He has the source code for the entire engine, which he modifies and compiles as necessary.

I think it's a "wtf?" b/c the code post had almost nothing to do with the discussion.  And, the
Code: [Select]
brackets should have been used.

If it automatically detects .cs files for execution, that would seem to defeat the purpose of .zips.

Yes, and for the animated ones like rainbow / undulo, etc., they require engine changes.

I'm curious about this as well, will .cs files in the Add-Ons directory still be detected for execution, or just .zips?

What about them?  V9 is .zip only.  Shut your pie hole.

Well, the Badspot already has the $20 bucks, so there's no incentive there, and the people who actually care enough to contribute are already doing it.

I'll be sure to port everything in the add-ons forums that is not already ported, should this occur.

And how will it stop the ice creamy add-ons? All that needs to be done is put them in a .zip, and odds are they'll be a tutorial on this on the forums soon, should this come to pass.

I'm anticipating a laziness factor here.

How's that relevant to the argument of .cs vs .zip; does RTB2 require that all add-ons be forced into .zips? The community has said that it already works, they just need to make changes when v9 comes out in order to retain compatability.

I'm pretty sure the release version will require .zips, since V9 requires zips.

True. It'll just mean you have to re-zip everything every 30 seconds when making mods. Not too much of a problem, it'll just be quite annoying after the first 200 times, that's the only thing. No more alt+s, now you'll have to actually open the folder and drag+drop... every... single... time. Gotta love pointless steps.

That's why you make a .zip template for your Add-Ons that you can use over and over.  It's really not that bad.  The benefits of this system FAR outweigh any costs.

NO...NO...NO.  Allowing the old-style, willy-nilly, throw-stuff-anywhere style of Add-Ons would TOTALLY defeat the purpose of .zips.  Requiring .zips might even prevent some older, stuffty Add-Ons from making it to V9.  In fact, I recommend that people NOT port stuffty Add-Ons to V9.

In addition, the use of RTB2 to manage, download, update, and rate Add-Ons will a HUGE benefit to the community.

Besides, it won't be THAT much work to convert, and it'll save you the trouble of other servers downloading stuff into Add-Ons/Add-Ons and base/base, etc.

I think this will work:

Code: [Select]
%clone.schedule(5 * 60000,0,"removeBody");

Well, just say milliseconds.  Ticks for things like triggers can be defined, say, to 100 milliseconds.
