Help / Note to Vista Users
« on: November 15, 2008, 04:10:31 PM »
You should have your "Blockland" folder anywhere but your Program Files folder. I would suggest putting it straight into C:\.

Vista uses a system whereby files written into the Program Files directory are actually stored in a "Virtual Store" which is found at "C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files" which causes problems since all the prefs for Blockland are saved there, along with all the add-ons RTB downloads. So when you want to remove add-ons everything gets a little complicated.

Secondly, Vista seems to be doing strange things with zips where the zip becomes read only. This causes people using RTB to be unable to update their RTB or update the add-ons they've previously downloaded. In the next RTB I will be making it give you errors if you are one of these people.

So in conclusion, move your Blockland folder to C:\ (this is where the Blockland Installer will put Blockland by default had you not updated from v8).

General Discussion / Re: what happens when the clock reches 99:99

I actually made a mistake, the clock only goes up to 99:59 so everyone who said they knows what happens when it reaches 99:99 is infact lying (including the Infomaniac).

Add-Ons / Re: Return to Blockland

The IRC doesn't automatically log on any more and my username stays as Blockhead130. Is this related to the website issue?

CentralChat has boned us again by removing their MOTD - the RTB irc relied on receiving that to know it was connected successfully so it could then assign you a new nickname and drop you into a default channel. I've made it unreliant on motds in the next version.

superfast edit: i just checked the TBM forums, THEY RELEASED TBM2 :D

The irony is they've stolen RTB models despite us telling them not to use them. Oh how the tables have turned...

On another note I've been working on new ways to manage your add-ons and upload them. I've just completed the new uploader with a custom-built flash based screenshot uploading tool. Here's a screenshot:

You go through 5 stages of upload as seen at the top, so hopefully this will lower the number of people submitting files to the wrong places and all that jazz. Furthermore I designed the form so that it can keep your values if you make any errors so overall it'll be much easier to use. Next I'll be doing the editing and updating tools and then finally a panel to manage your add-ons to see how many people have downloaded them etc.

One of the IRCops got a report that the channel was causing clone attacks (where one user has about 100 copies of himself and floods channels) and came on and banned half our users. I had a chat to the IRCop and those users should now be unbanned.

Perhaps make it so people can allow others to search their ID's?

Nobody makes an effort to turn those sorts of things on, you'd be searching a list of about 20 people who've actually enabled it.

Woot 2nd post
Wow stuff, you're amazing!

-already ahead of me-
I don't know what this means.

Sounds great!
Here are a few suggestions;

Somehow integrate this with the RTB chat.
Perhaps another button on the RTB connect gui to access the chat.
Ability to buddy people from inside the chat.

Icons
Instead of the icons you have shown in the gui, maybe an Icon that you have selected
from the RTB Forums. For those unregistered they could have the original icon that is shown in
the current GUI.
Adding to the icons and private/public group chatting, the host's icon could be displayed to the left of the
server name.

Another status for chatting, and a way to view which friend is in what chat server.

Display the RTB logo somewhere on the GUI, it's too pretty to be left out.

This is all I can think of for now.
The RTB IRC may be less necessary with this system, since the server hosts its own lobby chat for people to join. Chats won't work using servers, there will just be rooms like IRC and users can be in many of them so displaying all the chats a user is in wouldn't be great. It'd be like showing what conversations all your friends on MSN are in.

Haha did you do that because of what i said in chat? :D
I have no idea what you said in the chat but we've been planning this feature since the start of RTB 2.0.

Is a search for ID system possible?
Like you want to know who has a certain ID, you can search and It'll show some information (name, ID, if they're online, etc.).
RTB does have a list of users and their IDs due to the nature of how the system works, however I won't be providing access to it because people may not necessarily want everyone knowing their history of usernames and all that jazz. If Badspot wants to provide a lookup thats fine, but I won't be doing it based on the data RTB collects.

You would have to use eval(); to evaluate whatever the command the user sent is, then assign it to a variable to send it back to them.
