Mapping Help / Re: Problem converting Lego ViceCity to work in Retail
« on: March 04, 2007, 10:43:20 AM »
I was thinking about it. I'll experiment with the textures to see how it turns out.

Edit2: For some reason whenever I put down a ghost brick, this happens:
Before

After

Does anyone know how I can fix this?
I am also having a problem getting the water to become transparent. I tried changing the setting in the missions file for surfaceOpacity to 0.5 and lower, but it still doesn't work. Is anyone else having this problem?

Oh okay. I'm still having some issues getting the map to work properly, but after I fix those problems I'll check for any floating buildings.

If you are talking about the buildings that were a couple inches above the terrain, I thought that was only in the beta. I don't remember seeing them in the final release.

Okay the files have been sent. Just send me the terrain file when you are done, and thanks for the help!

EDIT: Nevermind, I managed to fix it. I will just add a few more things to it and then I'm finished, so expect it soon. Thanks for trying to help though.

Hey [GSF]Ghost! Long time no see. Map isn't going so good I see... Ketch me on IMs, I'll take a look at it if you're still having trouble with it. It'll give me something to do :P

Let me know, contracts in the profile.
Hey! Ya, I'm having some trouble getting the map to work in retail; thanks for the help though. I'll send the map to both you and Deathwish.
Ok, send em to bigbadscum at hotmail dot com. I can't find the login page for my @zerves.com adress xD
Alright, I'm putting all of the files together now so I'll send it soon.

Don't worry I didn't forget about you lol. I'll most likely just send you the files tomorrow anyway (didn't have enough time to do it today) while I try to get the editor working.

Man, I forgot how uber this map is. Though now that retail is way more optimized, I'd rather see it built out of actual bricks and posted a save. :) Then we could blow the crap out of it with rockets. :D
It would be awesome if someone made it out of bricks, but I don't think anyone sane would attempt it lol, atleast not by themself.

That Should work with the Demo But Do not Install it over it, you need to Transfer files etc.
Thanks, I'll download it now and see if it works.

Retail doesn't have a terrain editor, you have to download Badspot's/Packer's and add it
Can't use it in Demo mode I believe.
Ya, you can't use the editor in Demo mode, which is going to make it much harder to map for retail (since I won't be able to buy it any time soon).

Sure, i'll help you :D
Thanks! I'll give you the map tomorrow.

I think Kaje is right, I need the terrain editor in retail to save the new texture paths.
Can someone help me with this? All I need is for someone to save the new texture paths to my "vice" terrain folder (which I just created to make it easier to transfer the terrain). If anyone wants to help, I'll send them the edited map so they can load it in retail.

then download packers map thing
What map thing? Did he find a way to make the editor work in Retail?

For some reason when I load my lego vicecity map in retail, the terrain appears light blue, instead of having the textures assigned to it. I copied the folder with my textures and the .ter file and put them in the right folders, so I don't know what could be causing this. This is what it looks like:

Does anyone know what could be causing this or how I can fix it? I have been having A LOT of problems getting this map to work, but this is the last thing I need to fix.
I am only using the demo of retail, so I don't have access to the terrain editor.

Yes, it's the third Titanic, but there is one major difference. I'll let you see that for yourself. I only have one screen so far, and here it is:

(note: I am building this based heavily on a generated lego model created by Titaniac)
It looks awesome so far; do you still want me to build the hull in QuArK?

Dont rule it out just yet, I made a topic  (well 2 topics) about this, and Badspot said that he might consider it, but first he wants to get retail out. He also said that all of the slots may have been promised to other companies. But, if this does come out for the 360, I would easily pay 1200 points for it (as long as I can make my own maps and upload them for others to play lol). Also, I have some ideas for a control scheme that would be perfect for the 360 controller:

Right Thumbstick = Move
Right Thumbstick(click) = Toggle 1st / 3rd person view
Left Thumbstick = Look
Left Thumbstick(click) = crouch
D Pad = NA (Reserved for Custom Quick Select Items) / When Temp. Brick is active, move brick with D Pad
A = Jump
A(Hold) = Jetpack
B = Sit
X = Free Hands / Cancel Temp. Brick
Y = Activate / Enter or Exit vehicle / Plant Brick
Start = Start Menu (use Thumbstick or Triggers to switch between the Start, Admin, Bricks, Weapons, Tools, Player Options, Controls, and Options menu)
Select = Score Board and Player Gamertag List
Right Trigger = Fire Temp. Brick/Weapon
Left Trigger = NA / Reverse when driving a vehicle / When Temp. Brick is active, the Left Trigger changes the D Pad from Horizontal movement to Verticle
Right Button = NA / When Temp. Brick is active, orientate brick counter-clockwise
Left Button = NA / When Temp. Brick is active, orientate brick clockwise
You forgot a ton of necessary buttons, like, move up/down. My configuration is better.  :cookieMonster:
lol, I included up a down, but you have to switch between horizontal and verticle movement with the left trigger with my configeration. Of course, better controls can be thought up.

Off Topic / Re: Wii vs Playstation 3
« on: November 12, 2006, 05:46:18 PM »
Just bought Gears of War; when I first started playing it, the graphics didn't suprise me too much, but now it is starting to looking AMAZING. I also played Motorstorm at Target, and it didn't inpress me at all. From far away it looked really good, but when I played it it just looked like a ps2 game. Mabye it was the T.V.s they had (it was a High-Def t.v. though), but the rock formations and the ground just didn't match at all. The only things that suprised me were the animations and the sun effect. I found another reason not to buy a PS3, but I do hope that games look better in the future for the console, then I will consider buying it.
