i personally upgraded my computer last year (it was originally built in 2016) but i ended up replacing everything except power supply, ram, and a hard drive so at that point its kind of a ship of theseus issue. i also resold my old parts on ebay so i could get some money back on the whole thing

since you have an am4 motherboard you may be able to luck out and get a decent later gen ryzen without replacing the whole motherboard, however do note that you have to update the bios and check to make sure its compatible. i'd definitely upgrade the ram (8gb is rather low particularly for gaming nowadays, 16gb has become standard) and get an ssd for windows to sit on (its a night and day difference). the gtx 1050ti should still be decent at older titles but may be starting to show its age so it may be worth considering going straight for a 30 series rtx if possible particularly as they're in surplus right now

google news feed and various tech-specific websites nowadays, i used to be pretty active in tech-specific discord groups but i largely left or distanced myself from them over time because i got increasingly annoyed by the constant gatekeeping and whatnot and i realized i was spending way too much of my time arguing over dumb stuff lol.

last year i got a 3d printer (ender 3 to be specific). did some upgrades and it was a pretty fun rabbit hole to go down but unfortunately ive never been able to get the printer to work reliably. i might try fixing it up again at some point
in terms of computers which is more up my alley i have this ugly ass toilet seat lookin ibook g3 clamshell circa 1999 that was pretty fun to get working. it runs mac os 9 and i use it sometimes for old games n stuff

back when that post was made everyone thought rickroll and other bait and switch memes were the funniest stuff and otherwise the forum would have been spammed with them. i dont think its really an issue nowadays, if anything stuff like this is a bit nostalgic
