Just downloaded siba's Slanted Bricks today and decided to doodle around. As you can see they're perfect for vinyl siding and my bushes look atrocious. Is there anyone who has some cool foliage who'd be willing to help a brother out?

Build is 12x24 minus the staircase and bushes.

Other bricks used:
siba's Decorative Bricks
Trader's JVS Windows and Doors
King Tinks' One Random Brickpack

Help / Blockland Crashes Frequently (Mac)
« on: February 25, 2012, 04:32:29 AM »
Just installed Blockland again after almost a year of hiatus. Love that I won't have to download another version of Blockland again, all hail the auto updater and Blockland Launcher, etc. etc. Problem is that now I'm crashing fairly often (screen freezes and pinwheel starts spinning, I end up having to force quit the program) and other weird things have been happening (takes forever to authenticate, server list stops updating midway through and I have to relaunch several times to get it to work again, random crashes while loading servers)

Anyway, here's my console.log file. Any help would be appreciated.

Help / 4x Water Brick will not appear.
« on: September 15, 2009, 11:46:34 PM »
So I'm trying to get the 4x Water Brick for a build I'm doing. The problem is that no matter how many times I restart Blockland or re-download the file it simply won't show up in the Add-Ons checklist.

Here's what I'm talking about:

It's the first .zip file in the folder.

It should be appearing above Brick_Arch, but it isn't.

I downloaded it on my younger brother's computer and it worked just fine. Yet every time I try it on mine it simply won't show up. My current theory is that having Blockland installed to the D:\ drive might be causing this, but all of my other add-ons work just fine, so I'm at a loss as to why it's only this one that's fsck'd up.

Can anyone help me?

Gallery / Zombie Build: a WIP
« on: June 18, 2009, 05:23:03 PM »
This is a project that my brother and I have been working on sporadicly for the past few months; since about February or March.  Total build time on the entire thing is probably no more than 14 hours, but the idea has been ricocheting around in our brains for a while.

The Grand Idea goes something like this:
  • Points based economy wherein zombie kills are the only way to gain points; weapons cost a set amount and subtract from the players overall score each time they buy them; and vehicle spawns cost a one time charge (Amount of charge dependent on the type of vehicle) to first spawn a vehicle and then half that amount to re-spawn it.
  • Good, interesting builds that encourage the player to create their own backstory about what happened, as well as some clues vague enough to allow for player imagination.
  • A possible Class based weapons system if the current "weapons cost a set amount and subtract from the players overall score each time they buy them" thing doesn't work out. (This idea is for pansies so don't encourage it)

So yeah, that's the devious scheming behind the map.  Here are the actual builds:

The military command post/spawn area: Hastily constructed out of pre-fab pieces, these buildings are the military's only foothold in the Zombie Apocalypse

The view from inside the Command post when you spawn: To the right are the TV monitors (All evented so that you can turn them on and off), and to the left are server racks since the Zombie Apocalypse requires a lot of processing power. Directly ahead are the computery things, and around the corner resides the uniform rack and the Vehicle Spawn Key.

This is the armory where players will be able to purchase their weapons.

This just shows the start of some of the landscaping we plan to do to make this a more immersive map.

This is one of the two, now defunct, bunkers that used to tie into another location on the map that was deemed unfeasible and destroyed. They will not be included in the final version, but they were nice builds, so I include them here.

A small shelter where players can rest on their way in between major defensive areas.

The good ship Marie MacIssac, a tugboat beached and rent in two.  What caused this calamity? I dunno, but a few of the previous survivors were kind enough to fashion a crude stairway and a bridge out of Packer's Props, linking the two halves and making it supremely defensible.

The engine of the Marie MacIssac, I really like how the Wheel Prop looks here and I don't want to hide my genius away behind a link. :P

These are the beginnings of a small zombie infested town that is currently the WIP portion of the build.  The red baseplates are for ease of duplication.

But wait, there's more!  In the interest of completion (and of laziness) I am tentatively opening the topic up for people to submit their own original builds for POSSIBLE inclusion in the build.  I will decide who and what gets included.  To speed the process up here are the rules:

  • New builds only.  Don't go looking through your saves list for things you'd like to throw in.  *All* builds must be built ONLY for the purposes of this map.
  • Builds may only be submitted by their creator. None of this "Well ___ isn't on right now, but I know that he'd like to have his build included." stuff.  If you didn't build it then don't submit.
  • One picture per build. I've picture-spammed enough already as it is, I don't care how great your build is, if you include more than one image of it in your post then it is automaticly disqualified. NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • Make them good, make them fit the theme.  If your gonna spend time building something make sure that it's worth it.  Take a step back and ask yourself: "Is this as good or better than the existing builds?" If the answer is "No" then rebuild it, if it is "Yes" then show it to someone else and have them take a look at it.  More than likely the answer is probably "No"
  • Be prepared for failure.  I'm only looking for a few select builds to include, so even if I get a lot of equally amazing submissions I won't be able to include them all.  Conversely, if I get a lot of bad submissions I won't include any.
  • Have fun with it!  This is more important than all of the other rules combined.  The only reason I'm doing this is so I can continue to be lazy and because I appreciate the BL community enough to know that there are much better builders out there who might be able to lend a hand. I might not accept your build, but so what?  At least you can look back on your build with pride while plotting your revenge and my inevitable downfall, right?

