Off Topic / My computer has been blue screening a lot lately

I know this isn't a tech forum, but there are usually some helpful replies. My computer has been blue screening when I play games. The screen will go black and after a few seconds, there are couple things that may happen. Some times it just goes straight to a blue screen. Other times the computer will recover and be fine. Other times, it will seem to recover, but soon artifacts will appear all over the place, often followed by a blue screen.

I have no clue what the problem is. I updated my graphics drivers. I cleared my case and hardware of dust. I don't know what to do next.

Off Topic / Headset Microphone Crackling

I recently bought one of these http://www.plantronics.com/us/product/gamecom-377

The problem is that whenever I record my voice on my computer, I can clearly understand what I am saying, however there is a loud and annoying constant crackle. I know this isn't the first place to ask a question like this, but I went to their forums and there is no activity.

Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be?

Games / Disconnect on all source games after 4 retries, but only after port-forwarding

Because the steam forums seem to be ignoring my problem, I've come here for help, so I am well aware this is not the place to begin.

I recently forwarded my ports so I could host games on Garry's Mod for a few of my friends. I was successful in the fact that they could join.

However, only after forwarding my ports, I can not join any server on any game that runs on the Source Engine. I have my ports forwarded for Terraria and Killing Floor as well, but have not experienced any similar problems.

These are the ports that are open.


Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this?

Note that after I close those ports, I can join any server on any game.

Off Topic / In need of computer assistance

Basically, I was playing GTA IV on my desktop. Suddenly, the game freezes, the screen goes blank, and it shuts off. I tried to start it back up again, but to no avail. I tried to diagnose the problem myself, however, none of the hardware smelled burnt, so I fiddled around with it a bit more. I un-plugged an plugged everything back in. Occasionally, when I pressed the power button, the fans would turn (all of them) for about a quarter of a second.

Does anybody have any idea what is wrong?

Edit: The play left, without telling me if there was any lag. I would appreciate someone joining and telling me.

Games / A friend of mine is having problems connecting to Vavle based Multiplayer games

He was able to a while yesterday, however, it suddenly refused to allow him onto multiplayer servers on both Garry's Mod and Counter Strike:Source. He is unable to even load the servers inside the game, but when he uses the steam View all servers tool, he can see the servers, including Garry's Mod and CS:S. When he tries to join one, however, he "Fails after 4 retries". He is able to chat with me with steam. He has internet connection, and he has good standing in VAC status. We checked the firewall, and everything was allowed.

Does anybody know what the problem would be?

Off Topic / My computer is not starting up

Well, firstly, there is obviously no power running through it as my mouse is not lighting up, nor is my keyboard's num lock light.

Is there any way too figure out what the problem is? I know that either the PSU or the Motherboard is fried.

So I got a spam of 3 steam messages recently all hotlinking to merryholidays.org. I googled it, and it seems to be some sort of shock site, so I'm sot recommending you go to it, but does anybody know what it actually is?

Off Topic / I need Help on deciding a graphics card.

Well I'm getting a graphics card for Christmas, and I've narrowed it down to two different ones.

Games / Clearing Gmod add-ons

So, I have accumulated quite a bit of useless addons for Gmod, but I don't know how to clean the entire thing out. I have deleted the local game cache, but that doesn't remove the addons.

Do you delete the garrysmod folder in Steamapps?

Off Topic / Ipod apps- Itunes issues

So, I download most of my apps on my ipod via wifi, not my computer because it is more convenient, however none of the apps on my ipod are on my computer. My question is if there is a way to transfer the apps to my computer or not, in case my ipod needs to be reformatted because of a crash or something.
