Help / Re: Blockland Key help (For badspot read please damn it)
« on: December 21, 2013, 02:56:31 PM »
You don't have any control over keys. I'm waiting for badspot himself to specifically say otherwise.

He won't. He's made it clear it's your job to keep your key and email account in your possession and he's understandably unwilling to waste time handling each instance where someone's trying to provide proof of purchase.

You won't get a reply so get a new key while there's still a discount.

I don't use Steam.
Does that mean I lose my RTB account?

Nope, we'll keep all RTB accounts, you'll just have the chance to link your Steam account to it if you'd like to in the future.

Is there gonna be any beta?

Yeah, given the risk associated with rewriting basically everything we'll probably do some kind of beta.

Are you doing a rewrite of server preferences? Mine broke and I can't fix them.

Probably not, they work reasonably well already but we could give the interface a face lift. Your preferences will be broken because another add-on has broken them.

I will of course be changing the default overlay key combo (suggestions welcome) and I will sort out an optional alternative for the RTB notifications so they don't get covered up by Steam.

I'm sorry, but I am a bit confused. I looked up "dlc" and it said, "downloadable content."
I've heard dlc imply that you have to pay for it, in the past.
Am I going to have to pay for rtb?

No, it'll be a free DLC.

Oooh, sounds neat! Will friends, favorites, etc. be carried over in a transition?

Yeah absolutely. We won't be losing anything in the re-writing so there won't be an add-on purge or anything like that.

Is it foreseeable to let people send saves and the like over chat?

Yep that's definitely a possibility. The benefit of having chat/add-ons/saves all under one roof means they can all work together for the convenience of you guys.

General Discussion / The Future of RTB
« on: December 21, 2013, 02:17:35 PM »
So now that Blockland has been successfully launched on Steam it does have a couple of implications for RTB. The most obvious of those being that Steam offers some viable alternatives to RTB's chat and add-on hosting - that being Steam chat and Workshop.

I'll start by saying that RTB will continue development however following a brief discussion with Badspot we're going to be looking to develop RTB in an official capacity (meaning it's officially endorsed by Blockland and may even be offered as a DLC on the store page depending on how things play out). This does mean RTB will possibly be getting a name change or the "return to blockland" bit will just be dropped so we have a meaningless RTB acronym. More information on all of that later.

As for RTB's existing feature set - I think chat and add-on hosting can still offer things that Steam can't because it's such a purpose-built solution for Blockland's situation and that's just something Steam won't be able to compete with. It does however mean we could possibly do away with RTB logins and just use Steam accounts in the future which would be cool.

The road map for RTB is currently as follows:

  • New "official" save hosting/gallery system.
  • Re-writing of dedicated hosting.
  • Re-writing of chat.
  • Re-writing of add-on hosting.

Essentially it's a big old rewrite because a lot of the code currently in place is around 4-5 years old and it's starting to creak. We'll be discussing each of those rewrites as they occur because we'd also be looking to implement more relevant and useful functionality based on the however many years RTB's been around.

The new save hosting/gallery is what we've determined to offer the most immediate value to Blockland users so it's something we'll be prioritising. Read more about what we're doing with that here.

Anyway, that's pretty much all I've got to say but I'd like to hear feedback on what you guys think and also any ideas you've got for the future direction of RTB.

Just a reminder that anyone having problems should submit a ticket because we won't be giving support in this thread. As Rub said, we had to restart both our nodes to resolve an issue so if you're still having problems please raise a ticket or put a comment in any open ticket you've already got.

Thanks.

You're better off buying the game again off Steam (and I'd do it soon while it's still on sale). You're not getting your key back.

And DoS can also be an operating system. Although it is called Denial of Service. It can be Disk Operating System too! It's just pinging with a certain amount of data being sent through the pings.

DoS can also be Department of State!!!

And denial of service attacks are not "just pinging" fyi - you should read up yourself before spreading misinformation.

I haven't touched it in years now. It won't be finished, there's a new site being developed at the moment alongside the new gallery system.

General Discussion / Re: How long have you been playing?
« on: December 19, 2013, 03:11:23 PM »
this is actually time spent on RTB servers

thus, it doesn't count time not spent on rtb servers. possibly counts client sidedly? like the rtb client reports as well as the server module..?

2 months, 1 week and 2 days for me

Instead of trying to pretend like you know everything, you could just ask me instead.

No, it's not time spent on RTB servers. It's all the time spent ever having RTB installed with Blockland open.

Java's syntax is far, far, superior IMO. It actually makes sense instead of random %'s and other symbols like @ and $.

Please stop lol. Along with everyone else trying to compare a proprietary game engine scripting language to one of the most prevalent object-oriented languages in the world.

http://returntoblockland.com/playtime.php?id=38361
I doubt this is 100% correct, seeing as I've probably played ~2 hours a day for the past year.

365 * 2 = 730 hours which is 1 month. It's basically exactly what you've estimated it to be?

If you've had RTB running every time you've played BL then it's correct - the math isn't that complicated.
