Help / Re: blockland on Wi-Fi
« on: April 08, 2010, 11:31:43 AM »
I have a Wireless router and it lets me use blockland fine but when i quit out of a sever i have to close blockland to rejoin

Why do you have to close blockland to rejoin? Do you have obsessive compulsive disorder? Explain the problem.

Wi-fi is unreliable in the first place, and all gaming is enhanced if you use a physical connection. Most wi-fi routers will have at least one physical internet port on the back for you to use.

First, I need you to check to see whether or not it is wi-fi's fault. Connect your computer directly to the router through a physical port, then try to re-create the scenario.

I've been using Wi-fi for gaming for as long as I can remember. It's never let me down.

I'd like to try and get some more opinions out of this thread before it descends into yet another religious debate.

Any add-on that relies solely on the integrity of player-run servers is not going to work out very well.

Oops. I kind of presented it slightly biased. The upside to dell is that they're established and pretty trustworthy and I know that all the parts will be correct and will work with the components I selected. Especially fans/power stuff.

This is a really annoying decision to make. I get cooler accessories and what appears to be a nicer LG monitor if I go with this custom company, plus they offer free pick-up warranty to fix anything that goes wrong. Plus it's cheaper, too. They have all these awards and certifications from Intel etc. so they seem like a reputable company.

Or I can pick Dell which is er ... a Dell and it costs about £200 more, takes longer to deliver and has not-as-good warranty terms and a disgustingly tacky case.

Those are usually errors with the IRC network, not RTB.

I'd like to know WHY he's doing this.

Oh don't even ask. We'll end up with some lame sob story about how the girl he thought was his girlfriend actually hated his guts and his dog died and someone hacked his website and he realised how sub-standard his add-ons were.

A permanent ban is winging its way towards him, don't worry. We've waited for this for a long time, and today is finally the day.

He's finally broken enough rules and made enough of a fuss to warrant a permanent ban. Lets sit back and watch the show.

So is the nVidia GTX480 better than the ATI HD5870 or is the HD5870 still my best bet here?

Here's the new specification with a better PSU: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/925054/quote2.htm

For the content downloading, say you download Weapon_BigAssGun add-on through the content downloading through RTB, does it show up in your add-ons list?

No. The files you download from RTB as you join a server are content-only cached images of add-ons. They only contain the files required to use the add-on on another server (textures/sounds/shapes/icons etc) and none of the scripts. There will be a new list which shows all the content you have downloaded and you can then choose to download the full add-on for any of those.

Everything in that alienware PC is taken care of.  The CPU comes with it's own heatsink, and alienware will have already installed that, since that's part of the "prebuilt".  All fans are already in the case, everything is done for you, you don't have to worry about it.

I'm sure this comes with a heatsink too. They even said they'd add as many fans as was necessary.

Also what's the difference between the i7 920 and the 930?

In the current version, you go to the server info, download all add-ons that you can download for that server, but when you join, you still have to download the map. If I go and check the DLM for the map, it do exist. This happens on any server I don't have the map for.

Yes. I'm talking about RTB 3.4 - that's the new one.

It is worrisome that the "PCspecialist" would make such a glaring mistake as that of the power supply.

They had this guide here: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/pc-help/#19

I doubt it's totally wrong or they'd get a lot more complaints.
