I might be able to get a hold of him...

See!  The mere mention of donations and he comes running back. :cookieMonster:

But how in the world will any of us find him?!

I've been told he can be tracked down using the latest in modern donation techniques.

Kaje's vehicles are like Kirby.

Haha.  That's loving awesome.  You totally hit the nail on the head. :cookieMonster:

Welcome to my new signature.

Why doesn't the game save all the bricks if it knows they are there

Saving is done by your client, not your server.  The client can only save the bricks it knows about, and the server only tells the client about bricks that the client's player would have a chance of seeing.  This arrangement is necessary to make sure hosts can't stop clients from saving the bricks.

I wasn't going to list off sixty-five different colors though, so I just picked a few of the weird ones I remember that are least likely to be in a choice of sixty-four.

We do need the ability to choose larger sets of colors, but 128 or 256 would be plenty.

I've always wanted a blend of amaranthine and aubergine on my roof; it'd really bring out the windows.

You missed the entire point of what I said.  You can pick any of the 16.7 million colors you want.  You're just limited to a set of 64.

We are currently living with 6-bit (64 possible colors) due to datablock limitations.
Wouldn't 32-bit colors allow for better looking builds?

1. The 32-bit "color" to which you're referring is a lie.  What you're actually talking about is 24-bit "color" (8 bits each for red, green, and blue) and then an 8-bit transparency value.  This 24-bit color space most frequently in use is known as the sRGB (standard RGB) color space.

2. Blockland already supports 24-bit colors with transparency.  When you connect to a server, the RGBA values of the server's color set are transfered to your client.  Currently, you can select 64 colors from the available 16.7 million colors.  Each color is assigned an ID (0...n).

3. The 6 bits you're talking about actually refers to the network traffic required to tell a client what color a brick is (decimal-based ID to binary).  For example:

60 = 111100, 61 = 111101, 62 = 111110, 63 = 111111

"Bit" stands for "binary digit", and can have the value of 0 or 1.  Each of the binary values above contains 6 "bits", so the server must transmit anywhere from 1 to 6 bits per brick to each client.  Allowing 7 bits would provide us up to 128 distinct colors from the available 16.7 million.  As for transmitting the hex values as you suggested, look at the number of bits required to transmit just the letter "A":

A = 01000001

The real solution here is to convert the paint can to use raycasts instead of projectiles, which will eliminate one datablock per color.  Then, just allow us 128 or 256 colors (7 or 8 bits, respectively).  I believe Badspot has had some ideas on how to really revamp the paint system since before v9.  Maybe he'll finally get around to implementing them.

Allowing the full 16.7 million colors is not only a terrible idea, it's completely unnecessary.

GSF's boats are physics vehicles. The rowboat is a player-based vehicle, meaning that it will also show up in any playertype list.

GSF's vehicles are complete stuff, so you shouldn't need to worry about them taking up precious vehicle quota space as you shouldn't even install them.

The only way that I can think of to accomplish this, would be to not send brick ghost objects to clients.

This is ridiculous because then, not only can people not save the bricks, but they cannot see them, or know that they are there, which in turn completely throws off interpolation (hence the "bouncing" while you are standing on top of bricks you have not yet ghosted).

Even if you could disable it, it would be completely loving pointless.  When you host a server (non-dedicated), you are also client joining that server.  This means that you wouldn't even be able to see the bricks loaded on your own server.

What

But then again trader you want evryone banned.

You have chosen to build something in a multiplayer environment.  Just like people can copy LEGO build designs or buy special LEGO sets, people can save your builds.  It's a core feature of the game.  Not only will Badspot not help you prevent this, he will work to block any attempts to do so.

Suggestions & Requests / Re: SUGGESTION: Prints on 1x1 rounds?
« on: October 06, 2009, 11:52:02 AM »
Title explains it all.

I would like to have those, just for the decoration. I don't mind if it can't be possible.

It's possible, just very tricky.  Since the round parts are actually flat sections (quads), you'd have to apply the print to several of the sections, each with a different alignment (UV coords).

Interesting idea.  I'd be impressed if someone pulled it off.

Badspot should totally make requests like this a ban-able offense.

Yes, but they use the vehicle GUI and what ever the limit is you can't go over it..

or should I up the bot count even though it gives me a message about vehicles?

The new hard limit of 20 only applies to physics vehicles (planes, trains, and automobiles) not player-based vehicles (horses, zombies, cannons, boats).
