I'm looking for a way to make a little bit of money, and I also want to coach myself on developing business skills. I have been thinking about opening up a tiny server hosting service (I just need ideas on what games I could do it on). I'm already thinking about opening one up on OpenTTD and Minecraft, I would do it here but we already have enough. I've also been thinking about opening up a VPN hosting service.

I really would appreciate ideas, and what do you think is easier and more affordable to start? A hosting service for game servers or a VPN hosting service? Thanks!

Off Topic / US Troops Could Potentially Stay in Afghanistan Until 2024
« on: November 19, 2013, 05:56:52 PM »
What?! I couldn't believe what I was hearing when I heard about this. It hasn't been approved yet, but it is taking Obama a relatively long amount of time to make a decision. It isn't that hard to decide on. Obama promised so many things, including healthcare reform which was a failure, the removal of all troops a few years ago which was done late and not completely done, and now it's going to be extended. I feel as if he is deliberately lying to his people. All politicians do this at once in their career though. Now less than 40 percent of Americans approve of Obama's work, crazy, huh?

What do you think would happen if we let our troops stay in Afghanistan for 10 more years?

In Paraguay in a small impoverished underdeveloped village, lives an orchestra which has members who are young children, teenagers, and young adults. Members of this orchestra mentor one another. For example, the more experienced an older teen gets in the orchestra; the more they teach and guide their younger peers through. It's beautiful. This orchestra was made by one generous man, in attempt to show these kids responsibility and life outside of the town's criminal violence with gang activity. All of the instruments are made out of recycled garbage, unimaginable, huh? Finally, they've become noticed and people have had the hearts to donate this orchestra real instruments. I saw a documentary about this on CBS's program -- "60 Minutes", and immediately I found it to be extremely heartwarming.

I recommend checking out the article: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthvideo/9742488/Landfill-Harmonic-Paraguay-recycled-orchestra-plays-instruments-made-out-of-rubbish.html

Suggestions & Requests / Iceberg's (A realistic idea)
« on: November 09, 2013, 07:46:14 PM »
Ok, so these are exactly like real life iceberg's out in the arctic - but without that many physics mechanisms. How this would work: place the iceberg brick somewhere, preferably in water and then when you jump on it with force it will break into half depending on how hard and where you jumped on it. It would also be slippery like ice.

Games / Lovely Planet - Unique, Abstract 1st Person Shooter
« on: November 05, 2013, 09:01:09 PM »
Lovely Planet is an indie game for the PC.

What is this?

Lovely Planet is an abstract 1st person shooter game, as mentioned in the title.

A brief idea of the game [Credit to http://www.quicktequila.com/lovelyplanet.html]:

Quote
With boots of speed on your feet, an infinite supply of bullets for your semi-automatic and the ability to jump over twice your own height, you're well equipped to go up against any enemy on your quest. The gameplay, should you choose to play a particular style, doesn't involve camping at cover spots and waiting for enemies to pop out. You'll find yourself trying to balance between jumping around dodging bullets and taking aim for a better shot at your enemies. Defeat the baddies and avoid the onslaught of bullets to get to the next stage - perhaps it's a kind of play not suited for a 3D First Person Shooter game, but Lovely Planet hopes to translate the old formula into a version of its own anyway.

Who made this game?

An indie game developer known by the name/nickname of "Vidhvat". He is the only person working on this at the moment.

What is the status of this game?

Lovely Planet is expected to release soon, for the PC and Mac platform - and Linux later on.

My thoughts, on this indie:

It's really going to be a one of a kind and adventurous game, for sure. It will be a bit short with only 5 levels (and probably more), but it has a lot to offer with it's minimalistic graphical style, and storyline. It has not been talked about yet on whether it will be free or not, but judging so far, I think it will be.

Help / How do I fix a broken image on my signature?
« on: November 03, 2013, 05:47:56 PM »
I'm trying to get it to work by re-entering the image link, but still nothing! It's showing up as a mini blue question mark. It was working before on my computer, and now on my iPad it's not showing up, could the image be broken, or is it just not working on my iPad?

At 2:00 AM tonight, which is basically early-Sunday morning you'll be able to get an extra hour of sleep!

Are you excited? I am!

Discuss what time-zone you are in (I'm in EST), and if you are not American -- then discuss if your country has an equivalent to our daylight savings!

MapGeo is a fun game, here is how to play:

You list a city, and the below poster lists the closest city to it.

Example:

Person #1: San Francisco

Person #2: Oakland

Let's start!

Toronto, Ontario, Canada!

Storms will make landfall on Britain's Southern Coastline, and then make its way up toward inner parts of England, and Wales. Wind gusts are expected to be 80mph+ (130km+). Airline delays and cancellations will be happening throughout most British airports -- namely Heathrow. Schools all across the country may not be open, power will be cut to a minimum, public services will be extremely limited, and most of the Kingdon will be under threat. Train departures will also be cut, if not eliminated throughout most of Britain during this. Oceanographers and forecasters say this will be one of the worst storms in British history.

Do you know anyone who is in the eye of the storm, or are you taking precautionary measures because of this?

Discuss!

Would this even be possible? I think it'd be really cool though, especially glaciers. With this, you'd also be able to configure the desired size of the mountains and glaciers, and you could also have the ability to modify the height of the mountains and glaciers.

What do you guys think?
