Hey friends! I can confirm it was really cool to meet Furdle, he's a chill guy and he makes a mean roostertail - I'm sure we'll hang out again when he's back from Malawi.

Btw sorry you guys are having to make do with that Blockland Glass stuff, I genuinely feel bad about that :iceCream:

Drama / Re: RTB Dedicated Hosting Service - Service Closing
« on: February 16, 2014, 04:04:02 PM »
The service is now closed. Refunds have been issued. If you've not received an expected refund or the amount was not as expected please email payments@returntoblockland.com with details and we'll sort that out for you. We won't be checking this thread so please make sure to use the email address.

Once again, thanks for making the service such a success and we hope you enjoyed using it - we're proud to have been able to do such an excellent job of hosting your servers for you.

Hi - We've taken the decision to stop providing the RTB dedicated hosting service beyond the 16th of February. Our hosting provider recently changed their policy on DoS attacks meaning they'll no longer be reconnecting servers after they get null-routed for DoS attacks - and the RTB service gets DDoS'd fairly regularly.

We've considered a number of options to enable us to continue providing the service including switching hosts and paying for DoS protection but the effort involved for us just isn't worth it. With the Steam release, we were hoping for access to a larger client base to enable us to provide more reliable service with the additional income. Unfortunately it's been two months and we're still having to turn away all Steam users because there's no way for them to authenticate their dedicated servers without a key. This lack of interest and co-operation from Blockland makes it too hard to justify our continued efforts to provide an excellent service under these circumstances so we've opted to refocus our attention on some other indie game communities instead. To be frank, having to deal with a completely ambivalent development team when we're providing such a high quality professional level of service to a community is insulting and not something we're interested in continuing to do.

The service will be shut down from February 16th and everyone with an active contract will be refunded via PayPal. Details on refunds will be forthcoming shortly. We strongly recommend you retrieve any files you want to keep from your servers before this date, but we will manually retrieve files for people for up to a week after the shut-off date.

We apologise for the lack of notice and our unfortunate inability to fulfil our obligations to our clients but the situation is unavoidable, we hope the generous refund goes some way to making up for this. Finally we'd like to thank all our clients that purchased service from us, we appreciate your trust in us and hope the experience was enjoyable - it's been our absolute pleasure to host Blockland's most popular servers for the past year.

Thanks.

I'd rather you rename it to something new - RTB isn't being developed anymore and while I don't have an issue with you reusing the code (despite the license) I don't want there to be any confusion around it.

General Discussion / Re: Why RTB going be Shutdown?
« on: February 07, 2014, 09:50:37 AM »
I wasn't intending to explain much further but there's a bunch of stupid rumors going around so I may as well clarify things.

RTB's always been about furthering my own skills and knowledge and featured prominently on my resume when I applied for my first job (and it's probably why I got it). It got to the point a while ago that RTB no longer did that for me but I continued because I enjoyed the game/community and it provided a lot of useful services that were clearly needed - plus I saw an opportunity to have my work exposed to a much larger userbase via Steam.

However in my opinion the Steam launch was underwhelming, badly co-ordinated and still has a number of non-trivial problems that haven't been resolved a month and a half or so later. Honestly I expected game development to be taken a bit more seriously given the potential for a much wider audience but it's just not materialised and I got bored of putting more effort into the game than the guys who make it. I offered to develop community features and services for free as an official part of Blockland but there wasn't much interest or follow-up on that.

So with my free time running out due to a recent job promotion I'm having to pick what I want to spend it on more carefully and I really can't justify spending any more of it on modding Blockland. I'll continue to play and moderate because it's a great game but I'm done developing.

Just to clarify a few things, RTB development is over and as you can see it will cease to exist beyond March 1st. As it stands, I won't be playing any part in the future of Blockland's development either. This isn't a trick - I genuinely have no plans for Blockland or RTB.

I'll put together a tarball of all submitted add-ons at some point to make downloading everything easier.

RTB Hosting will continue to exist for the foreseeable future.

I can't work out if you legitimately think this is the ideal way to resolve your issue with steam wallet scam links or if you were just looking for a reason to post a thread.

Either way, what is wrong with you?

Post your console.log file.

The 2x2 brick can be generated based on the information in the datablock alone, it doesn't need a brick file.

We're aware of an outage of our NY04 node so any users currently having issues with their server, please be patient - we're looking into it and we'll be back shortly with information and compensation.

Thanks.

The node is now back up - no information on the cause of the downtime just yet so we'll have to get back to you a little later on. All active contracts for NY04 will be given an extra day on their contract to compensate for the downtime.

Apologies for the inconvenience and thanks for your patience and understanding.
