Haters gonna say it's fake

You could easily figure this out exactly if you created a vertical rig with severable triggerable zonebricks that tracks the timing of a falling player. In the game, acceleration is set at 9.8 m/s^2 in the source code (I remember a topic talking about this several years ago, so I'm guessing it's correct). I recommend using smaller zonebricks close together near the start of the fall to avoid significant drag effects.

By measuring the distance between the top of the highest zonebrick and the top of the lowest zonebrick (in brick_heights) and also by calculating the time it took to travel that distance, plug those values into one of the kinematic equations (Δd = (1/2)*a*Δt^2) to yield the acceleration in units of [brick_heights/s^2]. Divide 9.8 m/s^2 by this number to yield a meter-to-brick_heights ratio. To convert brick_heights to brick_widths, measure the height of the player model standing up using brick_heights, then lay down and measure the height of the player model using brick_widths.

Some more conversion and you get brick_widths to meters (or feet). This same zonebrick technique can be used for horizontal velocity.

Should it be alive? I'm now an unemployed graduate, so I guess I have the time.

My god, the fun that was had on that map.

If someone would link me to a .blend (or other format) file, I could modify it to be printable so yall can order one from, like, shapeways or print it for yourself.

p sure this is around the same size as yours yeah? i like the height of yours i think itd make a pretty good necklace piece at that size

i think the model might need work but overall im excited to get it printed

The final height, including the added wires, is 49mm. I scaled the stl I imported into my slicer, so I don't remember how tall the original height dimension was set to print at. My 0.2mm nozzle has been able to print as fine of detail as the feather, though it would be a good idea to separate it out from the rest of the model so it can print directly on the print bed to decrease the potential for failure. Would probably be a good idea in the long run so the separate accessories can be printed and mixed and matched and stuff.

I didn't print more attempts for this because school got busy. If I had time, I'd love to model up some facial features, at least. Maybe get a system going to allow free rotation of the arms.

this topic has inspired me to get my bl avatar 3rd printed in gold. thanks dude !!

Haha, nice dude. If you wanted to cut the expense down by several magnitudes, you can get one printed in plastic, then spray on this special nickel-based electroplating material that the internet sells, then electroplate using a gold solution. The small kits available are fairly cheap (idk if they include a gold solution).

Holy bumperoni Batman.

Since printing that first blockhead, I've gotten significantly better at fine tuning my printer and have been using a 0.2mm extruder nozzle (original blockhead printed with 0.4mm nozzle). I can see about implementing everyone's suggestions.

might need some sanding

That's an understatement. The non-cuboidal shape of everything doesn't make for nice prints.

So I bought a 3d printer recently, and ran out of things that I needed to print for personal and work-related projects, so I decided to print a blockhead model. I used electrical wiring to span the gaps. I heated the wire with a soldering iron to poke holes in the plastic, then shoddily hot-glued the wires in. The little guy stands about 2" high.

If I reprint it, I'll add in wire-mounting holes and make the shoulders move.

[edit]

Oh jeez, I'm so rusty at forum'ing that I put this topic in GD instead of gallery. oops
