Games / Re: 5 dollars on steam account, waht to buy
« on: January 20, 2013, 01:38:48 AM »
Steam should really stop counting $4.99 as under 5 dollars.
In fact, let's ban anything that's over $3 from showing up in the under $5 section. We'll make several new sections. Everything that would have been in the under $5 but is now banned from it will now show up in a separate section called under $7. We'll also make a new section called under $3 that only sells things for 99 cents or less, and all Free-to-Play games will get their own section called "Games under $1" that also includes all DLC under 50 cents but no full games, which go under the "$3 Games" section.

My browser won't let me zoom in that far.
Turn down your resolution, bonus points for dropping into 8 color mode. Easy enough to do in XP, I think in Vista and later though the only way to get into 8 color mode is to crash your graphics driver horribly. It's been a long time since that's happened to me so I don't remember.

good wallpaper for any Americans out there...

How great is this country? No need to answer... THE GREATEST

I love your 640x480 wallpapers that would look terrible on a computer even in 1994.

Demo on a Comodore 64 with probably one of the weirdest visualizations/music players I've ever seen.

Playing music on an IBM 1401 mainframe. Interestingly, the IBM 1401 had no speakers, no sound card, and no physical way of actually playing music normally. What's happening is that in an era before the FCC had decent regulations on radio wave emissions, the IBM 1401 would emit fairly powerful radio signals and by running certain instructions on the processor you could basically use the processor as a transmitter and generate a modulated wave that would play music on a nearby radio tuned to the right frequency.

You can actually do the same thing with a Raspberry Pi today, except using a clock signal on one of the GPIO pins instead of the processor itself. It just spits out frequency modulated signals right on 100 MHz, so the Raspberry Pi will happily transmit right over commercial radio.

TRS-80 playing background music for Frogger. Not especially amazing either until you learn that the TRS 80 also had no way of playing music itself, and instead programs just had to dump square waves on the cassette port to generate tones and hope someone plugged some speakers in.

You should be able to do the same thing with your favorite TI graphing calculator on the IO port.

Default song on a tracker for the ZX Spectrum.

Barely. I heard it isn't that stable.
You heard so from a person who is wrong. It works just as well on Windows 7 and it does on Windows 8.

Here's the secret - there is no good reason for getting into a fight, ever, even I'd you think there is one. It's called assault, and you will get arrested for it. It looks like you've figured out that second part but not the first part.

I hope for your sake you are under 18.

Here's my professional legal advice as someone who has never been arrested: stop getting in fights.

You need to zone an absolute stuffload of commercial, hi-tech, and manufacturing once you get skyscrapers because even the high density manufacturing plants provide enough jobs for 1/5 of a skyscraper. Your mass transit may be running over capacity as well - once you go over 100% transit speed falls off rapidly. If you're at like 400% usage on a bus stop then people probably aren't getting where they need to go.

Why can't the anti gun crowd move to countries with tighter gun control?
Asking people who disagree with the status quo to leave the country is making an unreasonable demand of them, a form of censorship, and also doesn't make any sense in a historical context - the nation was founded on disagreements and if we all followed your suggestion there wouldn't be anybody left here.

Except in cases of some guy holding out in the building with an AK and several magazines. But that totally doesn't happen.
You're right, it doesn't happen. When someone's holding out with an AK in a building the police notably DON'T go in, even with assault weapons and body armor, because it's a stupid idea.

Anyone know where I could find a light switch, but instead of using a switch it uses some form of like, pad that I could touch to turn on and off a light?
The device you're looking for is called a capacitive touch switch or sensor if you're wondering what to search for.

Here is an example of one for sale:

You could also use a resistive touch sensor. There's actually a kit for making a controller out of pretty much anything called Makey Makey.
