The reason that V8 or any other older versions shouldn't be distributed is because of people managing to get offline mode without actually purchasing the game. That would mean less money for Badspot, which is a bad thing :(

It's not a copypasta, it's statistics citing a book of law written by the director of the Justice Research Association with a Ph.D in Sociology.
