That was loads of fun even if I totally sucked.

I hope to see more of these.

are you really expecting this to be more than a one-off discord?

I'm not trying to be dismissive or rude, but the tagline for most discords nowadays seems to revolve around having a unique mixing pot of people, and this doesn't really seem much different.

Also, it'd probably help if you posted the rules of the discord in the OP, either to ward off stuffters or get a general idea of what people are going to expect the standard to be.

While I can probably understand why, (probably the flaming from phanto), but I'm just going to ask anyways.

Was it really necessary to lock the topic for this discord that only reached page 3 and then immediately make a new one?

I've had this trusty Emachine for over a decade.

Still works great!

Yeah!

I for one would love to be more machine than man.

In general, I don't fear technology at all, in fact, I endorse it entirely.

Maybe a little too much. I'm still not phased by the loss of jobs from automation, I think it's cool and efficient and sometimes necessary more than anything.

Maybe I'm wrong.

does it not anymore???

Yeah, it's been shapeless for a while now.

You can put your iron and flint wherever you damn well please.

Back when masterwork was for DF version 34.11, my favorite pasttime for my longest running fortress was designing my security in a way in that I didn't really need a militia (I had one for DEFCON 1 scenarios but I never really had to use it) and instead opted to outfit the entirety of the bridge leading to my fortress with at least 10 balrogs.

Yes, balrogs.

Ginormous forestfires and melted goblins abound.

I can't make any more balrog-infested superfortresses anymore though in the modern versions so in that regard I am a tad saddened, no more hilariously OP megabeasts to infinity.

I've heard masterwork is great, but some of the features seem odd, to say the least.

For example, it's cool that they have other playable races, but who tf wants to play as a kobold? No metal, no mining, etc.

The orcs and succubi seem cool, but I just can't wrap my head around some of the other features of the mod.

That's why I'm glad almost every single feature is toggleable. Technically, you could rig it to just play vanilla DF by turning everything off but then why even have it to begin with.

I do agree that it makes the game even more complicated than it already is but I'd say it's worth it in the end.

While it might not have the modding community of say, a Bethesda game, it is immensely fun modded, too.

Consider trying out the Masterwork DF modpack if you're looking for more out of the game, adds so much too it and it's compatible with a relatively modern version. Not exactly as stable, however.

There's also tilesets if ASCII really just burns your retinas.

I could talk about DF for a long long time, I have way too many stories to share so I'll just stick to the generic "it's a good game"

I played games like gears of war and halo: ce to name a few as a kid and instead of making me a psychotic murderer it actually helped improve my strategical thinking skills and my vocabulary.

Of course, learning every curse word before you leave first grade gives you a big bonus over everyone else.

A couple friends (from this very forum, no less) contributed small parts of every bit of my avatar, from the color, to the flag, to the small smoothing details, etc. Not a single part of it was made by my hand.

I don't know who made the original uncolored artwork but here it is, for reference:

Is this too much space? Nowhere near done but I need second opinions.
