Hey y'all, nearly lost this account.

Have a couple off-cuts from my notebooks:

more car design

Desk doodle

*muffled screaming*

And something a little more refined:

I have a ~2010 WD Blue 500GB laptop hard drive in my Linux desktop here. It takes about 15-20 seconds to boot to desktop. My Mac has a Kingston HyperX SSD (one of the ones people use for 4K+ cameras), and it takes about the same time. Boot speed has a lot more to do with OS and startup software load than the hard drive. Before buying an SSD, consider removing all your startup junk and clearing your desktop of files and shortcuts.

Happy birthday mate ;)

this thread got off the freakin' rails.

Everybody loses, the only winning move is not to play, GG, etc

you just compared preventative defense, to revenge vigilantism.
what a tool

you are allowed to prevent yourself from becoming a victim.
you are not allowed to commit additional crimes once one had just happened to you. that dosnt make it ok.

He caught the man in the act, and acted in defense of his son who could not possibly be expected to defend himself in the situation. He didn't hunt the man down after he found out afterwards, which would be vigilantism: he walked in on this assault happening. Calling the police or putting up a sign is not preventative defense, either, and was a metaphor for the bystander-ish attitude of saying that a man should not be responsible for the immediate safety of his children, whether or not it comes to physical violence, specifically because someone thinks it's wrong to inflict bodily harm.

Here's a link to the Florida statutes on "justifiable use of force". I don't agree that the law is the end-all and be-all, but by law this man was within his rights as a citizen of Florida.

An especially interesting section, under "Use or threatened use of force in defense of person."

Quote
(1) A person is justified in using or threatening to use force, except deadly force, against another when and to the extent that the person reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to defend himself or herself or another against the other’s imminent use of unlawful force. A person who uses or threatens to use force in accordance with this subsection does not have a duty to retreat before using or threatening to use such force.
(2) A person is justified in using or threatening to use deadly force if he or she reasonably believes that using or threatening to use such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony. A person who uses or threatens to use deadly force in accordance with this subsection does not have a duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground if the person using or threatening to use the deadly force is not engaged in a criminal activity and is in a place where he or she has a right to be.

I really don't think i need to explain the semicolon
You're ready for law school now!

The case was on the provision of contraceptives, though. Whether or not the ruling could lead to more homophobic rulings later is irrelevant to individual states' laws.

At the very least, distance is being made to counter the parts of Indiana's religious freedom laws that are exploitable like this.

a child enthusiast
but British

I feel sorry for the child enthusiast;
Two wrongs don't make a right.
First, what's up with the semicolon
Second, If you believe that defense and punishment before the police or government get involved is wrong, you might as well just put up a sign in front of your house saying "I have all this stuff and I won't do anything to protect it. I'll call the cops though". You'd be figuratively laughed out of the neighborhood if your response to a child being actively molested was to call the police.

I'm not looking for massive transfer rates, just an SSD that is cheap, reliable, and at least 200 GB.
My current main drive is a WD Green 250GB from 2010. It takes my computer about 3 minutes to start up and is the oldest and slowest thing in my computer.

There you go

14
Is a PNY SSD worth getting at all or should I avoid at all costs?
You should get Intel, Kingston, or Corsair instead. PNY might be okay, but these three are sort of the big guns for solid state.

How about we have an "Aspergers really isn't autism" day. Because that was a real bad decision on psychologists' part.
