Help / Empty server with stuffloads of AFK (?) players...
« on: October 07, 2013, 06:24:41 PM »
For the last few days, I've noticed a lot of AFK players in my server. The server is effectively empty, save some spam. It's gotten to the point where I have 22 players in my server, but none of them are responding.

I suspect this is a glitch or something - I can't imagine 22 people going AFK in my server for no apparent reason. Anyone have ideas as to how I can figure out what is going on?

If anyone has the software and know how to render a 3DS or OBJ file, I will pay you $20 for a simple rendering. I can send the money via PayPal or whatever works best for you. I can't post the file here because it is under a license - just reply to this and I will PM you.

Modification Help / Creating many bricks...
« on: January 19, 2013, 04:03:21 AM »
I am trying to work on a room generator (maze). The idea is that I have interchangeable pieces that are randomized and loaded together to form a maze.

Now, I know how to spawn individual bricks a la new fxDtsBrick, but it would be tedious to manually code each 'piece' this way. How should I approach this? Potential options:
- Use Blockland's save loading to somehow load each piece
- Use my own save format/loading to handle each piece

Obviously, using Blockland's built in system makes a lot of sense - I am just unsure how to do it... If anyone could either provide a code sample, or point me towards an add-on that does this sort of thing so I can look at the source, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Modification Help / Blockland console - non-standard STDIN?
« on: July 04, 2012, 03:17:02 PM »
I'm trying to pipe to Blockland's stdin - am I just screwing up, or does it use a non-standard stdin? I can't seem to write to the console. The alternative is to write a server in torquescript (or use the one destiny(?) made a while back) and eval with it, but that's kinda awkward imo.

Modification Help / Capturing blockland dedicated server output...
« on: July 03, 2012, 01:08:40 AM »
Hi all

I am trying to capture the output of Blockland's dedicated server. I used to do it simply by piping the STDOUT of blockland.exe -dedicated. Now with the launcher, however, I am not sure how to best approach this. Because the launcher launches blockland.exe -dedicated on its own accord, I'm not sure how I can get the output of the console. If I just launch BlocklandLauncher.exe -dedicated, I end up with the launcher output, but then it terminates as soon as the actual server launches.

Any ideas?

Off Topic / Link to a good article about space...
« on: January 09, 2012, 10:49:37 PM »
Hi all

I was a bit confused about the order of magnitude (and what exactly are) galaxies, stars, planets, solar systems... Does anyone have a link to a good article about this? Doesn't need to be in depth - just a clear explanation.

Just for personal interest. Also - I know, google. I looked. I couldn't find anything good.

Drama / Here's some really great ones everyone should see!
« on: January 04, 2012, 01:18:40 AM »
In no particular order. Most are available on Netflix and/or Hulu.

1. The Walking Dead - Fantastic, probably one of my favorites on the list. Zombie apocalypse and whatnot.

2. Heroes - Ok, the after the first season and a half or so it gets pretty stuffty - but up until then, it's incredible! People with superpowers, as the title indicates.

3. House MD - Not much to say here. Another favorite up along with TWD, except this has a more comedic spin to it (it's half drama, half comedy). Also, less zombies. Still a great one, maybe even better than TWD.

4. Breaking Bad - Teacher turned drug dealer. Fantastic show.

5. Game of Thrones - Also a good show. Not actually one of my favorites, but it's still pretty epic.

That's all for now folks!

« on: January 04, 2012, 01:09:56 AM »
I have .obj model that I need to get a picture of, but I am horribly incompetent at blender or any of the other 3d modeling software. Could someone do me a favor and do a quick rendering of the .obj? PM me and I'll send you the file.

I can't really give you anything in return... other than my appreciation? I guess? or something? research?

Off Topic / Mine Project
« on: August 28, 2011, 11:46:18 PM »
Ok so I'm pretty dumb about computer hardware. I recently made the awful decision to attempt to create the cheapest computer I could, but one that would still work ('work' being a relative term. I want to be able to install a unix OS and do basic stuff. no gaming or anything). Anyways, here's my list of stuffs that I'm interested in buying. Is any of it incompatible? am I missing stuff? can I get some of this for cheaper?

$0 - computer case (actually, it's a cardboard box...)
$17 - power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817822014
$45 - motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813153207
$14 - cpu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116095
$9 - 1 x RAM stick http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134784
$0 - an old Hitachi 250gig HD, uses SATA (or whatever the standard is these days, it works fine with my real desktop)
$0 - CoolerMaster huge ass fan from a friend
Total cost, a mere $85 give or take.

I have a funny suspicion that if I stick all this stuff together, it will spontaneously combust :V

Will post pics when this stuff is done :D

Off Topic / ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS
« on: August 28, 2011, 01:30:10 AM »
Just got a nice, fat paycheck of $1000. It's burning a hole in my pocket, so I need to blow some of it on computer stuff. What should I upgrade?

Stats:
Intel Core i7 CPU 930 @ 2.80GHz 2900 Mhz, 4 Cores, 8 Logical Processors
9.00GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
1 x 500GB HD (boot drive)
1 x 1000GB HD
1 x 250GB HD
TOTAL 1750GB HD
Dynex Multimedia Keyboard DX-WKBD Wired Keyboard (old and stuffted up, mind you)
alienware USB mouse (works fine, nothing special)
DUAL Acer 20 inch monitors

Probably don't want to spend more than ~$250, but idk. Also, no "get 1000 $1 dollar hooker" stuff please :V

As the title indicates, how can I detect (clientside) when a player joins or leaves a server? I'd also like to be able to get the server name and any other server information, if possible.

Hey Mod Discussion

I'm looking for a competent scripter to write some basic torquescript (mostly, just some TCP object stuff). You must be able to work at a reasonable pace, and you should not be a complete idiot. I'm mostly just too rusty at Torquescript to do this, so I'd much prefer someone else (some much more capable) does this part of the project.

Credit will be given where it is due.

PM me if you want specifics on the project.

Thanks!
