Drama / Re: BC Development
« on: August 30, 2010, 04:06:24 PM »
This topic started off as drama and was filled with drama before I moved, posted in it or even saw it. I moved it accordingly. If you had read the thread I pointed you to (I know you still haven't - I'll assume out of sheer ignorance) you'd know this is not even a "threat" to RTB and therefore there is no conflict of interest. As for where I can argue - I will argue wherever I please.

If you have a problem with me moving this, please send Badspot a private message. I'm sure he'll deal with this abuse of power appropriately.

Edit: Kalphiter is also notorious for trying to change the course of history by editing all his posts and claiming he "never said that" so the drama forum prevents him from doing just that.

I like the idea of having choice. If Ephi is so sure BC will turn out to be rubbish and of no competition, I don't see why hes been regularly contributing to 93 pages of drama.

Read this: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=118625.msg2480097#msg2480097

If you still don't understand, then you're either very stupid or almost as ignorant as Kalphiter.

TLDR: "Hey add me to your friends list" - "Cant, i'm using BC loel"

Are you able to first block someone and then remove him form the list so he/she's permablocked? (Possibility to add  the person later if wanting to remove the block) It would look pretty bad if a guy had more than 200 persons blocked and therefor they take up more than 80% of all contacts he/she added.

At this stage, no. I may implement it further down the line.

Says you.

Interestingly your pledge to be nice has seemingly turned you into even more of a douchebag. Nice job I guess - didn't see that one coming.

Here's an adjusted version. I've allowed hats to overflow out of the container:

I was actually thinking that a white gradient overlayed on the bottom ~10px of the avatar would look good (so it looks like it fades in).

And Ephi I'm assuming that's a model view there, ala the player menu?

I've added a gradient now - it looks a little better. Big hats are still going to go off the top of the screen though - not much to be done about that. And yeah, it uses the GuiObjectView.

@Everyone else: I did say it was still being worked on. I've still got a bunch of things to fiddle around with, and there will be a status bar under the ID. Suggestions are still good though, keep them coming.

Here's a sample of the revised interface I've been working on. Any comments/feedback would be good.

I found this out by myself without the help of any of you bastards.
Thank you so much!

Everyone remember/quote this next time he asks for help.

I assume he means writing http://rtb-id but this wouldn't actually work because of the way the chat parses urls (it only looks for valid ones). I will work something in at some point to allow you to link to files.

It depends if I want to try and put together the new interface now or wait until a later beta. I feel it will address a few usability issues that Wedge and Kaje brought up when they did some live testing with me, but the change can probably wait until another beta iteration.

I've put together a list of about 20 people who will be invited to the v4 beta, so that leaves 80 places for other people to apply when the beta opens. This list mainly consists of people who have positively contributed in this development thread (asking when it's done does not count as a contribution). Those invites will be going out before everyone else is allowed to reply because I need them to test the application system too. :cookieMonster:

Modification Help / Re: Filewriting loopcheck and rewrite
« on: August 27, 2010, 01:57:50 AM »
I think you can use this
Code: [Select]
function whatever(%input) //Input is the name of your variable you want changed
{
//fileobjectcreated
//fileobjectopenforwrite
//tolazytodoit
while(!%file.isEOF())
{
%line = %file.readLine();
if(getSubStr(%line,0,1) $= "$")
if(getSubStr(getWord(%line,0),0,strLen(getWord(%line,0))/2) $= strLen(%input)/2)
{
%file.writeLine(%changevariabletowhatever);
break;
}
}
}

I haven't tested it, but i hope the theory of this can help you, or if someone actually knows how to do it a more efficient way, correct me.

That is entirely wrong and will not work, don't bother posting if you don't know how to do something - it'll just confuse people trying to learn.

EDIT : And now that i study the script more closely, wouldn't that make an infinite loop that crashes you? Because i see no incrementing command.

::readLine() moves the file pointer of the file object, and ::isEOF() checks whether the pointer has reached the end of the file.

Regardless, you shouldn't be re-writing an entirely new file each time someone makes a change in this database - file handling is a lot of overhead. You should be keeping most/all of the db in memory and saving it to a flatfile db at intervals.

What if someone actually has a lot of friends and just got RTB4?

Don't worry, it's very easy to tell legitimate usage from abusive usage.

So, from what I'm understanding here.

Beta is almost ready except for a couple interface decisions and minor bug fixes?

Basically. The basic functionality works and that's what needs testing.

No, but if people start adding huge ranges of IDs I'm just going to ban them.

It'd be nice if you could add peoples ID's off of your trust list too.

This is a nice idea. I'm planning to make a trust list manager at some point (currently you can't remove someone from your trust list unless you're in the server with them) so this could fit into that.
