What if Notch spent years adding tons and TONS of stuff?
Hundreds of blocks.
Hundreds of crafting recipes.
So many features that no one truly knows all of them. You can go to a server one
day and see people using dozens of things you've never seen in the game before. Then you can go to a different server the same day and see more dozens of things you've never seen before.
A day dream.
