I'm almost done with the initial cleaning up, i'm still pondering wether i will leave the faces flat or texture the brickwork.

2
gotcha, is there a way to calculate that?

Also i am trying to understand how the bottom textures are constructed, any idea on these?

yeah but if you stretch it, won't you get a "thicker" edge  along one of the axis?

EDIT: Nevermind, i'm a moron, they ARE actually stretched, i just never noticed, this makes it all much simpler.

Modification Help / Does anyone know how bricks sides are textured?
« on: March 25, 2014, 09:48:13 AM »
I've started making a brick based vehicle and i would like to make the brickwork visible on my 3D model, i see how i'm supposed to apply brickTOP.png to the top of the bricks, that's not an issue. But brickSIDE.png i'm not entirely sure how it is applied to bricks by the game internally so that no matter the length of the brick, the edge remains sharp and not stretched.

Does the game cut up the face of bricks into pieces and apply only a portion of that texture to it? I would like to use only stock textures on this so that if someone use replacements it will still look right.

Thanks but the original design belong to JANGBRiCKS, i just really liked how short it was, with the way trains move in the mod it's preferable.

I started modeling my own block locomotive, a 16x8 (ish) Diesel Switcher for 6 block wide rails.

I've been mocking up a vehicle in blockland, with the idea that it would be the best way to get an accurate feel of it's scale, however is there a way to export the brickwork to a standard 3D format?

Yeah i got as far as to making the 45° turn, and using 22.5 degree pieces on the same turn to make it a little smoother, been playing in mspaint for a while to try to make the largest possible (nice looking) curve using 11.75 increments.

Right now i'm banging my head on how to come out of a 11.75 + 22.5°  - 22.5° - 11.75° track switching "bend" and remain centered.

I would love to make a train, if i can figure how to get it to sit on two bogies that maintain track contact.

Turning raycasting off on a track part will prevent it from affecting the train.
Ohhh nice!

Another question tho... did anyone make other rolling stocks for the current version of the mod that are more train like? I assume linking carts is not possible, or preventing them to stop when players are in the way? (i might be able to script this i suppose)

Also chris, do you have any schematics for nice looking rail curves? i've slowly started experimenting on curved track shapes but i'm  still trying to learn how to place the turn elements.

You mentioned earlier to build prefabs for rail sections... it's prolly not the right place to ask (noob here) but how do you make a prefab?

I know that this topic is fairly old, but, has anyone figured out a way to get some form of track switch going on?
