Off Topic / Re: Most fun machine you've worked with?

i used to retrofit tool cabinets with electronic locks and LEDs to be controlled by a PC. it was pretty zen, just throw on some music, take a look at all the work orders and when they were scheduled to ship, then get to work. learned some pretty useful stuff doing that job, had to learn lots about drills because we had to drill tons of holes into steel. one of my favorite tools to use was the knockout punch, it was so satisfying to twist the handle til *pop*. the worst part was probably shoving LED PCBs into the plastic extrusions for the front panel, those starfishs never wanted to go in without a fight. my favorite part was probably doing all the wiring, me and my coworker basically had our own "signature" wiring arrangements. working in software is nice but it just lacks that nice, visceral feeling of getting something done with my hands. good times

i don't have much of an opinion on grinders but i will say that if what you're going for overall is better taste then making your own ground beef is for sure the way to go, it's definitely more time consuming and labor intensive with all of the experimentation but beyond just adding different seasonings you can also combine different cuts and/or breeds of beef to make better patties. my favorite burger place uses their own blend of steak to make a perfect burger that you can't buy anywhere else instead of just buying in generic ground beef made with who knows what

i've only ever managed to fully "join" three communities in my entire life, Blockland being #1, and the other two were not nearly to the same extent as this game.
at one point i was spending every single day of my life in this game and on these forums, 24 hours a day, talking with Blockland friends ingame or on MSN Messenger.
my life completely fell apart not long after finding this game, and being home schooled at the time, this was the only place i had to socialize and feel "at home".

so for years afterward, Blockland would be where i literally and metaphorically called home, and for that i will always feel some sense of belonging here- even though the community i knew has moved on and i don't really have a place anymore.
logging into the game and joining a server feels like driving back to the old neighborhood where you grew up and feeling a melancholic nostalgia seeing new and old faces, new and old houses, new and old roads, feeling like you've moved on physically but never really left mentally.

Off Topic / Re: Hot Take: Let's Players are Good Actually

John Wolfe and ManlyBadassHero, that's about it in terms of "Let's Players" in the traditional sense that i enjoy. when it comes to video game content in general, my faves are Call Me Kevin, OneyPlays (can you call them "let's plays" in a traditional sense?), Jerma, Skooch, ChillingSmite, ambiguousamphibian, Hugo One, Matthewmatosis, Joseph Anderson, EZScape, Nakey Jakey, Karl Jobst, Super Bunnyhop, and probably a couple others i'm forgetting at the moment.

my boyfriend and i just went back in May, he lived there for 5 years so we didn't have much trouble getting around which was nice. i'm not sure which part of NYC you're in but if you like ramen, Ippudo Westside on w51st is the best ramen i've ever had. the Nintendo store was a bit disappointing, but i'm not sure what i was expecting other than random franchise merch and some Switch games. they have all the Amiibos on display which is cool i guess, i think the only things i found truly interesting were the melted GameBoy that got bombed during the Gulf War and the glass case containing their entire history of mobile consoles. FAO Schwartz is definitely worth the visit just for the pure wonderment of it all, it's the only place i've ever been that i can unironically say felt "magical". there's a neat retro games store called J & L Game off 6th ave between 38th and 39th, i picked up a copy of Fighter Destiny 2, and Mario Party 3 in Japanese in the original box and plastic cover.

most often i'll find myself in a decent- or even great- mood, and then i'll put on songs that i know will make me upset and then i... get upset lol. i think it's because i've felt so awful for my entire life that putting myself back into an "easy" and familiar emotion is somehow comforting in a way. like it's safer to feel because i can understand it and there's no risk of losing it because i'm already at my worst
