It's just funny to see that Sirrus, a normal member, Is beating a mod in topic started.

People with high post counts/thread counts are stuff-posters. The only reason Badspot and I have high post counts is because of all the threads that get auto-created when we move topics. I've been here for just over 5 years and have roughly 9k posts - there are some people who have been here for a year and have triple that. It's quality, not quantity.

Progress Update
I've finished implementing the mock-up so that's working great now along with all the nice usability stuff. One thing I overlooked was the ability to actually create rooms so I'll need to go back and make a few extra changes to the server. After that, the last thing to do is the chat interface mock-up and code implementation.

I've been giving more thought to player-owned rooms and the volume of them and I think initially I'm going to allow anyone to create them, however rooms will be "destroyed" when the creator leaves them and everyone will get kicked out. This should keep the number of rooms down while also giving people the freedom to create them. For other usage cases such as clan rooms, there's a "persistent" flag for rooms which can be set by RTB Staff which means the room will exist permanently. I'll re-visit this after release and see how it works out.

Not in Ireland.

In fact, none of those are valid reasons to get in trouble for, apart from the car tax issue. The issue was dealt with wrongly however.

Getting in trouble for those things is just completely loving unheard of in 99% of ireland.

EDIT: Oh great. The little loving richardhead has parked right outside my gate where it says 'STRICTLY NO PARKING'.
If he's not gone by the time I wake up tomorrow, I'm taking pictures so I can give them to my parents and they can use them for making him lose his job.

Ignorance of the law is not a defence - you're just being a hot-headed teenager as usual. Grrr I'm right and forget the police!

  • Another bought some drink for his 17 year old son for a party he was going to, and then got fined €350 for buying alcohol for minors. We're all really puzzled on how he found out that. Just to let you know, every single good parent I know has done this for their son or daughter before.
Everyone knows this is illegal. You cannot buy alcohol for minors even if everyone else does it. It's the law.

  • Another got arrested for not having his car tax. With the old police, they'd simply take his car off him and scrap it. Not arrest him.
I doubt this was the case - he probably didn't have any insurance either - and that is an arrestable offense.

  • My uncle had his pub open until 3am, like he does every loving weekend, and has been done in that pub for at least 50 years now, and now there's some sort of fine for selling alcohol past 11pm.
http://www.thesite.org/drinkanddrugs/drinking/responsibledrinking/drinkingandthelaw - Who would have thought the police have a better understanding of pub licensing laws than you or your uncle!

  • Myself and a few friends for 'throwing snowballs at private residence'. I told him to "Sir, would you please politely f-go away? There is no law against throwing frozen water at windows of houses."
That's called anti social behavior/vandalism. Yes, it is illegal. Read up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-social_behaviour#Anti-social_behaviour_in_UK_law

The new mock-up looks more appealing to the eye than the old one. Nice job Ephi.

Here's the first mock-up I've put together

No permanent snow in London, but bone chilling cold and painfully cold winds. But yesterday it was snowing for a while.

Lots of permanent snow around my office in the east end, but yeah - very cold wind. Half the department didn't even make it in because the DLR's just been part-suspended and everywhere else has heavy delays.

I'll take a screenshot of all the configurable options once the chat part is done, since that'll add a few to the options tab too.

Here's the first mock-up I've put together of the chat tab:

I've just re-used existing elements so that's why the boxes look a bit stretched at the edges - I'll re-do all that when I come to a final design but this is roughly what I think it'll look like. Might play with the shades since I think the dark black + gray is a bit overwhelming.

i may probably go to a video game development college

Game development courses are a waste of time and restrict your career - especially if you can't get into a games company. What's your fallback plan? If you actually have a useful degree like computer science then you can fall back into software development if games don't work out. Choosing super specific courses like that isn't going to help you.

I remember a bunch of kids at my school wanting to go do "games development at that awesome university in Aberdeen!!1" and by the time they got around to filling out their UCAS aged 17-18, none of them applied for Aberdeen.

Aww... you know what, you're right, play testing is just so loving far-fetched it's crazy!

I don't know why you'd aim so low for a career. Kids have absolutely romanticized the job - "Wow I get paid to sit around and play games all day with an unlimited supply of mountain dew lol" - but the reality is it's just grunt work. The pay's crap, the work is monotonous and everyone wants to do it because they think it's awesome.

Progress Update
Finished up the server changes for chat rooms and also a bit of client code to request the list and store/manage it. Next is just the interface and logistics which is usually the long part. That'll form the final alpha update and we'll then roll into beta once any issues are raised. The beta team will consist of the 25 alpha testers + 50 people who click the link first.

I've been thinking about how things are going to work for the Save Repository for v5, specifically the storage aspect of things. My current host doesn't have a huge amount of disk space so I'm probably going to look at using Amazon S3 to host everything. Although given the cost implications of that, there are going to be limits in terms of how many revisions of saves you'll be able to keep and so on - but not limits that hinder day-to-day usage.

Add-Ons / Re: AutoBridge V1.2

I don't care who gave permission or didn't. This is not a requirement for an add-on to be submitted to this forum.

This was supposed to stay private; You idiotic piece of stuff.

You cannot have truly private add-ons in this community and you're an idiot if you think otherwise. That also counts as flaming.

It's almost like you read the plans I'd written in the RTB Dev topic for this and then created your post. This is pretty much what v5 is about.
