It features a mix of Infantry and vehicle combat(Jets, helicopters, and big planes included). Not only can you play it as a shooter, but as an rts or squad based shooter. There is base building and reasource collecting(earning cash through captured towns, killing, and salvaging). This game is pretty demanding so you will require a decent computer to run it.

Other facts:
The game was made by the same people who made the First Operation Flashpoint. Servers can support 64 players and thousand of AI under there command. The game world is one large map(the size of a small country) and can have multiple things happening on it. Like the source engine, Bohemia uses their engine and constantly adds on to it.

Games in the Series:
Arma: Cold war Assault(It is Operation Flashpoint, but re-released under a new name) - See Op:Flashpoint
Arma: Armed Assault - First game in the series
Arma 2 - Second game in the series often criticised for its bugginess
Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead - Standalone expansion to Arma 2, fixes many problem and you can play Arma 2 missions in it if you own the first Arma 2