Have fun, and Good Luck!

The rest of you feel free to offer any constructive criticism you may have.  And please: no X/10 ratings, those are spammy and require no thought whatsoever.  Intelligent comments only please.

EDIT: We are also accepting suggestions from you with regard to new locations that you'd like to see on the map. Even if you don't submit a build you can still contribute to the creation of this map!

Faces, Decals, Prints / SkiMask Version 3
« on: June 02, 2009, 10:01:31 PM »
Version 3 is here and it brings with it a complete overhaul!

What used to be 8 lo-res, GIMP made SkiMask faces, are now 18 crisp decals, re-made in Paint.NET. There are now 3 different skin tones and 6 unique designs to choose from, each perfect for anything from holding up a convenience store to infiltrating secret government facilities.

(Old SkiMask topic for comparison)

Suggestions & Requests / Re: v12
« on: March 22, 2009, 03:15:10 PM »
This is just a list of things I, personally, want to see in future versions of Blockland.  Not necessarily in v12, but since it's next in sequence ... whatever here's the list:

- SNOT building. SNOT stands for Studs Not On Top and is the reason that things like this can exist.  It's also the best way to do realistic bricks.

- New Pieces. I'd love to see some of the new curved slopes, jumper bricks, and any number of the smaller pieces that would allow for a realistic level of detail in our builds. To be fair I know about all the Add-On part pack things out there but most of those are rather low quality and don't reflect the current selection of official LEGO parts that are out there.

- LDraw support.  ROBLOX has a very primitive version of this, but basically this would be the ability to build something in LDraw and then import it into Blockland as a build.

- And while I'm dreaming I'd like a way to build vehicles out of bricks. You'd have the seat bricks (Pilot's seat and passenger seat), wheel/tread bricks to build on, and some official windscreens to reduce the amount of flat fronted cars and trucks.

Again this is just a wish-list at best, I don't offer any suggestions about how to implement these changes nor do I know enough about the Torque game engine to know if any of these is even remotely possible; I just think that these would make BL exponentially more fun to play.

Gallery / Castle Construction Set
« on: February 03, 2009, 05:16:09 PM »
Pandan invited me over to his server for a Medieval City build a while back and, while I was there, I created some pretty nifty Castle wall segments that could be duplicated to create an almost unlimited number of castle wall configurations using a 16x16 stud grid as a base.  It was so nifty that I wanted to share it with the rest of the world, but what I had at the time was, well, kinda crappy and it felt incomplete. So I started building. After a few hours here's what I came up with:

The Save can be found by following the link below.  Make sure to read the Readme.txt file if you don't know how to properly save .bls files!

To demonstrate what can be done with this save, here's a Walled City I made on an earlier version: [ 1 ]-[ 2 ]-[ 3 ]-[ 4 ]-[ 5 ]-[ 6 ]

Thanks for looking!

Faces, Decals, Prints / Ski-Mask (One Hole Balaclava) *UPDATE*
« on: December 07, 2008, 03:44:42 AM »
After getting tired of complaining about the severe lack of Ski-Mask and Ski-Mask-esque faces (The only notable one is the Ninja-mask - ed.) I decided to sit down with GIMP and bust out one of my own. Currently only avalible in good ole ambiuous yellow, though I might whip up a few new skin colors and facial expressions in the future.

*UPDATE*

The new v2 of this file upgrades the SkiMask decal into a decal pack! In addition to the first Face there is now a new two hole SkiMask (Mouth has been added), Female versions of both, and African American skin tones for every decal!

Also, some people have been wondering where I got the chest decal.  It was in this decal pack from a member named Killhammer. Hope that clears things up!

Modification Help / A Request
« on: August 17, 2008, 03:02:50 PM »
I was wondering if anyone with proper modding knowledge would be so kind as to make 3 new particle effects.  Being a newb I don't know how to go about doing this myself, but I know it's possible.

Laser R - a red laser emitter
Laser G - a green laser emitter
Laser B - a blue laser emitter

I have a map that uses the laser particle effects in the doorways of all the buildings, all of the emitter bricks are gray and it would ruin the appearance of the buildings to change them to red.  I'd appreciate if someone could set these up and make them avalible for download.  Since they are the three primary colors of light these lasers would actually be useful for those people who don't want to sacrifice looks for functionality.

Thanks in advance!
