Set in an ice-bound region of planet 4546B, after the events of the original game, Below Zero will offer a new chapter in the Subnautica universe. We would like to show you some of Below Zero's concepts, and share our plans for release.

About
Subnautica Below Zero is a separate expansion pack from the original survival horror game that's currently still in development. Below Zero will still have the same core mechanics that we've seen in the original game, however, Unknown Worlds is planning on expanding the original core mechanics with new ideas such as thermal mechanics. Just like the original game as well, Unknown Worlds is planning on releasing this game in early access with constant monthly updates being added to this expansion pack in the near future. Currently, Unknown Worlds have confirmed that early access for this expansion pack will be released as early as January 30th, 2019.

This updates includes the following things.
Quote
  • Ghost Leviathan: Frightening and deadly, a new Leviathan lurks deep under the surface. The Ghost Leviathan can be found haunting the Void, Grand Reef, and the Lost River. Always keep one eye on the open ocean in case one decides to pay you a visit.
  • Infection Cure: The Enzyme balls left by baby Emperors make it finally possible to cure yourself.
  • Deactivating the Array: Using the blood drawing terminal in the control room of the Quarantine Enforcement Platform allows the Precursor Array to be fully deactivated once you’ve successfully cured yourself.
  • Baby Emperors: These little creatures can be found on the other side of the teleporter. In time, they will grow into juveniles and spawn throughout the world. As previously mentioned, they leave behind Enzyme balls useful in healing.
  • PDA Improvements: More and more encylopedia entires have their final art images to accompany the vibrant descriptions of flora and fauna in Subnautica.
  • Drag & Drop: Rearrange your inventory with drag and drop - A simple, yet game-changing addition to your PDA organization.

  • Mesas & Lost River: The Lost River area gets another big update this time around with the addition of a connecting tunnel from the Mountains all the way down to the Lost River and Lava zones. Additionally, the Lost River area has been widened to allow a Cyclops to pass through with eerie, cavernous hallways.
Also introducing the Mesas, new grassy flats near the crash site, rising from the depths serving as home to many creatures.
  • Reaper Texture Updates: The Reaper is now sporting a shiny, new texture. But, we don't recommend getting close enough to see it.
  • Exiting the Lifepod: Two fancy new animations have been added for the very first moment you exit the Lifepod into the vast world of Subnautica, either through the top or bottom hatch.
  • Cyclops 4.0: The 4th Cyclops iteration is here. Now with: Immunity against medium sized creature attach (Lava Lizards, Bonesharks, Stalkers), 6 upgrade slots (up from 4) No cooldown on Silent Running or Shields, More powerful exterior lighting, Larva larvae displayed on damage hologram.
  • Power Transmitter: Since the dawn of time, simple grey polygons have represented power transmission. No longer! The humble Power Transmitter now has its very own model. Hooray!
  • Poop: The feature you have been waiting for. Sea Treaders now leave real poop trails behind them!
  • Containment Facility Changes
  • Crafting tree has been reworked
  • Ultra High Capacity Airtank added
  • Optimization

  • Emergency Shields: Install the Shield upgrade to add 15 seconds of protection from attacks. Keep in mind this feature has a serious energy cost.
  • Fire Suppression: Put out fires on the ship with the click of a button. A useful upgrade if exploring areas rich in aggressive creatures.
  • New Cyclops UI: Refreshed UI on all displays makes interacting with the Cyclops that much easier. This includes the Engine Room Health Display, the Vehicle Modification console, the Heads Up Display, and more.
  • Holographic Status: A new holographic status display of the Cyclops shows damaged areas and onboard fire locations. Useful to keep an eye on when under attack by aggressors.
  • Creature Detection: Keep an eye out for nearby creatures that might take an interest in your Cyclops by watching the new sonar projection on the HUD of the helm.
  • Decoys: Launch decoys to attract the attention of otherwise dangerous creatures. Additional decoys can be fabricated and there is an upgrade to increase the capacity from one to five. Decoys can also be used outside the Cyclops as well.
  • Creature Threats, Damage, and Wrecks: Navigate the waters carefully, some creatures will violently attack the Cyclops if drawing too much attention. These attacks can cause hull damage and fires. If hull strength reaches zero, the Cyclops will sink to the bottom of the sea.
  • Precursor Caves: Two new caves make an appearance in this update, within the Mushroom forest and the Crag Fields. All Precursor areas are part of a much larger story….
  • New In-Game UI: The most noticeable change in the latest update is the amazing new UI. Colorful and animated displays show important data useful for survival.
  • Resource Models, Eggs, and More Art Added: Materials such as Aluminum, Limestone, and more have final models. Additionally, several new eggs have been added or updated, alongside new inventory icons, and a Fade objects option!
