Modification Help / [UPDATE 0.3.0] Playable Instruments [BETA]
« on: July 16, 2015, 05:31:59 PM »
Playable Instruments

This is an add-on I've been working on off-and-on since May of 2014. I realized I had taken way too long to release this so I decided I would finally release a beta. It allows for playable instruments to be added to the server. The system is completely modular and each instrument can be enabled/disabled. This also means you can add your own instruments easily! It is completely server-sided (but I'd like to add a GUI).

No, this will not use ____ format; stop asking

I currently have these instrument models out of fifteen unique instruments:

• Accordion
• Acoustic Guitar
• Banjo
• Clarinet
• Drum Machine
• Drum Sticks
• Electrk Bass
• Electrk Guitar
• Flute
• Gameboy
• Harmonica
• Keytar
• Marching Marimba (with straps)
• Melodica
• Microphone
• Saxophone
• Sitar
• Stand-up Bass
• Annoying Orangeet
• Violin (needs fixing though)

There are more instrument models I'd like to have, though:

• Steelpan Drums (with straps)
• Trombone

If you are good at modeling and would be willing to model any of these, please PM me. I want them with grey hands (except for things like the accordion, which just needs the hug animation).

If you are good at making GUIs and would be willing to make one, please PM me.

General Discussion / Make people load sounds faster?
« on: June 17, 2015, 11:32:45 PM »
I'm working on an add-on with a LOT of sound files that's not quite ready for release yet. I'm trying to test it with people but it's hard since it takes them forever to spawn if they download sounds.

Is there a way to give people the sounds or something to make them load faster?

Games / Yooka-Laylee - Interviews!
« on: May 01, 2015, 02:26:40 PM »

Kickstarter

About

Yooka-Laylee is an all-new 3D platformer from the creative talent behind the Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country games.

Yooka and Laylee were created by the same character artist behind the rebooted Donkey Kong family and legendary N64 heroes Banjo and Kazooie.

Using an arsenal of special moves like Yooka’s tongue grapple and Laylee’s tactical sonar blast, players will explore – and expand – gorgeous 3D worlds drawn up by esteemed environment artist Steven Hurst (Banjo-Kazooie series, Viva Piñata) and through skill discover the plethora of delicious collectibles hidden within.

Features

Heroes Built for Fun: The new buddy-duo were dreamed up specifically for entertaining platforming gameplay and exceptional color coordination.

An Arsenal of Abilities: Sonar blasting, tongue whipping, sky soaring… a move roster built for platforming fun – and unlocked with added freedom. Additionally, there may or may not be a move involving a giant fart bubble.

A Dream Soundtrack: David Wise (Donkey Kong Country) and Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie) combine in what's sure to be a melodic masterpiece! Seriously, clean out your ears - they're in for a treat.

Collect-em-up 2.0: A roster of shiny collectibles with gameplay progression at their core (as well as other, more valuable materials). Every collectible type in the game will expand gameplay in a meaningful way. The man responsible for DK64's clusterforget of collectibles myriad of trinkets is involved, but they've had a stern word. The main collectible, Pagies, are used to unlock and expand new worlds in Yooka-Laylee.

Expandable Worlds: Experience more of the playgrounds you love by spending collectibles to expand your favourites into bigger, more challenging worlds.

A Cast to Last: A huge cast of memorable characters to meet (or beat) brought to life by the art and audio teams behind Banjo-Kazooie and destined to endure in future games as part of Playtonic Universe. Expect all manner of grunts, squeaks and squawks.

Introducing Play Tonics: Discover these unique gameplay modifiers and use them to customise gameplay to suit your style. Will you run faster, hit harder or fly further? Also, are they named after the studio or vice versa? We'll never know.

Arcade machines: Each world hides at least one secret arcade game encasing old-school gaming goodness. Complete its retro-tastic challenge to claim your Pagie!

Explore and Expand

During their adventures Yooka and Laylee will complete challenges to unlock and collect Pagies. These golden collectibles are the main currency in the game, used not only to unlock new worlds but expand them too.

In the jungle world showcased in the Kickstarter for example, new islands containing advanced features and challenges will become available once you've decided to hand your Pagies over to the world-building construction crew.

Don't give a monkey's? Spend your Pagies elsewhere. If you desire, world expansion can be ignored entirely and you can hop, skip and roll your way through the standard worlds towards the final boss lurking in his or her mighty keep. And once the pivotal villain is naught but ash on the pavement, you can still opt to explore the expanded worlds with your full moveset post-credits to hunt down those leftover Pagies.

Music

Yooka-Laylee will feature a truly mouth-watering (ear-leaking?) soundtrack created in collaboration by three of gaming’s greatest composers, the legendary David Wise (Donkey Kong Country, Diddy Kong Racing), equally esteemed Banjo-Kazooie composer Grant Kirkhope (Viva Piñata, GoldenEye 007) and Banjo and Conker sound effects supremo Steve Burke (Kameo: Elements of Power).

This is one musical performance you definitely won’t want to miss! Listen to this and tell me you're not excited.

Some folks and I made a "thread simulator" type video

It includes the vocal talent of me, Swholli, Mr.Noßody, Doughboy (with a voice changer), Maxx, Plastiware, IsjiX, and McJob(less).

It also features a Super Mario Bros. 2 theme remix by Plastiware using Blockland sounds.

Add-Ons / Set Spawn Tools v1.0.1
« on: April 12, 2015, 05:41:21 PM »
Set Spawn Tools (v1.0.1)

Allows you to change the spawning tools for the server. If this add-on already exists I'll cry

/setSpawnTool <slot> <item datablock name> (Super Admin only) to set a specific item slot
/getItemName (Admin and above only) gives you the item name of the tool you're holding

There are also RTB prefs or you can change them manually with $Pref::Server::SpawnTool[#]

This add-on also fixes various default item and weapon images with incorrect item fields.

Off Topic / Blockland is "Article of the Now" on Encyclopedia Dramatica

I can't link to the website since it's blacklisted, but Blockland is the featured article on ED.
It's quite outdated, though.

It'd be great to have an additional argument for setRendering, setColor, and disappear for bricks that would set how long the "fade" (as in, the fade from one color to another or from rendering to not rendering) lasts. 0 would be instantaneous.

Being able to change/disable the flash when bricks are planted would be nice too

Off Topic / So the last episode of the Colbert Report is airing tonight
« on: December 18, 2014, 06:18:03 PM »
The last episode of the Colbert Report will be airing tonight before Stephen takes over The Late Show, where he will not be doing his Colbert character.

I'm sad to see the show go, even if I haven't watched it in a few months. I used to watch it every day (well, Monday through Thursday) and now it'll be gone after nine years of running. I am happy for him, though; this is a huge step in his career.

I'm curious if they will kill off his character.

Will you guys be watching?

Add-Ons / Tumble on Impact
« on: August 12, 2014, 06:05:52 PM »
Tumble on Impact

A very simple add-on: instead of falling damage, you tumble. Doesn't work when impacting vehicles, though.

Can be disabled via RTB prefs or manually with $Pref::Server::TumbleImpactEnabled
Doesn't work if falling damage is disabled.
