Open up the mission file, copy the terrain block, and pasted it in here.

question about commuting on simcity4

whats best to use for longest distance commute. freeway? monorail? train? subway?

also, i build my city in 6 sections of the region, and connect them.
light residential
heavy residential
commercial
clean industrial
dirty industrial
farms

and if course using one of the commuting ways, i connect all the city sections of the region, and they work together.
BUT!!!
does commute distance count only to end of city map? or do they count the distance through both city maps that are connected?

Monorail doesn't seem very effective, I usually just use a combination of avenues everywhere and bus stations, but then again, I don't play on the largest city size. I've had a bit of luck with those ferries you can drive onto.

If I need to, I use trains. Subways are expensive and I can drive trains around for fun.

I don't really know how commuting off map is calculated, if it all. You can test this by putting a house at the edge of a small city plot and then running a road all the way from the border of the small city to the opposite side of a neighboring large city plot with a bit of industrial. Some industry will develop even with no residential (robots I guess), so you'll have to flip back to the house and see if it has a long commute or no job icon, instead of relying on industrial development.

Insensitive responses to current events and crude jokes offend some people, evidently you fall into the category of some other group of some people that really don't care.

Last time I went there it was filled with videos of decapitations*, now that I check there isn't really anything that terrible.

I don't get why you died a little inside.

I figured it was probably the joke about the humane society, but your current post suggests that probably wasn't the case. Perhaps it was that someone would actually make a fur cat cap, or that there were only 52 google results, but whatever your point was, it was evidently entirely over my head. :(

*This is an exaggeration. It was actually filled with more insensitive responses and current events and crude jokes, but it might as well have been filled with instruction manuals to a 1960's telephone switchboard. The main point is that it was the only example of something tasteless I could think of in a few seconds.

If you're interested in dying a whole lot inside,

have fun. Oh, yes, and google asks if you're 18 for a reason, not just for giggles.

ill give 50 bucks to anyone that finds me a  REAL domestic cat hat i can buy from anywhere online.
and i mean like those raccoon boone hats; ears and tail on it.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Antique-Victorian-Geoferys-Cat-Fur-Hat_W0QQitemZ250249932132QQihZ015QQcategoryZ48864QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

No ears or tail though.

I suppose you could buy cat furs and make your own. No physics lab is complete without a real domestic cat skin, and they've got to come from somewhere... Where do you think cats that get taken to the humane society go after a few years? >:D

In all seriousness though, I don't think you'll find one. I looked through the 52 google results, and all I could find was that hat above and anime cosplay crap.

Mapping Help / Re: How do I start Map 2 Dif?
« on: August 26, 2008, 09:55:24 PM »
map2dif is an exporter. It doesn't have any interface at all. Basically, when you start it up, you're telling it to do the set of instructions you sent to it. Since you haven't given it any instructions, it just closes. There are two ways to get it to do what you want:

a. Get a program like Quark or Torque Constructor to do it for you. This is easy and highly recommended.
b. Use the command prompt. There are instructions on how to do this here.

As for installing map2dif, depending on what program you are using, it is different. Torque Constructor automatically sets it up for you. If you are using quark, follow this tutorial.

Tutorials for using both Torque Constructor and Quark can be found all over the Internet. I know Quark has video tutorials that cover everything from making a map to exporting it to loading it in Torque. I don't know about Torque Constructor, but it is easier to learn. It also handles 3d rendering a lot better than Quark. If you want complicated shapes like a sphere or torus, Quark is your best bet. Torque Constructor hates them. I use both, and frequently move interiors in progress back and forth between them to do different things.

Off Topic / Re: I have an awesome computer class :D
« on: August 26, 2008, 09:32:55 PM »
What kind of class is it?

Majoring in electrical engineering(I'll probably mix in some more computer specific classes once I have time). Second day and the work load is already :cookieMonster:. We pretty much have to learn how/why advanced circuits work, new computing methods, archaic methods, theory, information from other fields, etc. That's just for one class for this semester!

I like it though.

I'm majoring in architecture, so far all I've had to do are problems 1-21 and 31-39 out of a math text book (math course is basically the same thing I took my junior year of high school, so an easy A). I've spent 35 dollars on drafting supplies, and I'm probably going to have to buy another 80-120 worth of tools though. Also, looking at class syllabuses, the work load is going to explode within the next few weeks.

My math teacher put every homework assignment on the syllabus though, so I might just do them all this weekend.

By the end of the semester, in addition to finals, I have to draw a single family home and a pool cabana with a guest room. :(

He isn't a co-owner. That implies Microsoft is a partnership, it wouldn't be listed on any stock exchange. Microsoft is a corporation. Bill Gates and Paul Allen stopped owning Microsoft as soon as they started issuing stock in 1981.

The board of directors keeps electing Bill Gates to the position of chairman, so either the shareholders want to keep him in charge or he owns enough stock that he can appoint a board that will vote for him.

Your text file has the same name as your map?

Don't open the mission file, open the text file. You don't have a text file, so unzip bedroom.zip and see how it works.
