Off Topic / Building a PC, need tips and such

Made my decision now, I just need to save up for it, just check out what ReactorWorker posted:

$250 CPU/Motherboard combo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.253957
AMD has a nice lineup of affordable processors for the budget gamer. The motherboard is mini-ATX...something I normally don't recommend but it should work fine for your needs. Nice thing about AMD is that they reuse their CPU sockets a lot so you will likely be able to upgrade to a more powerful CPU in the future without changing out the motherboard.

$70 Memory - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227346
The chosen motherboard happens to use DDR3 memory which is nice. I decided to save you some money by going for the cheaper rating of RAM which won't have any noticeable impact on performance.

$40 Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119106
This is the same case I used for my first build. It is quite sturdy and has a reasonable amount of room on the inside. Fairly quiet and at a great price. Quality/price was it is a great choice.

$50 Powersupply - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703017
With all builds on a budget, at some point you will have to compromise; the power supply is not the place to do so. There are cheaper PSUs out there but few will have the same level of quality as the one I have chosen (for the given price). You risk your components and/or poor performance if you cheap out here.

$45 HDD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136113
Nothing special happening here. Cheapest option in capacity range, quality brand, good history.

$28 CD/DVD Drive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151187
Same as the hard drive really.

$115 GPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150337
Great choice for a GPU and fits well within your budget. There are cheaper brands of this particular model but they don't come with the same lifetime warranty for parts and service. You are, of course, welcome to choose a cheaper brand, there is little tangible difference in quality.

Total = $598 (before any applicable taxes and shipping)

I didn't forget the monitor, but decided to separate it from the rest of the budget. If necessary you could buy it later when you have more money.

Off Topic / The hell is up with this stupid anti-virus ad?
« on: August 15, 2009, 12:55:08 PM »
I'm looking around on these forums I go to an all of a sudden out of no where comes up a box saying I need to download this anti-virus program because I'm infected. So I close the box off and it changes the page to a fake page, and it shows "My Computer" in XP but I have Vista, and it says my computer is getting infected. I keep closing the ad and when I go back to the forums I go to it keeps popping up.

Is there anyway to make this annoying ad stop?

« on: August 06, 2009, 08:30:28 PM »
Okay I recently re-installed Blockland again because I had to get my laptop fixed and my ports are still forwarded, but when I check to see if I have my server control menu it isn't there, and I even have SA too.

What the hell is going on?

What does this mean? I'm trying to get a new password because I forgot my old one but I don't know how to answer this question because I don't know what it means.

Off Topic / I need help setting up my PC controller
« on: June 22, 2009, 09:46:43 PM »
Okay, I bought a PC controller for games like Team Fortress 2, Half Life 2, and Left 4 Dead. I didn't know how to set it up for HL2, but it worked with TF2 but one problem, I can't use the right stick to make it go up and the right stick is for aiming left and right and moving and I don't know how to set this up right. Instructions really didn't help at all.

Help?

Games / Steam connection/disconnection problems
« on: May 31, 2009, 05:48:36 PM »
What is happening is that when I'm trying to chat to someone it keeps disconnecting on me, and it keeps going back and keeps going back on and I don't know how to fix this. This hasn't happened before and I don't know why it's doing it now. Also before anyone asks if I was lagging or anything similar to it, I was not.

A child on Blockland, I may not have the IRC pictures but I remember how the story went.

I went to his server, to check out his "fallout3" I wanted to see if the builds we're good, if the builds we're bad. I went to see his Vault and he told me to leave.

"I was just checking" I told him.

And then a ban came.

I decided to have a talk to him and an apology since I like to explore and that I'm such a critic. His response was this

"but your a nub and u suck" As how the lines went how I can remember.

Then I gave him some curses, stuff and forget to be exact. And then the child said:

"who taught u those words ur mom im 17 and i don't curse like that"

That's when I lost it.

An internet tough as how I described him, the flame war went on and all of his insults we're the same, the insults went a long the lines of

"go get a life nerd"

And

"you have no friends"

It went on and on and I decided to end it, because he was such a brat. He still filled my chat box with insults and I kept repeating the special words of wisdom I told him and then he finally ragequitted

tl;dr
A flame war with a silly child.

Off Topic / Building a PC, need to decide on parts
« on: May 10, 2009, 10:01:45 PM »
To start off, I'm starting to save my money for all the parts I'm gonna buy. But the $50 question is which parts should I get? This is my first time after all, and I know a little bit about computers. So can you guys recommend parts that would be good for gaming?

Games / PC Braid Problems
« on: April 11, 2009, 02:16:40 PM »
So recently I bought Braid on Steam (Played the demo on Xbox) and I get a really bad slow frame rate on it. Its runnable but it's slow. I updated my drivers and it fixed it a bit but not enough though. Any solutions to fix my problems?
