« on: August 14, 2023, 06:22:25 PM »yeah and it feels like nobody is tapping into the nostalgia for these. probably because they mostly sucked in hindsighti mean i couldn't really say they're gonna or could make a resurgance anytime soon beacuse as i said, these were very varying in quality, and people mostly remember those that would be considered the bad ones. but i still felt worth remembering myself of these for the friends i've made back then that i still talk to this day and for the "chaotic" fun i've had reading and making them, oh well.

you guys remember sprite webcomics? y'know, the ones where you took ripped graphics from games on a random website like the spriters resource and made comics with them in ms paint or photoshop? yeah! those!. i've been having my fair share of nostalgia for them over these couple of months, revisiting some oldies i used to read and some i made myself. these would vary a lot in terms of quality, you would either have something interesting or entertaining enough to keep you on your seat and keep reading, or you would have something poorly edited made by someone below 13 with "lawl so randum" humor and poor grammar, sometimes they would just use the sprites straight from the games, edit them, or they would just make entirely new stuff from scratch. but regardless of their overall quality there's some charm to be found on them these days, their simplicity, their humor, etc.
some examples i could give:
some of these would be hosted on their own websites, but a good majority of them were uploaded on other webcomic hosting sites, one of the most remarkable for me was smackjeeves.
this site was my stuff back then. sure, you could post your own drawn original works, but back then there was a big number of sprite comics hosted there before other different comics were trending there. some of my favourites there were the ones with a big number of co-authors, where all of their characters would participate in one big story on random places, sometimes it would be an hotel, sometimes it would be a blank void. most of there were a loving mess, but a lot of fun too. one of my small contributions to these comics gave me my own 15 minutes of fame where it became a re-occurring joke sometimes:
eventually the site would be bought by a korean corporation, get a horrible redesign as a webtoon/tapas clone, and get shut down shortly after just to promote their other webcomic hosting site. a good number of these are mostly lost to time due to this, which loving sucks.
nowadays these comics still exist, but you can rarely find them and they are not as active as they once were. it sucks because i've been thinking about making my own recently just for funsies, but as an adult i fear i have better things to do right now.

-beef (cow meat): best stuff, hands down. at best when it's juicy and between rare and medium, preferably like it cooked in the grill, but on the oven is great too.
-chorizo: depends on the type of chorizo but great stuff too, especially when you are making a choripan out of it.
-fish: haven't tried much of it, i have only limited myself to hake burgers. i have lost my taste for them over the years, but i'm still down to eat them at any time.
-pork: pretty good! i once mistook pork ribs for cow ones at a restaurant and i honestly liked them. also tried some of it at parties, mostly cold.
-chicken: eeeh, not into it. i eat neapolitan chicken milanese, but i only like it when it's thin enough, otherwise it just feels really gummy and kinda makes me wanna vomit.

maps and terrains looked pretty dated as everyone said, but i don't see how modter terrains (or just bricks in general) were much of an improvement considering how easy it is to get stuck on them with vehicles

this is all very impressive stuff and i gotta give huge props to the people behind this but sadly the game's perfomance is not very good, i think i'll wait a bit more time to fully enjoy it if they intend to release updates to fix it

in these trying times where everything here can end at any moment, let's just chat for a while until the inevitable sunset comes for us all.
this is sort of a spiritual successor to those day/night discussion topics and other similar ones that may have preceded them in the past, just chat about anything you want that wouldn't guarantee a new thread.
stuff to consider:
-try to keep stuffposting as low as you possibly can: we dont want to clutter up things up too much like previous times
-be chill, be cool, be groovy: don't be an ass/try to start up a fight for no reason
-idk really: just have fun!
