it's amazing how people can look directly at "don't be an starfish" and their immediate knee-jerk response is being the exact type of starfish described

Wait, after reading up on the differences, isn't just being transgender (on a broad sense) just being a slightly against the norms person, yet having Gender Dysphoria is *really* being transgender (or wanting to be the opposite gender)?
i posted something about this in another thread - even the DSM-V kinda stopped giving a stuff about gender dysphoria because it's not really an illness, it's just like being uncomfortable with any other part of your personal identity

And also, if this is a real social issue, then is it a social movement (LGBT) or an actual movement to come to terms with mental disorders as saying they're totally okay (implying  that LGBT is generally a disorder group) and not harmful in any way? (not saying that they are disorders).
social movement - trans people will tell you it's not an illness, but many think it is which leads to violence and abuse, etc

I was diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria. I'm pretty sure it's a standard diagnosis when trying to determine if hormone therapy is necessary.
i mean, it has to be considered that this country is fairly garbage with diagnosing and treating people, so there's that

even the creators of the DSM-V are backing off lmao

“Illness” is sometimes used to describe conditions, such as schizophrenia which has a strong biological basis but is not at all confirmatory.
ICD-10 Chapter V
they use the word illness for a whole slew of things, that's not a compelling argument. it's interchangeable

Um...http://www.dsm5.org/documents/gender%20dysphoria%20fact%20sheet.pdf

not all trans individuals have gender dysphoria, note "This condition causes clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or
other important areas of functioning."

so far all i'm compelled to believe is that you also think people who want to change their legal names have a mental illness

they're synonyms
they're literally synonyms
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mental_disorder
"A mental disorder, also called a mental illness or psychiatric disorder"
this
i was hoping decimation would come to the conclusion on his own but this works

A mental disorder is a syndrome characterized by clinically significant disturbance in an individual's cognition, emotion regulation, or behavior that reflects a dysfunction in the psychological, biological, or developmental processes underlying mental functioning. Mental disorders are usually associated with significant distress in social, occupational, or other important activities. An expectable or culturally approved response to a common stressor or loss, such as the death of a loved one, is not a mental disorder. Socially deviant behavior (e.g., political, religious, or loveual) and conflicts that are primarily between the individual and society are not mental disorders unless the deviance or conflict results from a dysfunction in the individual, as described above.

you're objectively wrong

the only thing i don't like about trans is they most emphasize that they are trans. after you've 'converted' why don't you just keep living your life and stop complaining about the troubles of being trans? thats whats so annoying. if you don't want an argument to start, don't even mention being transgender. just say the gender you identify by, and don't make stuff happen
this argument works in theory, but in a practical sense its not that simple. peoples' old identities linger behind them, and OTHER people "make stuff happen." trans people are abused and harassed because of hostile people who believe they're sick or less than human.
basically, the reason that "brute-force awareness" is the current strategy is because "pretending that people are not-stuffty enough to accept trans people" isn't working.
