Off Topic / 20 Years Old and Blockland as my success in life.
« on: February 22, 2012, 08:02:29 AM »
I just turned 20 Years old, been here since I was 13, can you believe that... actually old cigarettes could.

Since its my 20th I'd like to give a shout out to Blockland itself being the one thing that drove me to where I am now. With out it I wouldn't of believed that game development was possible, creating 3D art and enjoying life in general. I am currently writing up a several page story on my Blockland Journey but for now this'll do.

Started playing Blockland back in 2005, by the end of that year I started messing with Milkshape 3D which then over time developed in to rubbish "Mods" for v0002, after that picked up a copy of Torque Game Engine and started messing with it, couple years on I did a Cert II course which taught me the basics of 3DS Max, continued to mess with that, 2 years ago started a Cert IV, last year continued that into an Adv. Diploma of Game Art Development and now.... I'm currently starting an Indie Company.

All thanks to lil old Blockland.

When I look back in the early days I was actually going through some really bad depression but I always had something to fall back to that really helped me, even though I struggled with simple things like Grammar and simple language skills.

Side note, when I get a chance I'll be doing some 3DS Max Blockland related tutorials as Manty showed me that someone had developed v24 DTS for 3ds max's latest versions.

Edit:

Playing as a Zombie Stunt Man Extra in a local film called "Theater of the Dead".

Forgot to mention, I'm going to America in about a weeks time! I'll be attending the Game Developers Conference through my scholarship with my school (AIE). So I'll be in Sans Fransisco, I won't mind meeting anyone if they're attending GDC (Highly unlikely) but I will be cursing around SF. Quick mention about AIE, they're the school I've been getting all my game development education from and they're finally setting up shop in the USA... I highly recommend them mainly due to the fact I now teach part time with them.

Off Topic / Australia Censored L4D2, America Censors the Internet
« on: January 24, 2012, 01:24:09 AM »
I stop paying attention to whats happening in American for a couple of months and BAM again American is sharing its own internal problems with the rest of the world. When L4D2 came out in Australia Censored I was seeing all this bs coming from Americans such as "Whoa Australia censors everything!", this is literally the only real instance where they've actually censored something in Australia... So now its payback for all the bs Australia coped now putting up with the US government trying to censor the entire internet. I'm glad I choose web hosting in Australia then to put up with the potential crap I'd endure if SOPA was to pass, common USA pull your head out of your ass and get with the times.

If you can't tell, I'm directing at the people who run the show, not the people in general. And I'm back from not posting for months.

Off Topic / Evangelion 3.0: Quickening
« on: August 31, 2011, 04:39:39 AM »
Alright so I'm a big Evangelion fan, first watched it back when it first was out on TV in Australia when I was really young. Ever since I've loved it to death, then in 2007 Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0 came out, my pants just exploded due to excitement of the recreation of the TV show in its "True form". Then later Evangelion 2.9 came out part 2, this was so incredible, the music the visuals in 1080p blew me away. Evangelion 2.0 was released back in 2009 and I've been eagerly been waiting for 3.0 since, so far the only thing that had been released of 3.0 was the trailer at the end of 2.0 (Except that was developed during 2.0 meaning its really isn't apart of 3.0).

But a few days ago... this was released...

Pants, exploded.

Here's the Eva 3.0 trailer at the end of 2.0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACss_6tzN7g

Basically this means there's been progress, and enough progress to create a small teaser trailer. Since 2009 we've been in the dark of 3.0 but this confirms a release in 2012. loving hurry up and end 2011! I know people don't like Evangelion or care for it, but to me its my bible... its what made me, me.

My friends and fellow students at the Game Development and film school I go to have just put their short film in a competition, watch it on the link below.

They're currently coming second, I got to do a little bit of proof watching and input but to me I still see all the little mistakes. I hope they win.

You are a bitch, do you think I did not know that? The Headmaster told me, documents are rarely used unless making a story line. You obviously do not know stuff about game design.
Your head master is a moron, documentation is key to a successful game, if you have no back bone to a project you won't have anything to fall back on to and you won't make good or fast progress due to no per-organized documentation. Story's are a "on the side" part of a game, sure games use them in the main aspects of games but the key mechanics are the game play and most games with stuff undesigned gameplay tend to fall on their ass.

Ok sure he does. Because he totally is going to an institute for it. I can make more then just sketches, why else would I go to basically college for this?
Actually I am, I also teach at this institute during school breaks. The school I go to specializes in game design and creation of 3D content/programming etc which would fair surpass most schools.

And again overall you'll never make some elaborate game, you'll be doing stuff basic games like the rest of us.

Info
Doing video tutorials on Torque Constructor, I haven't really got much planned thus far but I am going to do an overview of setting up TC and exporting a basic level to Blockland. I'm taking suggestions on what people want to learn in Torque Constructor.

Question: Why are we using TC 1.0.51 and not 1.0.6?
Answer: Because I SAID SO. Actually its because there's 1 major glitch with 1.0.6, the grid system is broken. I'll explain this in detail on my set up video but what happens is in 1.0.51 when you move a vertex thats off the grid it'll snap back onto the grid but if you use 1.0.6 the vertex will snap onto its own imaginary grid causing brushes not to line up meaning levels have holes and cause many errors and issues with collision etc.

Off Topic / I'm an Attention Whore
« on: July 03, 2011, 10:02:07 AM »
Hi, but really. Post your attention whore moments or plots.

Recently I've been working on getting my Art to my school Marketing guy, so far 50% of the stuff he shows off is mine and soon to be 75% once I get my work time-lapse done. I also like to rub it in my friends faces at school, they don't appreciate it.
